Prana Yoga - My first hot yoga class in a studio - Yoga Near Me - Coral Gables, Florida

I decided to try out Prana Yoga due to their close proximity to my job and flexible schedule. I already have a go-to yoga spot but they have a very limited schedule so I wanted more options for class times. The 4:30 p.m. class seemed like a good fit. Prana Yoga offers 3 studios, with the back room being the nicest, and a wide variety of class levels and times. Metered parking is available right in front for .50 cents every 15 minutes. Free street parking is available about a block away. There are a plethora of teachers to choose from so your bound to find one that you like. Ian, Eric, and Silvia are all great! I did an Intermediate class with each of them and it was wonderful! They ask permission to help position you and exude open, accepting, and non judgmental vibes. The instruction was easy to follow and they also did most of the poses themselves. Ian ended the class with a relaxing aromatherapy, which I thoroughly enjoyed. There is only one teacher that I am not at all fond of, Ana. I like to look at the teacher in the pose to make sure I am following correctly. Ana does not actually do any poses herself, just instructs so I find myself looking at other participants for visual guidance. To add to that, I find her instruction difficult to follow. She makes frequent references in what I assume is Indian, but I don't have a clue what she is saying. I also really appreciate when the instructor helps position me correctly, but Ana does not. Instead she tries to instruct you into correct position, which doesn't help me because her instruction is hard to follow!! I just get an arrogant vibe from her, and I do not leave her class feeling relaxed or with good energy. Anyway, the studio plays music during the practice, and I prefer quiet, but not too big of a deal. I find the walk-in class to be overpriced at $20, but that seems to be the going rate at most studios. I managed to get a Groupon deal which is the only reason I considered Prana Yoga initially, and if you buy a bundle it's a better deal. I now purchased 20 classes for $200, which is very reasonable. I tried this place out with a Groupon. I'd never practiced Yoga before and I felt anxious about going but the reason I was going was to help with anxiety! After a month, I decided to purchase a full year. I like being at this place and l look forward to going. I started with basic classes and each instructor has their own style but all help you. They assist with finding the proper poses and encourage you to push harder. I've visited other studios during travel and none measure up to Prana. The other studios are somewhat cold and sterile. Prana is warm and inviting. As you approach the facility, incense permeates the air. When you step inside, the lights are low and candles flicker around you. They offer classes seven days a week! I have never been a yoga person. To be quite honest, I always thought that yoga was for hippies and wannabe hippies. I mistakenly thought that practicing yoga would be boring or not a "real" workout. However, recently I have gone in search of ways to reduce and manage my stress levels, starting first with meditation and eventually deciding that I needed to give yoga another try. I found a Groupon for Prana Yoga, conveniently within walking distance of my place, and was really excited by the amazing reviews and praise people had given it. I've been to Prana a couple times now, and am so glad that I chose this studio to begin delving into yoga. The people at the studio, both employees and students, are friendly and welcoming, and the studio itself is beautiful and comfortable. The schedule and description of classes online is comprehensive and very easy to navigate. The classes I've seen are an hour and a half. I first took Gentle Yoga because of a back injury. I was worried that it would either be not gentle enough for me to handle as a first-time, injured student, OR that it would be so gentle that I would regret taking a slow class. However, it was neither -- it was a perfect class that I look forward to taking even now that my back is recovered! The instructor, Ana, kept injuries in mind to suggest modifications but also kept a sense of humor throughout class. We did a lot of meditation, which I loved. I left feeling completely relaxed and rejuvenated. Most recently, I tried Basic Yoga. Again, I wasn't sure what to expect. I was hoping it wasn't one of those nightmare experiences where "basic" really means everyone's a pro and I would end up feeling silly. But it was great -- everyone was at their own level and that was perfectly fine. Jeanette, the instructor, was also cognizant of modifications that people needed. She also, like the other instructor, explained A LOT of what we were doing and WHY, which I loved. This class was a lot more movement than Gentle... i.e., it was hard! I was not always thinking very zen thoughts in my head during some of the more challenging poses! I loved the class, though, and felt like it was a great workout and an awesome mediation experience as well. I'm probably going to ask for Prana Yoga classes for my birthday, because after my Groupon expires, the classes are pretty expensive! But I really think they're worth it. read more

I signed up for restorative yoga. To be honest, I read the description and it said something along the lines of if you work a lot take this class. I work a lot and sit for a hefty amount of hours... So I signed up. I didn't know what to expect. When I arrived I parked on metered street parking, grabbed my mat and water bottle and made my way inside. I checked in with the front desk and she instructed me to fill out their new visitor form. I did so, and she proceeded to ask me to wait for her. I patiently waited and heard her instruct members to different areas of the studio. I quickly learned there were different classes going on at the same time. This studio has ample space and construction was present which means new improvements are on their way. Once she was done checking in different members, she instructed me to follow her. She took me out of the studio and around by the back patio. She told me to use the spiral stairs to go up and conversed about the restorative class being really great to release stress. It made me feel at ease about my choice. I walked in and another member was already set up so I asked her for her lead. She instructed me to leave my shoes outside. If you're here for the first time yelpers.... I repeat leave your shoes outside. So I proceeded to step up my station. Skip a few steps and Throughout the restorative class you do various poses that are prolonged. I believe they were about 10 minutes each. If you're looking for a meditation and relaxation class. I would recommend the restorative class. Don't come here to burn a sweat because that's not what happens here. Come here to de-stress. I left peaceful and relaxed. Prana Yoga is a cozy homey type of studio. Theres street parking which I easily found and is done with paybyphone. The whole place smells of incense which I loved and the girl at the front was very nice and welcoming. I let her know it was my first time and filled out the typical waiver form. The room my basic class was in was very big with a beautiful setting of candles at the front and a waterfall on the side of the room. Wooden floors and wooden shutters on the windows, I absolutely loved it. Now the class itself basically kicked my butt even if it was a Basic class. I'm not totally new to yoga but I may as well be as it's been a long time and the instructor was helpful with posture and alignment but she didnt push me into uncomfortable positions which I appreciated. I definitely pushed it to my limits and felt the shake in my muscles. The instructor was fun and light and educational on yoga itself so I really enjoyed it. I've been wanting to give yoga a try for the longest time and I am so happy I did! ClassPass gave me the opportunity to try Prana Yoga for the first time last night and I'm ready to come back! I signed up for the Tuesday, 7:30pm basic class. Upon arrival, I was instantly greeted with a warm welcome by the young lady who will checked me in. I made sure to bring my own mat, but if you don't have one, you can rent one for $3. Please be sure to arrive 10 mins prior if you're a newbie, because you do have to sign a wavier. Not to mention, class starts promptly on time! Once inside the studio, I felt cozy and at home. Dim lighting, wooden floors, candles, and a trickling waterfall. You instantly feel at peace. I went in not expecting a full blown workout, but I was sweating! That class kicked my butt! The class ended with a 5-10 minute cool down that was incredibly relaxing. I had a horrible experience with this yoga studio. Last Saturday a friend invited me to take a class as her guess in this yoga studio. I thought it was perfect to get to know the studio since my family will be soon moving to the neighborhood of coral gables. I went as her guess and truly enjoyed the class. So much so that I decided to purchase a monthly pass with Groupon for $69.00. The price for the classes for first time student was $79.00 on the studio's website (see photo attached). I went today to take my first class and the manager, Hope, herself was behind the desk. She, in a cold and rude manner, told me that since I have taken one class there I was not able to use the Groupon purchase. I explained that I was a "guess" before not a "first time student" as she stated. According to her, taking one class made me an "student", therefore the Groupon purchase did not apply to me, it applied only to someone who had never been at the studio. I was very disappointed and I asked to please honor then at least the price stated in their website, $79.00, and credit me for the purchase on Groupon. She was rude and passive aggressive and told me that the price for first time student was $99.00. She showed me and stated that the $79.00 was an old price and did not apply. I was so upset that I left not without telling her that I will never go back there. Their mistake. They lost me and my friend too. We will never go back there. read more

I'm in LOVE. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you're not in Miami anymore. Hardwood flooring, incense burning, Buddha statues and candles everywhere. Also, there were a couple new students that have never taken yoga before and you could tell she made them feel completely comfortable in their new surrounding. I signed up for a class which was then cancelled by the instructor and I was not refunded or given class credits. Class had been cancelled more than once. Prana yoga is absolutely my favorite yoga studio in Miami for many reasons. The first one, not what you might think is Parking. Call me cheap and old fashioned but I remember the days where you didn't have to pay to park everywhere! There is are 2 streets a block away from Prana where you can park for free and walk your Zen-self to the studio. The next reason is the studio itself. You walk up to the door smelling the Nag Champa incense before you come in. Take a deep breath, walk in and sign up for one of their many classes per hour. Their classes are also an hour and a half which makes me feel like I am getting a lot of value for my class pack. Class packs are usually $200 for 20 classes but during their sales they throw in a few more. When you get to the rooms you instantly feel more relaxed. As you set up your mat and grab your blankets you'll notice the beautiful altar they have set up in front of both rooms. If you get the large room they have window that open to the patio which gives you another nice view while you are in warrior 2 pose. As instructors go, I like them all but Richard is my absolute favorite. He does not believe in silence during a class and will play music, everything from chants to Barry White during practice! He will also talk and tell the class stories, anything to take your mind off of a hard pose. I love it. Most instructors want you to focus on the silence or the meditation. This leaves me doing just the opposite, thinking about what I need from the grocery store or what I'm going to make for dinner that night. Richard keeps you interested and engaged for the whole class. At the end of class during savasana while your eyes are closed, sometimes he will dab a bit of lavender oil on your forehead while your eyes are closed. Namaste. read more

I have been making my way to Prana Yoga every Friday evening with Jen R. for community yoga for the last few weeks. You give a donation and you do yoga with the coolest yoga instructors Miami has to offer. Friday's class is given by Richard. Who is Richard? Only the coolest, nicest and funnest yoga instructor I have ever met! This place makes you feel at ease from the moment you step inside. The staff is soooooo nice. I always leave feeling like the world and everyone in it is so beautiful. You will want to visit, trust me! It's fun, and the session will kick your out of shape butt, except you won't realize it until the next day. The music keeps you going and you can even sing along to the music because it's totally encouraged. If you're not a yogi, don't worry, come to a class anyway. Richard will make you feel at ease and let you know it's okay if you can't do every pose. I am so happy with my experience here that I may sign-up for classes for the rest of the week! read more

I have been practicing yoga independently for over 10 years now, and this is the first school I have felt comfortable at. Granted, I wasn't starting out as a beginner, but my sister was and she loved it. Richard is THE BEST, try to arrive early for his classes, well worth it (candle light yoga, the best way to start the week). The place is clean, not sweaty/smelly like some places. There are plenty of blocks and blankets and apparat a for those who are into it. The best thing about Prana may be the course offerings- so many classes at reasonable times and for every level of practice. Having read some Yoga Sutras, I'm not a fan of the "exactness" that some instructors at other places try to impose on the practice- I've only seen one teacher like that here and even that wasn't too bad. The classes are long enough for you to really get focused, and they are well paced and don't feel rushed. There is a fair incorporation of theory in the classes, but usually not so much as to offend religious sensibilities-but there are idols here and there. I generally just make a point not to sit in front of them. I have heard that there can be a parking issue, but I have never experienced this and can usually park right in front of the building. If you're curious about yoga, or you need a new place/way to experience it, Prana is the place to do it! read more

I've tried yoga studios everywhere and was pretty underwhelmed... A gf and I went to the noon classes on Sunday - she did the Basic, and I did the Intermediate/Advanced class. You can pay metered parking right outside the studio, or walk a few blocks and it's free in the neighborhood area surrounding the studio. The front desk staff was really nice and friendly, and showed us where everything was, so big points there. There isn't much space to wait, so the hallways outside the studios get kinda crowded and noisy - not exactly zen. Also the bathroom was not well lit (one of the light bulbs was out), and you had to fumble for the switch on the far wall if you didn't know where it was. The floor didn't look super clean either. The studio (#2?) was sunny and cheerful and had all the props you needed...my biggest complaint is that the floor was NOT clean. The classes are right after the other, so I don't think the floors get swiffered very often; there was lots of hair AND a dead bug in front of my mat. Also, I rented a mat and it was NOT clean. At ALL. Lots of lint, different colored hair, and random crap on it; I didn't see any cleaning wipes or rags in the studio or outside, so I just dealt with it. Like when I was done with it, I had to stick it back in the pile of rental mats unwiped. :( The instructor kept the windows open for the first half of class (it was right before a huge rainstorm) so it was hot and muggy - basically like doing Bikram - so I felt really guilty tossing the mat back on the stack. My friend really liked the Basic class - she said that the instructor was very thorough and cool - and it was definitely a beginner-level class. I liked the flow of the Intermediate/Advanced, but I thought the instructor was kind of snooty and she felt judgmental about my abilities (I'm solidly in the Intermediate level). read more

Man oh man...Prana has me hooked! It all started with Banu.... Banu is a GREAT instructor; her energy always makes the stress from the day melt away when I hit the mat and even when I am in a pose that tests my comfort and boundaries, she manages to get a smile out of me. So I do admit that for many months, I was pretty much only coming to Banu. Then...I started playing the field. Susie. Andrea Ruggeri. Susan. Ana. Patrick. Barbara. Katrin. Adriana. Silvia. They are all so wonderful in their own ways, and each one has taught me something different about my practice and my capabilities. I really am a huge fan of Prana. They have various rooms and I could spend a whole day soaking in the atmosphere. I do wish they had a few earlier morning classes during the week, but then again I am a crazy person that would wake up at 6am to do yoga at 7am if possible. read more

I recently began coming to Prana because of a Groupon they offered. $59 for 1 month of unlimited classes. Great deal! Parking is easy, Although I've only attended classes twice, there have always been plenty of metered spaces available. The studio is nicely decorated and you are greeted with the lovely smell of incense before you even enter. Everything is clean and the staff is polite and soft-spoken. There is a small shop with basic necessities in the event you forgot something. They also have beverages for sale. Unlike the studio I typically frequent, I have not yet seen a water cooler. Perhaps I need to do some more exploring, but it may just be that if your water bottle empties up during class, you will need to make a purchase if you want to quench your thirst....... The winner for me is the 3 rooms, which is fantastic. I like 6pm classes and at Prana, you have 3 different class levels/styles at that time...5 stars for that! The only setback for me is the rate of $20 a class. That is a bit steep. I love the various options and class levels, but I'm not sure that I would come back once my Groupon expires because of this. read more

I have had the pleasure of coming to this little gem of a studio since 2017. This is a legitimate yoga studio with knowledgeable instructors that care about your practice and overall experience. The instructors take their time to show you how to properly execute poses to ensure you don't hurt yourself. The owner, Donna, has created an environment that ensures that you have a positive yogic experience. She is fair, but strict when implementing the studio rules. Recently took a class and I left feeling relaxed and pleased. While the class was less structured and quite a bit more playful I enjoyed the same. This is not the place I would want to go for a yoga workout. They focus more on experimenting with new poses and definitely have more of a laid back approach to leading a class. Kudos to prana, I have been practicing steadily for over a year and for the first time I really get how to do a headstand. I am still looking for a little bit more of a flow though in Miami! I heard about this place almost a year ago and finally dropped in tonight for an intermediate level class. What an amazing experience! The place looks great from the street; very inviting. The reception area is spacious and comfortable. That good vibe extends through the entire building. Every space is well lit, the perfect balance between bright and dark. There were lots of happy faces everywhere--always a good sign. Class was taught by Vic. At first we were sent to a small room, but then moved to a much bigger, more beautiful space. Vic's instruction was very precise and not rushed. Like all good yoga teachers, he placed strong emphasis on non-competition, self-protection, and rhythmic breathing. Class was long, about two hours, giving us plenty of time in each asana. After class, I felt I had plenty of time to get everything together and leave at my own pace. Classes are $17, which is about the going rate down here. Discounts are available for multi-class packages. Most yoga studios have some awkward space and/or a rushed vibe. Being from Miami, I drive down to South Florida frequently to see family & friends. Last time I went home I was itching to go to a yoga class, did a quick search & found Prana Yoga in the heart of Coral Gables. My experience at Prana was great! The studio is super cute, with a couple of large, clean, yoga rooms & even a massage/spa area. I loved the big windows all over the studio, lots of natural light came into the room as we enjoyed the sun doing sun salutations. The yoga teacher I got to experience was Alyssa & she was great, very easy to follow & thorough with her instruction. I'm giving Prana 4 & not 5 stars because parking was a bit of a mess, most of the parking around the studio is meters & if you don't have coins with you you're out of luck. Coral Gables police loves to give tickets! Other than that, a very nice, quaint studio with plenty of options for any yogi. read more

Woke up at 8:30 on a Saturday to make Alysa's Basic class. Totally worth it! She is a great instructor who does a great job of demonstrating the poses but reminds you to be patient with yourself. The class itself was an hour and a half, but it flew by. The energy was serene even when some of the poses were challenging. The studio is great. I was in the space upstairs, which I can see it being it a bit cramped at times, but the windows provide great views of Miami's beautiful palm trees. Love! read more

The reason why I do feel Prana deserves these very high marks is because I felt instantly and genuinely welcomed. Love all the large open rooms on the first floor. The ambience here is great and very relaxing. This yoga studio has not yet failed me. I also really enjoy the instructors at this yoga studio. Over the years I have learned that an instructor can really make or break a class. I have taken beginner, intermediate, candlelight and 2 other variations of yoga classes here and have not been disappointed. I appreciate the knowledge and attention that each instructor has and puts forth. The ONLY thing I do not enjoy is the Saturday morning intermediate class. The instructors are great for this session but the room is located on the second floor. You can tell it is a repurposed bedroom. While it may seem large when it is empty, this class is usually packed and I think over exceeds capacity. So the space is very cramped and there is not enough natural light that comes in. You end up feeling a bit cramped. However, everyone is very nice and always willing to make room for each attendee. Also, the studio is located on a quiet street of coral gables so parking is never difficult. This is always a plus! read more

It's a good size studio and they offer up to 3 classes at the same time for every 90 minutes so you never have to worry about the availabilities. Prana Yoga Studio is a lovely sanctuary in the heart of Coral Gables. As soon as you walk in you know you're in a yoga studio, as the scent of Nag Champa incense permeates the entire space. There are statues and images of Buddhas; Dona Piza, the owner has done an excellent job of creating a truly beautiful space. She also has some of the best instructors in the area, as well as enthusiastic students, eager to grow their yoga practice. The studio was even written up in Coral Gables Magazine as the best studio in the area. What her students and Coral Gables Magazine don't know, however, is that Dona Piza does not pay her instructors. She pays them when they first start, via Venmo, I might add, but then she begins to pay them a bit later, stating that she's working on her bookkeeping, and ultimately, doesn't pay them at all. I know this because I was an instructor at Prana from January through October 2019. Every month it was a struggle to get paid; and when I would text her about it, she was unresponsive. When I became more insistent about getting paid, she texted me to say that I wasn't a good fit for the studio and fired me (via text). I'm still waiting to be paid the $600 that she owes me. Her behavior is in complete contradiction to the pillars of yoga that her instructors teach and that her studio stands for. I would imagine that her students would be horrified to know that all those amazing instructors are not getting paid for their hard work. read more

I used to practice hot yoga regularly in my college town of Blacksburg, VA and I never thought I would be able to find a yoga studio I loved as much. Prana Yoga has become my relaxation-haven in Miami! The instructors are great- Patrick will give you a fantastic workout in his Open classes and Nivine and JuMin will help you relax and ease into the yoga experience in their Basic classes. The teachers care about you having the correct form and will walk around throughout class to correct you to make sure you have the deepest stretch in the pose. The facilities are beautiful with 3 big yoga rooms on the first floor in addition to the check-in/retail area. I fell in love with Prana after my first yoga class, ever. I was so new to the practice and attended a Basic class and have been hooked since. The staff and instructors went out of their way to make me feel comfortable, and made my first experience a memorable one. You definitely feel the positive energy as soon as you walk in to the studio. It's a beautiful, well maintained space with 3 rooms that offer different classes to choose from (depending on your level). Two things that make Prana SO unique are 1 - they have great massage therapists on staff that provide an amazing, relaxing experience. 2 - the holistic presence. Hope, who is an Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor provides consultations, massages, and different Ayurvedic treatments. Prana is the epitome of mind, body and spirit wellness. A gem in this city! Due to health reasons I have recently opted for yoga instead of what I love which is high intensity cardio. I don't pretend to be good at yoga but have really enjoyed practicing daily for the pat fee months. I live in Chicago and go to a studio where the instructors believe that yoga is not a competition and that everyone's practice differs. On Aug 20 while in Miami, I dropped in for a 1030am Sunday, intermediate class and had bad set back in my practice. The instructor appeared frustrated that I couldn't rotate my shoulders like others in the class could. I wish I could but I have a torn rotator cuff (pending surgery) and also have arthritis in the shoulders. Her attitude towards my lack of shoulder movement bothered her which ultimately bothered me. I didn't think it was appropriate to disrupt the class and explain my injuries and limitations. Then we proceeded to do headstand... once again part of my practice has been to recognize and understand my limitations without further I injuring myself.... the instructors was not happy with me not attempting heads stands. She didn't seem to care to know why I didn't want to do she was rather insurance that everyone would try it. "You will be able to do it if you visualize it". I can visualize all I want but that want but hurting myself won't help me in the long run. Disappointingly she offer any alternative options and was bothered when I attempted to do my own modification. I felt inadequate. I felt that I was in the wrong place and did not belong. This class was suppose to be about "gratitude". I am grateful for studios that believe that yoga practice is progress and a different experience for everyone. Not the cookie cutter perfection that seemed expected at this class. read more

Prana Yoga did an amazing job hosting a wonderful week-long teacher workshop. As a visiting yoga teacher, found the staff welcoming and super friendly... and so accommodating. During my visit, took 4 classes over the week... with 3 different instructors and styles... loved all of the classes. Thank you, Prana Yoga, for offering visitors an unlimited week pass for a great price... a wonderful way to try classes. Especially enjoyed Joanne's Restorative Yoga class... could take this class every evening! Hope to return to Prana Yoga for another amazing Yoga experience soon! read more

I've been coming to Prana for two years now and I'm so grateful I've found this sanctuary. They have an array of teachers all with their own different styles and each class/teacher teaches you something new or explains poses to you in a different light. They are well-versed in the history of yoga and the yoga philosophy so you're not only being indulged in a physical practice but a mental practice as well. Additionally, breathing exercises and chants are often incorporated into each practice. The studio is calm, clean and peaceful. Each of it's 3 rooms have something unique to offer. It's a beautiful space for a beautiful practice in a very central location. There is metered parking (the studio provides quarters). They also sell water for $1 and rent mats for $2. read more

Teachers are great and very professional, guide you step by step and teach you a lot of theories and how to practice avoid injury ! The environment is very traditional yoga and very authentic! The only issue for me that it could be more cleaner! But I do recommend this place to people who want to try yoga. It is a good place to start ! read more
