A unique view of the Eastern Blue Ridge Mountains. This is…read morejust a few hundred feet from the Black Rock Visitors Center. It is at the turn right before you arrive at the visitor's center. It has a small parking area right off the road. There is a wooden viewing platform built right off the road terminating in a platform about 8 x 15 feet wide and about 25 feet off the ground. This allows visitors to see below and out across the mountains to the east. It offers a nice view but not as spectacular as the ones from the visitors center. It is important to note that this location offers the Eastern view whereas the Visitor's center offers the southern view so it is unique in that respect. One of the trails originates from this same location. It is nice to see and has a nice informational display built onto the platform explaining the view. When first entering it looks like it is a tunnel through the trees but it opens into a better, broader view. It is worth a stop either on the way to the visitor's center or on the way back from the center. You may also want to visit the Foxfire museum right down the mountain a little bit. Enjoy.

The store sells most typical gift shop flare: t shirts, stuff animals, mugs, postcards, books; things of that nature. Nothing in the store really struck my attention, but I did get a postcard and a Smokey the Bear magnet. Might as well, right? I love a gift shop, but this one doesn't really hold up in comparison to others. It's nice overall, but nothing too amazing that you'd feel bad about missing. Save your money to some other place, but hey, I'm not telling you how to spend your money.

The Fairy houses, Bird & Butterfly Houses, and sculptures are for sale as well. Each item is completely handcrafted and can take at least 2 weeks to make, but the finish product is incredible. There's also a gift shop where you can buy small sculptures, and art supplies. The gift shop is run by his wife who we had a great conversation with! Sweet and talented people! It's free to enjoy and take pictures of the garden, but you can donate money if you wish! We had a great experience here. I totally recommend visiting!
