This is the first public garden designed by Roberto Burle Marx, in 1934. the The street's name refers to Dona Anna Paes' strong house ("casa forte") sugar mill, which also gave its name to the neighborhood, where the Battle of Casa Forte took place, between Luso-Brazilians and Dutch, in the year 1645. In 1933, the courtyard in front of the Church was revitalized. Four years later, in 1937, Mayor Novaes Filho transformed the square into a leisure space, making it available to the people of Pernambuco.
The landscaper designed the park with three gardens, using species of Brazilian and Amazonian flora, in addition to exotic plants. read more
