Because the truth is, gastronomic connoisseur or not, Pizza Hut can definitely cater to anyone who is a self-proclaimed 'foodie' aka food lover extraordinaire. Pizza Hut has expanded so much since I started dining there when I was but a wee kid. Horizons have broadened beyond the typical pizza, garlic bread and ice cream factory. Oh yes. Now the menu is filled with exciting toppings, different bases, different crusts, pasta and salads with a decent selection of desserts to boot. AND these are all available for take-away, including the salad bar. So lick your lips and get stuck in. I'm a big fan of the salad bar, and was heartily upset when it was taken off the starter menu, and placed onto the main course menu at a higher price. However, Pizza Hut have redeemed themselves in my esteem, with their new offer: unlimited salad free with ANY main course. Phwoar that makes me a very happy diner indeed. Further money-friendly offers include the weekday buffet, available until 3pm, where you can fill your belly with as much pizza, pasta and salad as you like for £6.99 adult or £3.99 child. Plus, on weekdays between 3pm and 5pm it is Happy Hour, which is even more bargainous still. Choose between pizza and pasta, then accompany it with salad, a side dish and a drink, all for £5 - positively mouth watering. For those low on cash Pizza Hut is a fantastic fail-safe which allows you to have a tasty meal out, without damage to your wallet. And that's why I keep going back. Furthermore, it's incredibly family friendly with great options for the kids too. So having said all that, I feel a bit cruel giving this Telford branch just three stars. But the reality is, despite all the offers and the brilliant menu, I'm just not sure this branch is up to scratch. I'm not sure if I've just been unlucky to go when they're understaffed, or whether they need to put more staff on at peak times, but it can be very difficult to get service here sometimes. I remember once...I had been seated for over half an hour before someone even took my drink order. Plus there always seems to be at least one toilet in the ladies which is out of order - is it really that difficult to keep three toilets up and running? Apparently so. However there is ample parking space here, and the staff turn out to be very helpful and friendly once they actually have time to get to you.

I was surprised to learn this is the only Pizza Express location remaining in the city centre of Birmingham without venturing to locations that are further out such as at Resorts World. I visited here on a busy Saturday just after Christmas, after being turned away and unable to find a table at multiple restaurants nearby, I decided to come here, after noticing many tables were available. It is a rather large restaurant with lots of seating, although the seating isn't too comfortable and was a slight letdown, considering this appears to be one of the refurbished branches following the newer Pizza Express branding. PRO TIP: Be sure to take advantage of their Pizza Express Club loyalty scheme on their app, after just a couple of visits you can get a bunch of freebies to make your trip more affordable. Without these offers, it can be a little pricey however once you unlock the gold tier you're able to get bonuses such as a free soft drink, bottled water, dough balls, coffee and Dolcetti and the list continues. Back to this Bullring location - I was let down by both the speed and the friendliness of the service here. Granted, they were busy but the staff just appeared unfriendly and rude. I had to wait almost ten minutes for the drinks that I had ordered, only to be brought out sparkling water instead of still, when I queried it they told me they didn't have any bottled still water at all and didn't even mention it to me until I mentioned it myself - I get running out of something can't be helped but why not advise guests when ordering, let alone making them wait some time for a drink that doesn't exist and then changing the order without informing the customer? I also had further issues with the service. For example, they changed my table number on the Pizza Express app without letting me know, which reset my rewards, if I hadn't noticed what I thought was a technical glitch with the app, then I could have ended up paying a lot more. I had previously informed my server of the rewards I was using, which she acknowledged seeing, so why change it? I ordered my usual order, a gluten-free pollo pancetta, with gluten-free dough balls, the food was served at the same time as requested. The quality was average, I did like the long and crispy slices of pancetta, although the mixed peppers were cut far too thick and were unpleasant. The garlic butter for the dough balls was almost completely melted making it a difficult and messy task to spread on the dough balls. For drinks, I went for the passionfruit lemonade, and tap water (after being denied bottled), both were served with ice without asking, but the passionfruit lemonade tasted so watery and watered down. 2* - It has potential sure, but issues with my drinks and service and the overall comfort let this place down, it doesn't meet the Pizza Express standards right now.

The interior is very bright and cheery in a 50s-70s way, with mint green vinyl banquettes and funky chairs. The designers have clearly worked hard. There are lots of tiles on the walls and floor, which tends to reflect the noise bit. But it was all very clean. I was seated pretty quickly but then, despite being pretty quiet, it took over ten minutes to get served. I think they'd forgotten me, to be honest, and I hate having to wave to attract attention. Still, once served the olives and their new "Messina" craft beer arrived soon after, were nice, and the Pizza came swiftly. This was less good - a bit doughy and chewy to be frank. A pity. Service had perked up with my coffee arriving quickly. So an ok experience, just not memorable.

I tried to ring the store and press the bell on numerous occasions for help getting into the store and they offered nothing - they mentioned they ignored it when another guest went in, which proves the store does not care about disabled people to the point where they ignore a speciality disabled service bell, I'd accept the fact they ignored phone calls too down to them being busy but they weren't. To make the service levels worse, the staff member refused to move when I asked for a few minutes to look through the menu with my friend which made me want to get the hell out of there - the store wasn't too busy so she felt it was appropriate to just stand there and stare, despite asking her for a few more minutes before ordering on three occasions. I was also upset to find out regarding the unavailability of many menu items and drinks - I mean come on, are the suppliers and the staff having a competition for being so damn shitty? I've visited six different branches of Ask Italian (around 5% of their branches) until now my average has been 3.1 with experiences resulting in a three-star rating from Sheffield to Manchester, to a four-star rating in London, up until now I've never experienced a really bad branch which warranted less than a three-star rating which is what makes this all the more shocking, to have an experience so bad I had to leave. We were advised that there would be a short wait for our food, but when it arrived, it was hot, delicious, and well worth the wait. It was clear that Vickie and her team were extremely busy, yet she still took the time to come over to our table and have a chat with us. That personal touch felt very special, as it's not often that a manager takes the time to speak with guests directly. Overall, it was a fantastic visit and a very enjoyable evening. My partner in crime had a few reward vouchers to redeem that were good for quite a few chains around Brum. But I nominated Ask. We visited a large and easily accessible location on Hagley Road. It had a nice (and free) car park. As we walked toward the entrance I noticed a few picnic benches out front that would be lovely to sit out on a warm summers eve. Too bad summer is already over. The dining area was a good size. We had no trouble getting seated. A server quickly greeted us and took our drink order. I always appreciate prompt service like that. The menu had a good variety of pizzas, pasta, and seafood. We decided to go for the antipasto board to share, a lobster prawn pasta dish for myself, and a fancy chicken pizza for my companion. The cocktail menu was on the smaller size, but that didn't stop me from trying it! I had the delicious Italian Twinkle which was a refreshing mix of Prosecco, elderflower, vodka and lemon. And since I'm a glutton for these fruity drinks I had another round. This time Moscato D'Asti with raspberries. Both were wonderful, sweet, and fruity. The antipasto starter was alright. It was a mixture of a few things. Not my ideal choice, but nice to try. The rosemary and sea salt bread that came with it was lovely. My main was excellent. There were large chunks of seafood in it. When done well, risotto is one of my favourite Italian dishes, so I was excited to see a number of options, compared to a generic, boring vegetarian risotto most places offer. I decided to go for the "Chicken and Chorizo" The staff were friendly, they didn't have much to do but did check on me during my meal and delivered good service. Despite being the only person in the restaurant, my food did take a while to arrive, I do understand risotto can take a little longer to cook in comparison to other dishes, but it still seemed a long time to wait, when they had no other customers and staff were just sitting around. My risotto was fine, it was nothing extraordinary, it just seemed like a basic, chain Italian as soon as I had my first bite. I did not like how strong the tomato/harissa was in the risotto, and the rice was a little undercooked so it was slightly hard, I also think it was poorly stirred, as some parts of the risotto were lukewarm, and others were very hot. On the other hand, the meat was cooked perfectly, the chicken was especially good, I just wish they weren't so stingy with the chicken portion! The bill came to £13.95, for some reason this included a surcharge for gluten-free, now I could have understood this if it was a dish they made gluten-free so had extra costs to buy the replacement pizza or pasta from their supplier, but risotto is gluten-free anyway, they're literally trying to charge people more money just for having an allergy. 3* - OK, it wouldn't really be a place I would return to by choice. The allergy situation just left me frustrated and confused.
