While I understand that financial obligations need to be met, withholding essential medical documentation, especially when it may be needed for continuity of care, feels like a punitive and unprofessional tactic. It has caused unnecessary stress and potential delays in my healthcare. This practice, in my opinion, goes against the spirit of patient-centered care and creates an obstacle to a patient's right to their own health information. I believe it's critical for healthcare providers to prioritize patient well-being and access to information, even amidst billing disputes. I urge Berkshire Podiatry Office to reconsider this policy and find more ethical ways to handle unpaid balances without compromising patient access to their own medical records. This experience has significantly eroded my trust in this office. I had even let them know that I will be able to pay the full balance of 122$ next week when I get paid, and the manager had gotten very loud and unprofessional and started to yell at me over the phone, not allowing me to get a sentence out.
