Tim arrived on time for the quote and gave us a VERY good price to do the most awful jobs in our house: all downstairs crown molding and ceilings, bookcases, dining room, living room and hallways. The pricing also includes the cost of the paint and supplies. We were quoted a week to complete the job and that's exactly how long it took. Tim was on time every single day and he cleaned up so nicely at the end of every work day. He was very professional. I have nothing bad to say because on top of his outstanding professionalism, he did a fantastic paint job on all the spaces. So I was pretty lost! I didn't realize that most "small time" painters are strictly neighborhood only. Meaning, I'd call someone who I'd gotten a recommendation for (from a friend) and they didn't cover my neighborhood. Even painters located in Squirrel Hill, which I don't think is that far, wouldn't come to Dormont. So the search went on and on. I finally just picked a guy that I googled who had an address listed in Dormont. I called and left a message. We traded calls for a couple days. He had to come and look at the space for an estimate. Okay, no problem. He came by and quoted me $400 for two rooms around 64 feet with 8ft ceilings. We'd buy all the paint and patch any holes. All they had to do was show up with their equipment and paint. Pretty cheap, I thought. Especially considering I called the big guys in town, Pittsburgh Painting Company, and they quoted me around $1,600. Yikes! So $400 it was. I called to schedule an appointment and never heard back. I called again and finally heard back. But the guy, who I now found out was Joe himself, was hard to understand. I later found out he's hard of hearing, so I don't think he hears everything you're saying over the phone. I made what I thought was an appointment, but wasn't sure. Sure enough, two guys showed up a little after 8:30am the morning of the appointment. After looking at my ceilings, they told me, in their expert opinion, it would be a waste to paint the ceilings if I wasn't going to have them fixed (they had cracks all throughout and would have had to have been patched over in a separate, longer process). So we agreed for $400, instead of painting the ceiling, they would paint the hallway leading upstairs. Done. They got to work painting my house in about 8 hours. Pretty fast for what seemed like a large area. But the red we choose for one wall in our dining room had to be painted again, because of the color. So they made plans to come back a couple days later. Good thing they did... Because, the next day in natural light we noticed a ton of spots they had missed. The paint for all the walls except one was a light/medium gray. There were spots everywhere that the old beige paint was peaking through. From what I gathered, they had thought they were done with the gray. The only thing I can say in their defense was that it was an incredibly dark day (rainy and cloudy) and my living room didn't have any overhead lighting, just lamps. They did have these tiny fluorescent lights they brought in to "help." But when I saw them working, it really didn't look like their lights were doing much good. Should painters have better lighting? Probably, but I'm no painter... Joe made plans to come back on Thursday afternoon. But it ended up being after 5pm and it was just him. 5pm in the winter means darkness. So... it's dark again. And there were hard to see spots in the dark that needed to be touched up everywhere. PLUS, the one red wall needed painted again. It probably wasn't smart have him come at 5pm, but I think he was coming after a job on his own time...so what are you going to do. He patiently went through the house with us and touched up all the spots. It was still really hard to see, and we ended up spending another Saturday getting the rest of the missed spots. When I asked how much I owed him, (because I figured maybe he'd add on tax or something) he told me $600. Come again? Of course I told him he had quoted me $400. He then started to say something about doing the hallway. I told him he did the hallway instead of the ceilings. The guy working with him said we should call it even at $500. I just settled at that. I know, I should have probably stuck to my guns. But I didn't. I felt like it was still way cheaper than someone else would have done. I felt like they were nice guys, who are trying to make an honest living. If you're looking for a fast, cheap way to get some rooms painted in the area, you could go with them knowing there may be some work still involved on your end. If you're looking for an easy and efficient paint job, where you don't have to put in any work, then I'd opt for someone different. But know you may be paying the big bucks!

We had budgeted some money for this expense, but all the quotes were coming in for $12-$15k, twice what we could afford. I was sanding down the parts of the door that my dog had scratched, re-stained the entire door multiple times allowing lots of time between coats, and it just kept drying as a patchy, unsightly mess. It doesn't sound like much but it's on the main floor of my single-level house and I was embarrassed when people would visit and have to pass by it on the way to the restroom. I searched on Yelp, as I always do, for a professional to do this job and I really liked Josh talking about the mission of his company to provide for his son, along with his excellent reviews, so I reached out. He was super responsive and was able to provide me with a quote based on photos. His quote was based on a per hour rate which always concerns me a bit because you can get contractors taking advantage of that and artificially extending their time, but he gave me a range of expected hours and said the job would not go more than $350 regardless of how much time he spent. I appreciated that upfront approach and we agreed on a day for him to start. He came over two days to do the main part of the job and I could see why it took so long as he really did it properly, sanding the door down to the dry wood and starting from scratch, which obviously was my mistake and took a whole lot of time. He did the job very professionally, removing the door from the hinges and setting it up on stands in my garage. After the door was completely dry, he planned to stop by an extra time for just a couple of minutes to put it back on its hinges, and we encountered a problem where the door, which is very old, had come apart a bit at the edges from the sanding and wouldn't close once put back on. Josh was completely unwilling to accept this as an end result and took it off again to address the problem using wood glue and clamps. Including drying time, this resulted in a couple of extra visits to my home at no extra charge, simply because he wanted to make sure the job was worthy of his five-star reviews. I was impressed with his work and his work ethic, and he more than deserves that five-star review. I won't hesitate to hire him in the future. Thanks, Josh!

I contacted Pittsburgh Pro Painters a few weeks back with the project, sent a picture of the work needed done and soon afterwards got a price quote. The company advised me to visit a Sherwin Williams paint store to get Min Wax samples so I could color match what best would look good in my kitchen. I ended up selecting a red chestnut color to go with my medium cherry cabinets and a clear coat to go on top. The company agreed to purchase it for me at their discount which I would pay for and pass the savings on to me. On the day of the project, Pete the owner sent out Mark and Joe who would be doing the work. They arrived on time and were both friendly and very professional! The first day was prepping the area, sanding it and applying a coat of the Min Wax with a paintbrush. I was thrilled to find out that I wouldn't need to have a 2nd coat applied which would save me on the labor. They came back the next day to finish the job by applying two coats of clearcoat. The results are fantastic!! Before leaving they explained how to do any necessary touch ups with the remainder of my Min Wax and answered any other questions I had. Billing can be done on the spot or you can wait to invoice you. Cards and checks are accepted. I was very pleased with the work they did and definitely will hire them again for my future painting projects.
