A must must go to place for breakfast, brunch, pastries, sweets, or fun drinks and everything in between! We were staying at The Scott and walked here twice for an amazing brunch...while our room was getting cleaned...and the next morning for a pastry and drink. I had a breakfast sandwich with no cheese and my husband had a salmon and lox open bagel. Both were fresh and wonderful! The portions were huge and we did not finish either portion. The next day we tried a strawberry matcha drink and a homemade poptart. The homemade poptart was filled with strawberry glaze and strawberries and had a semi sweet chocolate layer on the top...must get!!!

Prep & Pastry is back to its usual state of excellence! The biscuits and gravy are a REVELATION. I had never tasted duck fat in that particular iteration before ... and I am converted for life! Today featured rapid and pleasant service and a quick table. Let's hear it for The Random Weekday Solo Brunch esp. with the Blueberry/Bergamot cocktail

Prep and Pastry was a 15 min walk from where my friend's house is in Old Town, so we stopped in on a Sunday morning for brunch. We got a total of 4 items, totaling to under $60: *Mangonada Mimosa *The Cure Mimosa *Chicken & Toast *Shaved Steak Sammie The mimosas were yummy, definitely juice forward, but I still enjoyed them both! My favorite was the Cure :) The food here is always portioned perfectly in my opinion! Not too much but it too little. I think it's perfect for the price point. Their fruits and veggies we got that day were fresh! And the food was great - the bread on both our plates were delicious! The service was quick and friendly, and they allowed us to request an outdoor table to enjoy the beautiful Scottsdale weather! They checked in often and didn't rush us out the door, which I appreciated! :) The restaurant (including their bathrooms which makes me want to give them an extra star! ) was clean, as well! Overall, it's a good, centrally located spot in Old Town for brunch!

This is our first time at this location. We had enjoyed the Tucson location years ago. Overall it was ok. The poblano Benedict lacked flavor even though there were poblano peppers in it. This place is light and bright so you can see all the dirt on the floors and the baseboards. I feel like they may need a deep cleaning. The highlight are their pastries. I would come again for coffee and a pastry but maybe not a meal.

My new favorite thing is being able to walk to new restaurants to try. Prep had been in my list for a while. The wait was minimal and a bit noisy. My girlfriend and I shared an egg sausage and cheese Sammie on a croissant and the Smokes Salmon Hash bowl. The hash was really good with the house horseradish (very little kick but good flavor) veggies potatoes and eggs. Very little kick but good flavor. The roasted potatoes were huge and seasoned really good. The croissant to me wasn't that soft, the only downside. For drinks I got a black coffee and house Bloody Mary with a side car of the house beer I think the coffee stout, nice touch! The gf got the banana latte, not sure of the name but she liked it so much we got one to go! Oh and Prep seems to love their potatoes.

Prep and Pastry is a breakfast/brunch type place with coffee bar located in a more upscale and trendy area near Old Town Scottsdale. They have a separate coffee bar area off to the left side as you enter where you can grab a drink and/or pastry to go, although I saw plenty of people dining in when I visited. The interiors are tastefully done as is expected in this part of Scottsdale. As I wasn't looking for a meal, I had a white chocolate mocha latte and a sticky pecan cinnamon roll that caught my eye in the pastry display. The white chocolate mocha latte (4.5/5) was of high quality and tasted great without much bitterness, satisfying my caffeine fix. The sticky pecan cinnamon roll (5/5) was a high quality cinnamon roll with just the right amount of sweetness, accented just a little bit by the pecans for a wonderfully delicious pastry experience. Service was quick and friendly from the male barista there. While I can't speak to the dine-in food experience, I would recommend Prep and Pastry for decent pastries and caffeinated beverages in Scottsdale.

Came to Prep & Pastry in Scottsdale for breakfast, coffee, and a pastry and really enjoyed it. The vibes were nice, relaxed but still lively, and the service was great. The food did not disappoint, especially the chocolate croissant, which was amazing, would recommend warming it up. Everything we tried was good and well done. Definitely a solid spot for breakfast. Would recommend walking around after and looking at the local shops.

This place, located in a prime spot, always caught our eye but was closed whenever we were around. Finally, we decided to stop by for brunch. They don't take reservations but use a Yelp waitlist system, such a convenient touch! We went around 2 p.m. on a Sunday and were seated right away. The restaurant has a modern, well-lit, and warm ambiance. Service was quick and exceptional. I tried the pecan coffee, easily one of the best coffees I've had in a long time! For food, I went with the Harissa Shakshuka. Unfortunately, the sunny-side-up eggs were too runny, and the sauce leaned overly tangy for my taste. I wished I had picked something else. The classic French toast was decent, though I've had better. Overall, the food didn't quite hit the mark, but the coffee and service definitely did. Prices are reasonable, and the place has potential. For now, I'd rate it a 3.5 but rounding down to a 3.

    Chickpea Scramble With A Vengeance
    Sherry W.

A cute little cafe for brunch, drinks, and pastries. The chickpea scramble was good but could use a little more texture. I didn't realize the chickpeas are cooked into the eggs. I thought it would be roasted chickpeas on top of the scramble. The non alcoholic drink, With a Vengeance, was delicious.

Walked in to grab a coffee and a pastry. It was around 11:30am on a Sunday so the breakfast crowd had cleared out. The coffee bar is located just inside the door and doesn't require you actually seat in the restaurant. I grabbed a latte and a dossant. The latte was well made and smooth. The Salted Caramel Dossant was a combination of the doughnut and a croissant. It was really nice! One note, it was quite sweet. Pretty sure I could not have eaten the whole thing by myself. Service was fast and friendly. Ambiance is clean and modern. There were a host of other pastries from which to pick that all looked great. Didn't try an breakfast items so can't speak to those.. N*joy!

Looking forward to trying this place

Fantastic breakfast spot! Everything came out hot, fresh, and full of flavor. The portions were generous, the coffee kept flowing, and the service was friendly and attentive. A perfect place to start the day--definitely a 5-star breakfast!

This place is an absolute gem here in Scottsdale... one of the best breakfast places you can visit in the city. Located right across the street from Olive & Ivy, I suggested this place this past week to my mom and my sister for late brunch, and the three of us wound up there around 1pm on a Monday. We got there and were greeted immediately by the guy working the bar, Jordan was exceptional. He was super kind and helped us to navigate the menu a little easier. My mom got her go to: biscuits and gravy, and it was served piping hot in a big boat of a bowl. She also got a mimosa that she was very pleased with. I got a honey lavender matcha as my drink, which was very creamy and tasty. I got the steak and egg sandwich, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The bread was nice and crunchy and the steak wasn't chewy in the slightest, it all melted in my mouth. My sister got the salmon Benedict, which she wanted over easy but came out a little over hard. That didn't matter much, she still put it down. She got a raspberry cream latte, that was better than the matcha that I got. The chandelier on the ceiling was notably huge and gave this place some beautiful decoration. The pastries all looked super yummy, and our guy Jordan blessed us with a few of them, they were so yummy. Overall, our experience in general here was super positive and I'm glad we found a new neighborhood brunch spot, it may just be one of the best options in the area. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back eventually.

Fresh pastries, coffees, smoothies and breakfast/brunch items. Food is always delicious!!! Restaurant has a cute vibe and always reminds me of a little European café, especially when you sit outside. Very attentive waitstaff and your food usually comes pretty quickly. Perfect corner location in Old Town between Nordstrom's at Fashion Square and the Canal.

Is this restaurant open on 4th of July 2022?

    Yes

Do we need reservations for lunch?

I don't think so. We were just there on Monday around noon (no reservation) and were seated immediately. There was plenty of open seats. Might be a different story on weekends.

What are the parking options near this location?

There is a ton of parking nearby. There is free street parking right in front of the stores you can usually find during the day and there are huge parking garages with free parking as well. You'll easily be able to find parking here - it's not a… Read more

What's the atmosphere like? Looking for a place that's not too loud or packed

The inside has very high ceilings, very open and airy. I was there at an off hour and sat outside, but cannot imagine that it would ever feel cramped, loud, etc.

Are dogs allowed on the outside patio?

    Yes

Do they do anything for birthdays?

Not sure. I would give them a call. Likely not much right now due to Covid.

Is there a bottomless mimosa special on the weekend?

    No, unfortunately not.

Are dogs allowed on patio (if they have one)?

Yes, dogs are allowed on the patio.

Does this location have an event space or more private area for a larger party?

I asked about having a holiday party in the evening and was told they would hold a party for 50 or more depending whether we could seat on the patio or just inside. Should be a great setting.

This review is for the totality of the experience…read more I made an advance reservation at Alma Scottsdale for a mid-sized group of 7 to celebrate a special occasion. Our party arrived right on time for our reservation, but we were not seated until 15 min later because our table was not ready. It took about an additional 15 min to get tap water for the table (there was not enough provided anyways), and to place our orders too another ~20 min. The food did not arrive until 30 min later. For context, we eventually learned that the restaurant was short staffed and the bartender was also operating as our waiter. When the food finally arrived, there was a mix-up on what was delivered. We had checked with the staff who delivered one of the dishes: we ordered the "wild mushroom" side, but what we received did not look quite like it. We asked clarifying questions x2, but were assured, "no, it is the wild mushroom." Turned out, it was the mushroom empanada that was delivered to our table, which we originally did not order. The management did rectify the situation upon the conclusion of the event when we were paying the bill, but to us, it felt a bit accusatory as if we intentionally wanted to cause a huge fuss about the final total, which was absolutely not the case. The food in general was delicious. If this was a more standard dining experience, it would have been 4-5 stars just for the food. The service was very subpar, and really colored the entire experience negatively, therefore the two star review. I understand that staffing shortages happen -- fine. My family has worked in food service as wait staff for 25+ YEARS, so I am empathetic. But for management to ring up our bill and then come confront us in an inflammatory manner, making us feel like we were wrong, on an occasion to celebrate something special, was extremely disappointing.

We sat outside in the evening shade for a nice gathering. We shared the Cuban Caesar salad with romaine, manchego cheese, sliced pears, toasted pepitas, masa croutons, avocado, fried plantain chips and Aji amarillo Caesar. The salad was crisp, well dressed and delicious with the fried / curled plantain chips. The shrimp cerviche with fried plantains, blue corn tortilla chips, lime, cilantro and cucumber pico de gallo was ok but not remarkable. Our final selection was the Gaucho spiced skirt steak with chimichurri, and masa potato cakes. The steak was overcooked, not medium rare, bland taste and tough. The potato cake was tasteless. Overall, the ambience and service was good, however, the food lacks any hint of Cuban flare except for the fried plantains. When I think of Cuban food, I salivate for the unique taste profiles with a hint of sweetness from the fruits. At The canal Club, I found it non-existing. The name, setting, and environment is good but the kitchen needs to let in on the theme being Cuban.

The six of us were seated across from the bar, and it was HOT . I started sweating and needed to use the menus as a fan and drink water to try and cool off. The restaurant had already been open for almost 2 hours, so I am not sure why it was so hot inside (others in our party were hot too, so I wasn't just me). Positives are the restaurant's beach decor and the hamburgers. Several people in our party ordered burgers, and they were cooked to perfection and the fries were really good! Negatives are very few seafood menu options and the fish tacos were terrible. They were drowning in a mayonnaise based slaw. The corn tortillas were really fresh and tasty, but when I bit into my taco I could mostly only taste mayonnaise and the pickled onions. Our friends even made an unsolicited comment that my tacos did not look good. Luckily, I selected fries as my side, because they were the best thing on my plate. With a name like Montauk, and the beach decor, I expected more fresh seafood options on the menu. More than half the menu was not seafood (Mediterranean platter, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, brussels sprouts, salads, etc.). Unfortunately, Montauk does not live up to the hype.

During the meal, there were 2 standout dishes that made this memorable. - Hamachi Crudo: THE BEST crudo I have ever had. They switch up the dressing regularly, but whatever they put on mine was unforgettable - 10 oz Wagyu Strip: solid steak, but nothing "Wagyu" tasting. If I had one minor critique, it would be the king crab legs. They are char-grilled, which gives them a smoky flavor that wasn't quite our personal preference.
