I do not enjoy leaving 1-star reviews and rarely ever do, but this business has caused us so much distress that it would be unfair not to warn others before contacting this office. We switched to another local tax resolution and preparation office, and we were stunned upon deeper investigation to find out just how bad our situation was after using Ziptax. We were slammed with IRS penalties, interest, and found that Ziptax not only neglected to file our taxes correctly, they also purposely left out write-offs they claimed had been entered. Ziptax filing errors and incompetence has cost us thousands of dollars, and we are still working to resolve the problems they caused. The tax preparer we worked with overlooked basic forms that were needed to file for health insurance and college expenses, and ultimately refused to include legitimate tax write-offs on our behalf. We were then forced to file an IRS amendment, and she submitted incomplete documentation several times causing the IRS to close out the amendment due to missing information. Ziptax makes no attempt to discuss your tax situation in an effort to maximize your refund or limit the amount owed. Our experience was that of a slam & jam tax prep company that simply looks for the fastest, easiest way to submit the return. I have to assume Ziptax is at least capable of filing basic personal taxes on some level, otherwise they would be out of business by now. But do yourself a favor, interview your tax preparer before working with them and ask them about their process. We failed to do so initially with Ziptax, and it cost us dearly. Better yet, skip Ziptax altogether and find a more competent company in town.

I have been a turbo tax user since 1999 and I will be returning to these services next year and for good. I recently bought property so I assumed it would be to my benefit to have a professional look through all possible deductions. That was a really bad idea. I almost missed a tax credit after addressing a mistake and had to explain what a 401k retirement account categorized as. I googled it and told my tax consultant. When it came time to pay there was no evidence of the referral so I lost out on that discount. The person working up front announced in a lobby of guests that they were have stomach issues and wasn't planning on working the next day. This could have been a back of the office conversation. Not pleased at all. Huge waste of money.
