This is a review of College Avenue from the perspective of a bride who was recently married here…read more When my husband and I decided to get married in my hometown, I knew I wanted to have our wedding ceremony at College Avenue. I grew up attending this church, though my parents never formally joined. For non-members like us, the fee for a wedding ceremony is nearly twice what it is for members, but the church has to make money, so I can't blame them for that. The church staff were truly a pleasure to work with, especially for a bride planning her wedding from across the country. Pastor Lisa Schubert Nowling is a very genuine and warm person and was wonderful throughout the wedding process. We had three premarital counseling sessions in the year leading up to the wedding, which is standard practice at College Avenue. Since my husband and I live in San Francisco, she was willing to do some sessions over Skype. Though Pastor Lisa didn't know either of us very well before we decided to get married at College Avenue, the ceremony she put together was so beautiful. We got many compliments later about how personal and touching the service was. Mrs. Lemna is the wedding coordinator at College Avenue. She made sure that the rehearsal ran smoothly and everyone knew exactly where to go and what they were doing on the big day. John Emert, the organist, was great to work with as well and a talented musician who was willing to offer a suggestion on the music when I asked. As you can see in the photos, the church itself is very beautiful and was a picturesque place to get married, but it's Pastor Lisa and her staff that really made the whole experience very special.

I did not know this church spoke in tongues and while I believe it is a gift from God, there was no interpretation and it was with timing. If you believe in practicing tongues, there you will find many positives. If I'd had any heads up I would have skipped trying this church. Their website states non-denominational so it was unexpected.

This church just added morning services in September 2022 at 10:30am with evening services still at 6pm. The pastor puts many hours of prayer and study into his sermons and the preaching helps you to live a better and more committed walk with Jesus! You will be more Crazy for Christ if you attend this church!!
