The man who was working in the shop took pity on my crap German and of course spoke fluent English. Which was great but it's akin to you being awakened from your momentary illusion that you are indeed not Marlene Dietrich but instead a bumbling fool who's command of English is worse then the German man. Bruised ego aside I got a few boxes of Romeo y Julieta and mumbled to myself as I left, "You may have the superior language ability but I got a bargain because I live in a really expensive country and you don't. Ha! Take that German man."

This is a good stop if you're at all into cigars or brown liquors or lounges or hotel bars or…read moreswankiness. It's not a big venue but can accommodate a group. Inside are tables for 3-4s and outside there is a patio for more people. While relatively small their drinks list had something for everyone, with really good values on Scotch and whiskies. Apparently, many locals drink beers with their cigars. Go figure but, as long as they enjoy it, I'm good. Located next to, or is it part of, the upscale Savoy Hotel. Service was great, really attentive to customers with explanations and suggestions for picking cigars.

On the…read morefirst visit I purchased a box of the new La Gloria Cubana Regional Edition Glorias and a handful of singles recommended by the esteemed Dr. Herzog. After reading articles about him over the past 15 years in European Cigar Cult Journal it was fascinating to hear his thoughts on the Cuban cigar industry and proper aging of Habanos. After speaking with him for quite awhile Dr. Herzog asked if I was lucky enough to get a box of the long sold out Ramon Allones RE 898's. I told him that I did not have them so he offered to sell me a box at the price they were offered for when they were released over a year ago. Unfortunately I forgot my credit card in the hotel so I returned the next morning to buy them. This was incredibly nice of him because most of the boxes sold out immediately and no other shops have stocked them for months. I was disappointed because Dr. Herzog invited me back to smoke a cigar with him but I was too busy in meetings during the days in Berlin to take him up on his offer. However I did have the opportunity to smoke a couple cigars at his nice La Casa del Habano in the Savoy Hotel since it is open until 2am. The original Zigarren Herzog is a small but elegant shop with a very well stocked humidor and an amazing selection of high end lighters/ashtrays/humidors but the real gem is being able to speak with a world class cigar expert as Dr. Herzog. This is not the type of tobacconist I would recommend for a beginner but if you have a real interest in cigars then you are in the absolute right place!

The staff was very helpful; even though I didn't know German and it was difficult to translate some of the ingredients, they googled and make the best to inform me. Also they let me taste some of their own blends before buying so I could check the flavor before selecting one. It has a wide selection of brands, also cigars, pipes and accessories.
