During a leisurely walk with my two children on Wednesday at 3pm, I noticed some local ballers having a couple of shots around the concrete arc of our local basketball ring (I later learned it was named Lovelace arena). The quality of shooting was comparable to under 10's throwing bowling balls. I have given this activity 1/5 stars.
We did a lap of the block and upon returning, saw the competitors furiously chasing 2 basketballs around the arena, one player to each ball, of which a rather slow talking fellow with large biceps described as '2-Ball Killer' in which a winner is crowned after all the others are eliminated. I give '2 Ball Killer' 3/5 stars and the man they dubbed the 'Wizz' 4/5 stars, he would have received 5 stars but he made several remarks and chants that some may consider racial by nature.
Fascinated by this game, and the ferocity the players competed with, myself and the kids felt compelled to stay and watch.
The final game of 'Two Ball Killer' divided the players in order of elimination, forming 2 teams of some kind, however their odd numbers seemed to trouble the large red haired player, who had been shooting like a blindfolded man that couldn't bend his elbows. I was then approached by one of the individuals to join in and even up the numbers , for a friendly game of 4v4 Streetball. 5/5 for their friendly & inclusive nature.
After having the sleeves of my shirt ripped off to fit in with their dress code (today's theme must have been gay pride) they immediately started to throw down. No skills, no talent and most importantly, no fouls. Although a multitude were committed, none were called, in some sort of honour system, in which the victim would shout 'No blood', 'Play on' or 'I'll allow it', for which they are awarded 5/5 for sportsmanship.
The Preston Street Ball Association receives 4/5 stars overall, and I would encourage anyone to join in the antics via the Facebook page read more
