I am ashmed that it took me so long to review this place. I cannot say enough good things about Priest Station cafe. They serve excellent food, and if you catch service on the right evenings it is just the family serving. They are friendly and welcoming. Most weekends they have a theme dinners (for lack of a better name) my favorite is the German nights. They have fabulous al gratin potatos, rustic bread and a handful of excellent main dishes. Lunches are similarly good, burgers, sandwiched, and homemade chips galore! read more

While the people who work there are very nice, the food and atmosphere are mediocre at best. My green salad was just OK and the vinaigrette dressing was way too sweet. Burgers were nothing special.The clam chowder was watery with not much flavor at all and there was a heated up dinner roll. A thicker, creamier, more flavorful soup with a sourdough roll would have been much better! read more

Excellent food, but poor service. We waited 45 minutes for breakfast and were only offered a coffee refill once.

A nice place to stop by on your way to Yosemite. It's located just outside of the park. We went at the beginning of April, and the weather for outdoor seating was perfect. Recommend sitting outdoors to enjoy the view and the nice breeze. Ambience is casual, comfortable and great for conversation. Food quality is good (for what you get around Yosemite!). This was perfect timing for a lunch stop after leaving the Bay Area heading to Yosemite. The food was ok and somewhat average. Some interesting things on the menu. The views were fantastic for outdoor dining. Everyone was very pleasant and engaging. read more

Excellent home made food. Loved the zucchini pie and Hugo's Torte. Good vegetarian and vegan options.

We had the German dinner, which is offered on the first week end of the month. The pear salad was cool and crisp with just the right amount of red onion and blue cheese. The German Sausage meal was very good. Two types of sausage that were grilled in a bed of red cabbage. The potato salad was just right and the torte for dessert was wonderful. The staff was friendly and the service good. I would recommend it and would certainly go back again. read more

Stopped for brunch. The view was worth 5 stars. The food was good, standard breakfast fare.

Rode by this place many times but never stopped to eat here before. Gathered a few riders and came over for a Easter Sunday lunch. Ordered a blue cheese burger with sweet potato fries. Beef patty is cooked nicely with excellent flavor. After the lunch we continue the trip down golden chain highway (HW 49) to Mariposa. What a view. read more

My friends and I went to the Priest Station once. The food was barely edible. What made it worse is the hundreds of flys all over the place and food. Should have really turned around when I saw the fly strips hanging from the cealing. Not worth going back. read more

Mmm! The apple cobbler was a yummy end to our meal! My family and I stopped here on our way back from Yosemite, drawn by its location at the top of the hill and the Yelp reviews. We enjoyed our food on their outdoor patio. Their bathrooms were very clean (for restaurant customers only). The split pea and ham soup was delicious, and I enjoyed my brisket sandwich. Great local grass fed beef makes up one of the best burgers I've ever had. Cool climbing theme and great food make for an awesome place to eat after a day of crushing at Jailhouse or Goldwall. read more

I would like to highly recommend Priest Station Cafe to all of you not only because of the good food and view from the cafe but because of the quality people work there. The owner and staffs who worked there tried very hard to find me to return my lost bag with valuables inside it. I really appreciate their goodwill and honesty, they truly made a difference and made my west coast trip perfect! We have driven pass this place for years and watched recently that the Cafe was looking more loved and taken care of. We stopped by for breakfast on our way home from Yosemite. What a joyful surprise. The food was wonderful and the owner waiting on us was delightful. He told family stories and gave us a great history into both the cafe's original gold rush owner and how the family rescued the place from a long decline. Highly recommend the stop for Chiliquiles. My husband and I ate here for breakfast on the way to Yosemite. It looks so adorable off the highway, and we were hungry for breakfast. We didn't think many places could mess up a breakfast. We were mistaken. I ordered french toast and they literally burnt my toast (no hiding it either) and brought it out. Didn't even apologize for burning it. I was like "seriously--do I eat this?" I looked shocked and dismayed, so my husband called the waiter back and sent my meal back. They seemed to think that it wasn't burnt--it was black on both sides--in my book that is burnt toast. I was so frustrated, I wanted to just stop at McDonalds for a sausage biscuit rather than stay and eat my french toast (I hate McDonalds). My husband didn't seem overly impressed with his meal either, and the prices were a little high for the meal. Don't let the cuteness of this place cause you to stop--just keep driving! Best place to stop to and from Yosemite! If you have driven by here on the way to and from Yosemite and never stopped, you have missed out on a great meal. The burgers, your choice of Angus certified beef or grass fed beef are flavorful and juicy. It really hit the spot after a weekend of backpacking. Homemade chips on the side were crispy and delicious. In addition, the view from the deck is spectacular and the service extra friendly. Our waitress, the daughter of the owner, told us they had repurchased the cafe in 2009 and remodeled the building and its 3 cabins. We had noticed the change, having passed it often. This is truly a gem of a place and we will definitely be back. read more

Best burger between Yosemite and the California coast! Today was our third time at Priest Station - a great place! Had German food the first two times, it is wonderful! German home-cooking! Potato salad and brats are great! On the menu daily. Today we had the grass-fed organic beef cheeseburgers - fantastic! They tasted so good, handmade and chargrilled out back of the restaurant...smell them cooking....just like you'd make a premium burger at home! All the fixings. Today's special was jambalaya, which looked delicious. Sit on the patio and enjoy the awesome view and great service. Has been in the same family for 6 generations, now owned by famed climber Anker. Stopped for lunch on way home from Yosemite. View was lovely, burgers were yummy, and service was fantastic. The place has so much history and is family owned. I think we could have all talked to the owner for hours. He was super kind and told us about the history of this place and his family. Really recommend it. I have eaten at this café before and it was alright....nothing really exciting about this place. However, on my way up the hill a few days ago, I just needed a quick stop at a restroom. I approached the restrooms and saw a sign that a key was needed from inside to unlock the door. I went inside to ask for a key. The employee proceeded to tell me that I had to buy something in order to use their restroom. I looked at him with a confused look and replied "really??". He looked at me with such a glare and reluctantly handed me the key as though I was the biggest imposition he's had all week. I go past this restaurant often and have friends in Groveland but I will NEVER go back to this place again unless its to reimburse them of the precious toilet paper I used. This is now a post Yosemite tradition. I can't imagine a more restful and relaxing stop on the way back to civilization. The patio is awesome. It's an incredible place to sit, look at the mountains, wild flowers, and to enjoy the summer breeze. The home made chips are pretty good too. read more

stopped by here at 3pm on a sunday for a nice burger and fries. the burgers were cooked to perfection and ingredients were very fresh; fries were super chunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. waitress were very nice and i saw her patiently explaining directions to more than 5 people when we were inside -- seriously people, bring a map and learn to read it if you are visiting a national park without a gps. outside patio is warm and sunny with a great view. bathroom is very clean and pleasant as well. read more

Wonderful location at the top of Old Priest Grade where it intersects Highway 120. There is a comfortable deck with a panoramic view of scenic, rolling hills. Healthy food with vegetarian options and gluten-free desserts. The many fresh, home-baked cakes are scrumptious! Every weekend, some specialty item is available. I had the turkey dinner; the dressing was outstanding. Many items, including the soups, are made from scratch. Many beer options, including on-tap. Engage the staff, and you'll be rewarded with an interesting, intelligent conversation. read more

Food was average and the service was awful. Plus there are a lot of flies and wasps at the outdoor tables. Our waiter who was pregnant was completely rude to us the entire time, at one point even slamming our side of fries onto the table. We are always friendly to wait staff and could not figure out why we were being treated this way. read more
