Located in Somerville, Prima Pizza Kitchen had been on my pizza hit list for quite some time. As it was my first time visiting and wanted some variety, I ordered their garlic knots, the standard plain cheese slice, and the drunken grandma slice. The garlic knots (3/5) were just ok, on par with the New Jersey average, and a bit dry on the inside (I prefer them a little more saturated in oil). They asked if we wanted marinara sauce, but it was subject to an upcharge, where we probably would have declined had we been informed about the extra charge for it (most places I'm accustomed to provide a side sauce upon request complimentary). We ordered ahead for a large cheese pizza (3.5/5) so that we could eat it freshly prepared out of the oven. The standard cheese slice was a small notch above what you'd expect from a typical NJ pizzeria, but neither the sauce, cheese, nor crust stood out. We also got a drunken grandma slice (4/5) which was the winner of the meal with the unique flair of the vodka sauce with cheese on a thinner square base. Overall, I'd rate Prima Pizza Kitchen a 3.5/5 in the very competitive NJ pizza market, and am happy to round up since Yelp doesn't allow half stars and the service was friendly. 9/16/25 - We pre-gamed tonight at Prima Pizza Kitchen in Somerville, NJ. I've had mixed experiences at the pizzerias of that area so my expectations were pretty low. But tonight I was pleasantly surprised. Prima Pizza Kitchen definitely specializes in thin crust pizzas. There's not a great selection in the slice case up front, but I was able to spot a sausage slice to go with my plain slice for testing purposes. The plain slice had a super delicious sauce. Whoever made the sauce has a heavy hand when it comes to the Italian spices especially the oregano. And I certainly have no complaints about that. The cheese is a wonderful premium mozzarella and has great flavor. I loved the thin, crispy and crunchy crust. The knock on this one is it's a bit limp. The toppings don't slide off but you definitely have to get underneath it to take a bite. The sausage slice has all those same delicious attributes but the slices of premium sausage add wonderful flavor. Again, this slice is a bit limp but like its plain cousin, there's no toppings sliding off. Most importantly, both slices are top-ranked when it comes to flavor. Garlic knots were just what you'd want. Slightly crispy on the outside. And chewy, moist and doughy on the inside. Each had a wonderful garlic flavor inside and out--- and with each bite. As followers of the One Bite from Barstool we knew we needed to try out their pizza because of the high ratings, and just as promised the pizza did not disappoint! It was thin crust with a healthy amount of cheese, and it was neatly made without it being sloppy. So definitely enjoyed. What I liked better however was the tuna hoagie. Ordered a few times from here - pizza each time. First time ever was a month or so ago, and my roommate and I tried the "award winning" camplain pizza. My overall review of it is that they upcharge a bit too much for the higher quality mozzarella, which has a lower water content but a much higher salinity. It's basically an upside down pie with the sauce on top. Their tomato sauce is good, nothing exceptional, but coupled with the crust, which seems burnt every single time whether ordering well done or normal, and that cheese, it becomes a moderately bitter salt bomb each bite. While it's still a good pie, it's just a little too salty. I know they like doing their pizzas well done as a baseline, so we learned the first time to not request well done on top of that baseline. The Sicilian, however, is confusing. Cut into 12 slices instead of 9 or 16 (just odd seeing a 4x3 cut), it's somewhat over-proved, which leads to a very inconsistent surface, and an extremely tough dough. They use the good doppio pepperoni that cup up, but make an extremely greasy experience, and all toppings have been inconsistent in quantity from pizza to pizza. Scant pepperoni and mushrooms one day, oil slick another from the pepperoni grease. Also, it feels like asking for extra cheese only gets to a "normal" level of cheese at other places. It's not bad pizza, but just feels like it has so much more potential than what I've gotten delivered thus far. Will continue to patronize them, and hopefully will figure out the magical combination to get the perfect pie from them that I'll always turn to when I'm craving pizza. read more

This is my go-to spot for pizza. I tried it for the first time when I had out-of-state friends in town last summer since it made it on one of those Best of lists. We tried here last night (Halloween) after a lot of positive reviews from folks around Somerville. We called ahead of time and we're able to get through after multiple attempts. We waited the hour and a half and went to go pick it up. Unfortunately when we got there, the food was not ready. We had to wait an additional thirty minutes or so. Ended up being little over two hours. The pizza was awesome! We got half grandma and half drummed grandma. Really good flavor. I bit into and instantly said: "this is the best pizza thus far in the Somerville area" since we moved here recently. The only thing we were a bit unhappy about were the wings. Not because they tasted bad. I feel they could be good. It's just that they were cold when we got home. I guess maybe they were made prior to the pizza. The pizza was completely warm. The wings were not. We heated them up in the oven and they ended up tasting wrought I want to point out, I can't fault them too much. They were working extremely hard in there and it was a holiday night. They were bound to be extremely busy. The only thing thing we minded was the wings. But mistakes happen. This Is the 2nd time I've had pizza from here I decided to ask for my pizza to be made thin crust this time . Have to say it's a pretty decent slice !!
