Fast forward a week later, I'm in Paris and I stumble upon the COS store in the Marais. There are two COS stores in Paris but the Marais store carries the full collection. What I like about COS is that they carry many basic colors that you can mix and match. We're talking black, white, and gray. They have casual, business and special occasion attire too. Something for everyone and for every occasion. The styles are v-e-r-y cool with unusual mixed fabrics used together, asymmetric cuts to the skirts, unexpected shapes to the neckline or styling on the clothing. I haven't been this excited about discovering a clothing brand EVER. Needless to say, I tried on many dresses, tops and accessories and came away with a cart full of clothes. Whoopeee! Now I can no longer say I have nothing in my closet to wear. COS has solved my dilemma and given my wardrobe some excitement and fun. As a division of the H&M group (from Sweden), I'm excited to have discovered COS and I hope that I'll find their clothes sometime soon in the USA.

Call me a softie, a sell-out, a traitor to my roots, but I'm saying it loud and proud: I kind of really like Antoine et Lili. What did me in? The middle shop devoted to kids stuff. Right before my little tot was born I found an adorable patchwork stuffed elephant there that looks like a grandma sewed it together used retro pieces of fabric. I was bummed to find out that it wasn't one of a kind, however, but for 20E, I couldn't turn it down. I've since gone back on multiple occasions for other goodies, like a fabulous hand-crocheted rattle from Peru that is safe for babies to suck on, and these amazing unisex leather booties with Freddy Mercury pizazz. Each time I've gone in the staff has been super sweet and helpful and genuinely baby-friendly. (Shops in the US could never get away with this design philosophy as they'd be beaten down by protests of cultural appropriation and political correctness). Conversely, the actual number of clothing designs is actually rather finite - variety consists of producing each tried-and-true pattern in a multitude of the aforementioned prints. Ultimately, these qualities allow for brightly colored clothing to be enjoyed outside of Lilly Pulitzer's Junior League and West Palm Beach retiree enthusiasts. As a bonus, VAT refunds are processed. I regretted buying a pair of jeans that were too large and when I took them back to exchange Allison was super rude about how I could only select an item from the new collection - unfortunately almost the entire boutique had been put on sale that day, so I only had a few pieces to choose from. It was the location for a last minute stop by my nephew and me for him to pick up two wool sweaters that he had had his eyes for a while. Even though my wife wasn't there, I purchased both sweaters for him on her behalf ($46.62 each). Checkout was a snap, with putting the entire bundle in into a special bin where the RF scanner can register all items in one shot. It worked fine, and it was nice knowing that all taxes are included in the price tag, eliminating surprises. He chose to wear one of them to his farewell dinner that night.
