PCA works very hard to maximally charge insurance and patients. I have gone to PCA for several years. As a physician (a specialist who cares for very complicated patients), I know what constitutes reasonable billing codes and when to apply them. In early 2024, at my annual physical, I was billed a 99213--moderately complex office visit (=$89 after insurance); the billing department told me this additional billing was due to the doctor clicking on two refills for long standing, non life-threatening health concerns that were minimally mentioned at the physical. After that visit's billing, I discontinued those two medications. This year at my annual well health physical, I was again billed a 99213 (=$95 after insurance) despite not being prescribed any medication for any condition by this physician. This time, the initial billing employee told me the charge was due to my doctor's "co-management" of a chronic condition (for which I had seen my specialist two days prior and for which my primary was never involved in the care or coordination as I self referred). Then I was told that the additional billing charge was due to my occasional use of an over the counter heartburn medication and to discuss my cholesterol for which I do not receive any treatment. The Affordable Care Act of 2010 includes preventative health maintenance covered 100% by insurance. The providers at PCA and their billing department work very hard to find miniscule issues to levy additional charges for the patient +or insurance which is part of the vicious cycle (the medical-industrial complex) and contributes to ever escalating insurance premiums and patient financial harm. read more

if you have a brain do not go here. My doctor recused to listen to me or do the tests I asked for. My insurance company did an annual patient audit and the NP was shocked at my condition and the tests that should have been done and were not. She put her notes in writing and I sent them to the doctor. He told me to go someplace else! Which I did. I would never recommend anyone to this place. I've been through several doctors here and they all treat people the same. They're just money hungry and push unnecessary tests and pharmaceuticals. They don't like when you disagree with them and don't listen to actual concerns. It's not just me, my mom, my great aunt, friends, they've all had the same experience here. The last straw for me was spending over $1000 out of pocket trying to get treated for ringworm. Ended up with better care at an urgent care because my doctor wouldn't listen to me. She kept prescribing $14 tiny tube of cream that was the exact same as over the counter cream costing only $3 even after I explained that it didn't work for me. That's when the unnecessary tests started. They don't care that normal people can't afford to continuously go to the doctor trying to get treatment for simple things such as ringworm. read more

In the middle of winter, I woke up one night with a Kissing Bug on me. In case you do not know, these are tropical bugs, they are not native to Wisconsin at all. It seemed to be an absurd and insane scenario. Who would believe me? Even I could barely believe it, until I realized that the owners of my apartment building had just replaced the roof a day earlier using a completely Hispanic crew. Fortunately, I had proof. In my half-asleep daze, I had slapped the bug while it was on me and stunned it, making it easy to capture and place in a jar. I sent pictures of the bug to my primary care physician, Aaron Douglas, MD, and asked if I could come in and be immediately tested for Chagas Disease, which the bugs often carry. Most medical professionals would probably think there is no way you could possibly have had a Kissing Bug on you in Wisconsin in winter. They would simply refuse to even deal with you, but Dr. Douglas treated the entire episode with legitimacy and true concern for my well being, never doubt or skepticism. Dr. Douglas had me drop the specimen off at a local hospital which was authorized to send it to the CDC for verification. The CDC confirmed that it was indeed a Kissing Bug. Dr. Douglas then drew blood samples from me and I was tested for Chagas Disease. Fortunately, the tests came back negative. About a few months later, I asked Dr. Douglas if I could come back in for a second Chagas Disease test, just for my peace of mind. My reasoning: I wanted to be sure that I did not get a negative result simply because the disease may not have spread throughout my system yet, since I was so quick to request a test. Chagas Disease is easy to cure if detected early, but if you miss it, it destroys every muscle in the body and the damage becomes impossible to reverse. The victim usually dies when the heart muscle becomes Swiss cheese. I just wanted to be sure I was still negative for the disease. Dr. Douglas accommodated my request. No questions asked. Fortunately, my results showed no Chagas Disease once again, and I was completely satisfied. When your doctor takes you seriously, no matter how bizarre the situation or how unlikely the scenario seems, and puts your well being and medical needs first and foremost, he is worth his weight in gold. I have nothing but respect and admiration for Dr. Aaron Douglas. He is everything that a great doctor should be. read more

I changed insurances, I asked if I was still covered with the new insurance and they said yes, they said "we are independent and we are providers for your new insurance" and gave me the appointments. Then the insurance didn't cover the services because they were not PPO providers and I got a bill. I talked to billing they showed doubts about my word as if I was lying and provided no solution. Very disappointed with them after being a patient for three years I think they could have done better. read more

I've lived up in Appleton for about a year before needing a doctor. I've been lucky. But one day I needed to be seen ASAP. After calling my insurance and finding a provider in network, I called Primary Care Associates. I spoke with reception about needing an appointment and described my symptoms, she immediately transferred me to a nurse. Upon speaking with the nurse it was decided I needed to come in that day. Fast forward to later that day, I walk in and get checked in. The receptionist was incredibly friendly and we went over the basic insurance and new patient paperwork. I was directed to a specific part of the clinic to wait and be called back. It was probably a 10 minute wait before a nurse called me back. She was very friendly and took my vitals and added my symptoms to my chart. After she left the doctor was in about 5 minutes later. Again, I'm very impressed with the low wait times and very friendly staff. Dr. Scott Gyorog is absolutely wonderful. He probably spent 30-45 minutes with me as we talked about what was going on. He was getting my medical history and did a physical exam. He thoroughly explained the next steps, getting blood work, some extra tests. I felt heard and comfortable that he cared about my health and wanted to help figure out this problem. I went back out to a different part of a waiting room and waited to have some lab work done. The phlebotomist who called me back WAS WONDERFUL. I normally pass out when getting blood taken. But she was so skilled I didn't even feel the pinch and was surprised she was already putting the bandaid on. I have never been treated with such respect and kindness at a doctors office before. I am happy to have such a caring team in charge of my medical care. I recommend them to anyone looking for a family or primary care doctor! read more

Be aware that this group charges egregious prices for lab work. They charge 10 times more for lab work than an independent lab and they refuse to send your specimens to one. If you are ok with spending $1000 for $100 worth of tests then go there. read more

My wife had two appointments here to see a doctor. Instead of seeing a doctor they automatically assign you to a Physicians Assistant and charge you the same price as if you saw an MD. What they charge anyone who is private pay is absolutely outrageous! Of course they do not tell you what it will cost ahead of time. Each appointment cost over $170, for about a half hour with the Physicians Assistant! Once I received the bill, I tried to talk to billing about working out a lower fee. They would not work with me at all, but allowed me to pay over time. I paid $10-20 dollars nearly every month for over two years, even though they wanted more. All of a sudden, without any advance notice from Primary Care Associates, we get a letter from a collections company wanting the rest of the money. Primary Care Associates would rather pay a collections company than work with private pay patients! Primary Care cares more about getting their money at their price than helping their patients! We will never go back there again! read more

Do not go to this place if you are a minority. My family physician here was Dr. Dan Heyerdahl and even though he knew I could speak and understand English, he continued to speak to me like a 5 year old (I am 20 years old and Hispanic). This happened mostly during my fathers checkups, which I went to because I was the interpreter. He would also treat me and my father in a extremely passive demeaning way which he knew bothered me but he continued to do so. The physicians here that I had experienced are racist and do not care about your health. All they care about is writing as many prescriptions as possible and running as many tests on people as they can so they can get that bonus. Dr. Dan Heyerdahl tricked me into taking multiple tests knowing already what was wrong with me and that I was uninsured and unable to pay for the huge bill. Do not trust these crooks. read more
