Parking was free and plentiful, and we were seated without a long wait, though we highly recommend making reservations, especially on busy nights. This is the best restaurant we've found so far in Gainesville. After the last reminder they stated our table would now be set for our arrival and it was definitely all ready with our exact number of place settings, no wait, when we walked in the door. Host staff was very welcoming and immediately created the feeling that their restaurant was special. Also appreciated the text suggestion to silence/put away phones to enjoy the meal. Parking was fairly easy with a garage just behind plus ground level parking all around the various shops. The mashed potatoes were all of our favorites - SOOOO delicious!!!! They were creamy, flavorful...everything you want in mashed potatoes - definitely don't miss these!!! The steaks were pretty good. We preferred the flavor of the filet, but both were very nice. There were no fewer than 3 people (including a manager) who stopped by the table to ask if our cook was as we'd requested. The waitress even asked us to cut into the middle of each steak before she left the table to ensure we were satisfied with it, so if you don't like your cook level, there's plenty of opportunity to have it addressed. I have never encountered a restaurant where the staff was so genuinely wanting to ensure accuracy of the steak & handle it if there was an issue. I decided to pop in here for a quick early dinner before attending graduation. We let the staff know we only had about 45 minutes to be in and out, and we ordered some drinks and some shareable sides. The drinks off their holiday menu were delicious, we ordered the potatoes as a side and that was delicious as well. We also went ahead and ordered the truffled Brussels sprouts which were very good. Unfortunately, we also ordered the corn chowder which our waitress insisted could be made vegetarian because the lobster or chicken is added in and not in the base one. We agreed to try it as my spouse is vegetarian, and when it arrived we noticed it was containing lobster within it. The waitress had a little bit of a back-and-forth with us on whether or not it did, but as not a vegetarian, I took out the pieces of lobster and tried it, which it was very clearly lobster and the whole thing smelled like fish. They promptly took it away and we got a small apology from the manager which was nice. Considering the severity of serving meat to a vegetarian, I expected one of the sides to be comped by the manager, but it was not and only that chowder was taken off the bill. That is fine and that is definitely not a negative, but it was interesting given the point of customer service there. Overall, the ambiance is very nice. You get a nice little walk-up section through a little outdoor park. Inside, it does look very fancy, which is nice for a romantic dinner. So many restaurants have servers (that for whatever reason and probably for all kinds of reasons) do not offer a smile...a smile goes a long way with me and I think for most people in making customers feel welcome. We had Alex, who was the server assistant, and Lea, our server, who made us feel welcomed and like we were a priority (which I would bet they did this with multiple other tables--as they should). We had six people in our party. All the food came out just right. A mix of fish and steaks. We also had a birthday and they put a candle in the dessert and our server Lea sang with us. I took my husband here for his birthday while visiting Gainesville. Sadly, I was disappointed in our dinner. First off, we ordered mocktails because we don't drink much which seemed to annoy our server. It was our first time here and we told our waiter this but he gave little I sight as to what dishes may be good and recommendations for ordering. We had ordered the "famed" French Onion soup as an appetizer, only to be informed later, that they were out of it. How do you run out of soup? It was not very busy and the restaurant was only about half full at the time. We then waited a long time for our starters of wedge salad and pork belly. The wedge salad was average at best, with bacon bit crumbles rather than real bacon, and the pork belly was good. We watched as everyone around us enjoyed their delicious bread. We had read about it in the reviews and assumed it came with the meal but it never arrived. We finally asked someone who was not our server and he said it would be served with the entree. Our server vanished and was not to be found until he delivered our entrees. We asked about the bread and he seemed astonished that we didn't get any? Meanwhile, as we were finishing up the entrees, the bread arrives with their signature blueberry cinnamon butter. Mediocre at best. The bread was more like a breakfast popover. My husbands steak and grilled shimp were very good. The filet was cooked perfectly to his liking and the shrimp were tasty. My $53 piece of sea bass was cooked perfectly, but the "blistered" heirloom tomatoes that were in the dish were far from blistered, were cold, hard as rocks and basically served raw. We shared the mashed potatoes, which were quite salty but edible. We finished with Chocolate Mousse cake for dessert which was just ok. They did write Happy Birthday on it so that was nice. Th cake was quite large and too much for two of us. We took half of it home with us. The chocolate did not seem to be the quality chocolate we are used to for a chocolate ganache cake. The oysters were good but disappointingly small. The rack of lamb came with three pieces and were a great size. I got them in medium and was cooked perfectly, all juicy and tender. It could have used a bit more salt. The four green beans served with it felt odd, they definitely could have added a lot more instead of charging $11 for a side of green beans. The redfish was well-prepared but lacked flavor, and the lumb crab on top didn't appeal to me. This was our first visit to Prime & Pearl, and we were looking forward to celebrating our wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of expectations. It was impossible to have a conversation or enjoy the atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We started with the smoked pork belly appetizer. While the flavor was decent, it lacked any real smoked taste and had too much char for our liking. My wife ordered the salmon entrée and said it was flavorful, but the portion was underwhelming for $33--just a smear of mashed potatoes and three green beans on the plate. I ordered the 16oz ribeye with a side of au gratin potatoes. The top of the steak looked great, but the underside was completely burnt--so bitter it was inedible. When I mentioned it to the manager, he explained that their steaks are cooked on a very hot wood-fired grill and some char is expected. I agreed, but pointed out this wasn't "char"--it was burnt. A hot grill isn't the issue; lack of attention is. They remade the steak, but it came back extremely undercooked--black and blue rather than medium. Meanwhile, the potatoes that were served with the first steak sat on the table and were ice cold by the time the second steak arrived. I declined to have the steak reheated again, as it would have ruined it. The steak was taken off the bill, but at that point, the damage was done. My wife ate alone, and I never got to eat. To top it off, service was slow, and we had to ask multiple times just to get bread. Our anniversary dinner was supposed to be special, but we left disappointed, hungry, and frustrated. Been wanting to try Prime & Pearl for a while so went for the $52 Thanksgiving Dinner Plate but received a $12 dinner. It was advertised as a mixture of white and dark meat and I prefer dark so first thing noticed was no dark meat and only few slices of white meat on the plate. Even more disappointing was the gravy at the bottom of the plate was actually cold. My daughter complained she was thirsty as her glass sat empty for too long. They bring over a tray of assorted knives and let you pick your knife which seemed corny when food and service was blah. Not sure how they think this plate is worth the money. Always heard great things about this place and was looking forward to dining here while visiting for work. On my last night in town, I came with a colleague and her 3yo son. He's an active child and it had been a long day so his last burst of energy was presenting itself before he wore out for the night. He even rode a tiny scooter over from our hotel which the hostesses were so kind to accommodate us with a table for us to "park" it . Naturally, I understand the concern but here's how she handled it: my coworker runs after her son that second time and she takes a while to come back. Hostess comes to our table and sits down with me before my worker and son returns asking me if she could wash off the high chair or bring a booster seat for him to sit in so he stops running off as it's a hazard. I said I totally understand and sure, let's ask mom if she's okay with it (in my mind I know he's way too big for either). Hostess leaves. Coworker and son come back and shortly afterwards the hostess returns and asks "did she tell you my plan?" I kindly asked her to ask my coworker. She's the mom. So the hostess became ice cold. Sounded rehearsed or robotic almost. A few minutes later, the high chair is brought and my coworker attempts to put him in but he's not fitting and he clearly doesn't want to sit in it. Disaster and honestly such a huge scene it's become. Coworker then begins to weep and I'm in shock like what is happening. The hostess asks if she made her cry and instead of apologizing or sympathizing continues speaking in the emotionless tone and walks away without anything being resolved. At this point, I'm trying to figure out how to get us out of there as quickly as possible so I ask our waiter, who was great by the way, but missed all of this and didn't realize the situation, if we could have our food packaged to go. While we waited and settled our tab, I asked my coworker if hostess lady said anything to her on the other side of the restaurant because something just didn't seem right. She said "yes, she had just finished yelling at me in front of the whole restaurant, berated me even, before she came over here asking about the chair." Yes it was a safety hazard. Yes it probably was nerve wracking to see him run about the restaurant and feel the need to confront the mom. I expected more from them service wise and with a much better attitude. I'm not the mom but I sympathized with her situation and find it unkind to embarrass someone over their child in front of other patrons. I made reservations over 3 weeks ago for booth 20 at 6pm in the bar area for my husband and I to celebrate my 60th birthday. We have always been so impressed with the food, service, and Harry, one of the managers. We have spoken very highly of this establishment. After tonight that will change. I found myself caught in Gainesville and wanting a really fine dinner. So, Yelp to the rescue, and I came up with the solid four-star Prime & Pearl. Though basically a steak house, there are a number of things that set Prime & Pearl apart and are better than most other steak houses. In their words, they "work with professionals whose top priorities are ensuring the well-being and quality of the cattle, encouraging biodiversity in the landscape and safeguarding natural habitats," which led them to the plains of western Nebraska, where the ranchers raise cattle with limited human interaction and all-natural feed. All the beef is solid prime, no choice cuts and you can have a choice of those that have been dry-aged 45 days, and believe me, you can taste the difference. The interior décor of the place is subdued classical modern rendering a warm comfortable feeling and overall atmosphere. The service is top-notch professional with some interesting touches. One is that they will bring to your table a case of varying steak and allow you to pick your choice. I chose a French-style sort of like a Lou Laguiole with its slender curved handle as I like its feel better than big heavy near machete types normal to most steak houses. For my meal, I started with their oysters Rockefeller done with spinach, Pernod and parmesan. Though not up to those of world-famous Antoine's, outstandingly good. With only a few fine-dining restaurants in the city and none with any dedication to oysters like I love, Prime & Pearl has become a new spot to indulge my fab taste! Located in the newly-built Celebration Pointe, this is an exceptional location for a restaurant of Prime & Pearl's caliber. Upon entry to the restaurant, you'll be overtaken by their beautiful decor, extensive bar, and eye-catching fridge complete with steaks aged over 45 days! But let's get to the food and experience, that's why we're all here. After visiting 3 times now, I think I've finally found my faves! First - if you're a lover of seafood or simply love Oysters, you've got to try the Fire-Roasted. WOW. Fresh, hot, juicy and so flavorful - I've had them each visit and they're definitely my fave now! I tried the Diablos on my first visit and wasn't as overtaken, but still yummy! Many that I receive are thick and meaty, but a few baby ones here and there appeared but man, the flavor was massive either way. One of the best parts about the oyster experience - Prime & Pearl's delicious homemade crackers! If only they came out warm, omg. I'd never leave, lol. But they're a perfect addition! I decided to switch up and try a new appetizer on my 2nd visit - the Smoked Pork Belly. I'll be honest - not my favorite, unfortunately. The char was overwhelming and essentially tasted burnt BUT - the pork under the char was delicious but difficult to enjoy. The chutney on the pork belly was delicious, as well as the grits although they were limited as a garnish on the plate. On my 3rd visit and a date night out, I opted for the Oysters again and my date enjoyed the Marsala Meatballs. The meatballs were perfectly flavored with the marsala mushrooms, I wouldn't personally order again but if you're a meatball lover, you'd enjoy it! And onto the meat! - My hun ordered the Ribeye and I, the Lamb Chops which we paired with the Lobster Mac & Cheese and Brussel Sprouts. I was nervous about the Mac, as everybody can't do mac and cheese, okay?! LOL. But Prime & Pearl, truly can! There was so much lobster, the 4 kinds of cheese were perfectly paired and so creamy, it didn't stand a chance and next time I'll order two because he barely shared! Sadly the Brussels weren't a hit with us, they looked delicious but idk? But the Lamb? The Steak? AMAZING. Both cooked perfectly at Medium, they sliced like butter using the epic knives (that we were able to choose from a fancy display presented by the server - talk about an experience!!) Beyond the delicious food, the experience is truly worth it. I love the beautiful decor, the comfortable non-traditional seating, the smooth jazz in the background. We also enjoyed the lobster bisque and French onion soup. You MUST try the grilled corn off the cob (my favorite dish of the night) and the crispy Brussels sprouts. Both were amazing!! Overall: Came here to celebrate my friend's 30th birthday. It was just 3 of us. And it was a great time, good food, good service, and a whole lot of laughs. Ambience: We were seated right away, which I am glad because we did make a reservation. The place is definitely intimate. Although, I'm sure you can have groups in. Service: The service was decent. We had a couple different servers so we weren't sure who to ask what. We pretty much grab whomever we could if we needed something. Food: Pricey but good! We shared Diablo oysters, Brussels, and the mushrooms as appetizers. The oysters were greats, but the other two apps were just okay in my honest opinion. Nothing too special. My two friends had ribeye and New York strip. I don't eat meat so I ordered the Chilean Sea-bass. It was delicious. We ordered a few bottles of wine LOL I mean it was my friend's 30th. We had no room for dessert though. I would say the food for what they are known for steak (prime) and oysters (pearl) was good, but everything else was just mediocre.
