The food is overpriced. We had a party of 12 and spent over 1,000.00. The steaks were bland. We all ordered medium cooked steaks and had to send them back because they had blood running from them. My husband's steak came back the second time burnt on the outside and still red in the middle. We drove a quite few miles and could have gotten better steaks at Longhorn or Texas Rd house and saved a lot of money. The owner said he would call and make it right but he didn't. This place is small but has a very upscale look. We came here with a large group and the service was great! It's just off the main downtown street in Aiken which helps with parking. The specials menu has lots of delicious sounding options as well as the fine selection of steaks on the regular menu. We had a variety of appetizers and steak. Everything was cooked perfectly. I'd give it zero stars if I could. The absolute worst Filet Mignon I've eaten, and that doesn't even consider its nearly $60 price tag. I asked for rare. It was too dark in the restaurant to see how pink it was, but the meat was so dry that I literally couldn't eat it. I ended up giving it away to someone who said theirs was dry, too, but they were able to choke it down. I've never in my life had meat before that was tender, but had absolutely ZERO juiciness and nearly no flavor. Simply an awful experience. I wouldn't go back even if it was free. Avoid at all costs. Overpriced!! My steak was over cooked and I sent it back and when they brought another it was burnt. Horrible! I ordered a baked potato and just wanted butter and cheese and they charged $8 for the potato and $2.50 for the butter and $2.50 for the cheese!! This is still a very good steak house, make no mistake! I am updating my review from 2010 mainly because I've been there more than a few times since and lately, there are some changes that are not 'making the cut' so to speak. (From my 2010 Review): The steaks were big and cooked exactly right (unlike the steaks at Bern's) and the sides were extremely well cooked. I particularly enjoyed the large onion rings too.) Now, the menu now indicates that for your $44 4-oz Filet Mignon, you still get the shared table salad (like the way Olive Garden serves it) with Blue Cheese crumbles (which is still delicious!) but when your steak arrives, it's just a steak with 2 onion rings. You can tell by the empty space on the plate that "shouldn't there be something else there"??? Back a few years ago, your steak order came with the table salad, mashed potatoes, the veggie medley of the day and the onion rings. Now the mashed potatoes and any veggies are $8-10 side orders to add on to the price of your entree. I understand trying to shave costs with the economy and all but taking out both the mashed potatoes AND the side of veggies is a bit too much for steaks that range from $44-60 or more. It was cute that the waiter tried to play the lack of potatoes and veggies off as 'because of Masters Week' (don't get me started on the whole Masters Menus thing!); but truth be told, it was like that back in Feb. when I took my wife there for Valentine's Day...so I'm not buying it. Plus (and I hate when this happens because I know they were busy) but my medium-rare Filet came out medium-well. It seemed I was the only person at our table with an overcooked steak, so I just swallowed my complaint and worked through it; but honestly, at these prices and having to pay an extra $20 for 2 sides that used to come with the (normally) perfectly cooked steaks is a bit out of control for downtown Aiken standards. All in all, a very good steakhouse that perhaps has grown to 'believe its own press' a bit too much with the cutbacks on the meals and overcooking steaks when things get busy. For the prices and quality, you can get just as good a steak order at Aiken's Speakeasy, the Brewpub, Linda's Bistro, Trio's, the Variety and some other downtown restaurants. It is Masters Week right now, so I know everyone in town is busy and probably exhausted but the whole point of taking family who are in town for the Masters to Prime was to impress them, not drain their wallets for a meal that we could have gotten several other places in town for less money or at least that included a side or two. read more

We relocated from NY and I've also done a fair amount of business travel to cities like Chicago, San Francisco, Palo Alto and others. I've eaten in many steak houses including the known high end establishments like Peter Luger, Mortons, Ruth Chris, Homestead (NY), Franks (NY), Benjamins (NY) Smith & Wolensky (NY), I could go on. We decided to try Prime in Aiken had a very unpleasant experience. Our meal went well enough, steaks were cooked to correct temperature. Fried Oysters and Oysters Rockerfeller were good. Contrary to what others have said about the salad that comes with the meal, we liked it. We ordered dessert and the waitress informed us they were out of coffee cups so we received our coffee in metal mule mugs, making it much too hot to drink out of - honestly burned my lip. When I informed her, she proceed to pour our hot coffee into plastic cups! Are we camping out or dining in a fine restaurant?! We were clearly disappointed and when we raised this with the manager, she told us they only have 5 coffee cups in the restaurant. What?! And she was rather flippant saying, well, everything else was good, right? Well, we didn't complain about the prices, but everything else was NOT good. The steaks here are not Prime Cuts and not the best quality, so didn't warrant the $68 charge for a Ribeye. We were shocked when we received our check. This restaurant does not provide a drink menu nor a dessert menu. The cost for a Bulleitt Rye up was $26.50, a slice of chocolate cake was $16.95 and a slice of peanut butter pie was $13.75. Everything else on the menu was very expensive, similar to NY prices so we knew that up front, but charing $26.50 for a cocktail and $16.95 for a slice of layer cake is absolutely ridiculous. This is much higher than I've ever experienced. We felt deceived by the fact that the restaurant is clearly hiding their greatly overpriced liquor and dessert prices. Between that, no coffee cups and the managers flippant attitude, we will not be back. read more

Went here for New Years Eve dinner with a group of 16. From the moment we arrived they were trying to rush us. The waitress started trying to get our orders before we all got menus. I ordered two seafood starters for my dinner. When my husband asked about salad, my friend told him it came with his entree. I said I wouldn't order one. The waitress said, "Since you didn't order an entree, if your fork touches his plate, I will charge you for it!" Throughout the meal she was snatching dishes away as soon as forks were put down, or glasses emptied. Very abrupt and rude! One would expect a "prime" steak house wouldn't serve choice meat (at these prices), but here it is. It's truly amazing how bad customer service can be at an "upscale" restaurant. The first time we visited, we weren't allowed a table without a reservation (restaurant was half empty). The second time -- treating in-laws -- we had the audacity of reserving a 7pm table. The (very nice) waitstaff, couldn't conclude our meal fast enough, because "... we're closing at 8, and want to get everyone out." Then, last night, the server couldn't be less-trained and attentive, even though she had only one other table. With outrageous prices; mediocre food quality; a horribly-unfit hostess; and, a strangely, bi-polar wine list .... I don't see this place lasting another four months. Steer clear. read more

This was my first time eating at prime. My husband and I ordered the blue point oysters and the escargot appetizers both were excellent. Then I ordered the stroganoff my husband ordered the rack of lamb with a side of lobster macaroni and cheese. Again the food was excellent only to be out done by the service. The servers were attentive and quick my glass of tea was never empty and my husbands wine was filled quickly when he requested it. Tables are close together if that bothers you. We recently moved to Aiken from NY and my husband wanted to try a steak house so we decided to give Prime a try. The Atmosphere was nice, but the attire of ALL the staff did not fit the restaurant. Not one person was dressed the same except for the apron they wore. One server was even dressed in short shorts. I will give ALL the staff credit where due. They all worked together extremely well as a team. Although we had our own server we had several bringing our food, drinks and clearing our table of finished dishes. Everyone was VERY pleasant. Starting with drinks - Be aware there is no drink menu - come on - with (from what I could see at least 30 different bottles of wine) so I ordered a Cabernet Sauvignon - was in shock when we got the bill and glad I only had one glass @ $19.50 per glass and we all know with wine it's half a glass. My husband had two vodka martini's they were $18.50 each - again a shock and he wanted Stolichnaya which they did not have so he had Grey Goose. For appetizer's my husband had the escargot - which he said was fine, but could of used more garlic. I had the only non-fish appetizer which was a very small amount of filet tips in a sweet & sour sauce. This was delicious the sauce was a wasn't sweet, but a tad spicy - again ask for prices if not given so your not shocked at the bill . This appetizer was as much as my dinner at $46. On to the meal itself. To my surprise and a good thing all meals come with a salad bowl to share of lettuce, a few pcs. of tomato and about 4 olives COVERED in OO & Vinegar dressing , along with a side of crumbled blue cheese and a basket of nice warm bread. My husband had the Cowboy Rib Eye and I had the 8oz. Filet. Both were cooked perfectly. Not a great cut, but not bad either comparable to Costco meat. Dinners also come with plain mashed potatoes and two large tasty onion rings. We also paid extra for the grilled asparagus which was very good. Our final bill with tip was just over $300. Honestly we won't be back at these prices. Like I said we are from NY and these are NY prices (except for the drink prices which are higher then any restaurant in NY we have been to). Even in NY you are given a list of all the specials with prices or if told the specials the waiter tells you the price when listing the specials. To bad if it were a little less expensive and had a drink menu and were a little more classy it would be worth it. If you go remember to get all prices before you order. That's were they make the $. Our diner would of been just over $100 less knowing the prices of the drinks and specials. read more

Average steaks and Boca Raton/Manhattan prices. We had 2 glasses of wine each @&16 per, 1 filet mignon meatloaf, 1 8oz filet, an order of frites, 1 tiramisu and the bill was $210 before tip. Service was friendly and helpful but it's not Morton's. Not sure what they're thinking. We need more high end restaurants in town but Prime needs to really up their game and get their pricing aligned with their food quality and dining experience before we'll come back. read more

We came here to celebrate a couple birthdays with family from out of town. We all ordered appetizers to share and lobster bisque - which was absolutely the best part of the entire meal. Our calamari and caprese salad did not taste fresh. The medium rare porterhouse was overcooked which wouldn't bother me usually but for $84 I would expect it to be perfect. The three sides of spinach that were ordered were lacking a freshness and were inedible. Everything was extremely overpriced for the quality of the food. I also noticed two instances where the front of the house staff went to the manager for assistance and he responded in a pretty rude manner. For being such a small establishment, he should take into consideration that the guests can actually see and hear this type of interaction. It should be noted that it took an hour and half to receive our entrees. I don't mind waiting for an incredible meal, but this was overkill. Despite the poor service from the kitchen, the front of the house staff was very attentive worked as a team to serve the customers. Our server was extremely professional and polite. read more

Do not be fooled by the pretty website. The food is completely substandard. The server did her best but this place is so bad i do not know where to begin. The only good thing was dessert & it is not made on the premises. No presentation, bad cocktails & bland. And $134 for1 person which I am happy to pay when the quality is there. My porterhouse steak was very dry, overcooked and flavorless. When the owner asked how my steak was I told him it was dry and charred. He asked how I ordered the steak and I told him "medium rare+" (the waitress's recommendation). He shrugged it off and told me not to order their steaks that way. I expect more from a $62 steak. My steak was "marginal" quality .... a [much] better steak could be had at half the price at any of several area "chain steak houses". My wife's lobster was quite small, but the price was not. The only thing this venue excelled at was pretentiousness ... if that's what you're into. The service was pleasant, albeit not very quick. I'd give the service three stars, but the quality of the food, lack of atmosphere, and excessive prices reduce the overall rating to a solid 1-star. Went here for dinner Friday night. They have been open for a few weeks, and they DO have their liquor license now. I highly suggest making a reservation as all the tables were filled when we were there and they actually turned people away. The space is very small, but not too loud. I had the Filet Mignon Salad, and it was terrible. However, everyone else in my party had the 6oz Filet, and they were spectacular! It was so tender and juicy, not heavily seasoned, the meat was just that good. The sides are served family style. We had the sweet potato fries and the other couple had the mushrooms. They serve french bread and a large salad for the table to share. The wine list is fairly large, though they only have house wines by the glass. So, to sum it up- BEST STEAK IN AIKEN. 2nd time at Prime the other night. Originally went cause nothing else open Monday night in this otherwise wonderful restaurant town. Learned quickly that Randy knows what he's doing. Open, light setting with serious food equipment at the table (check out the knives). Homemade salad dressing is to die for. It's your first reminder to relax and put yourself in his hands (ie don't ask for ranch here!). Bread always fresh, filet is exactly the way it's supposed to be; size, thickness, color, everything. Staff has a wonderful professional no-nonsense manner, present when you need them, knowledgable and quietly out of the way when you want privacy, the food/ambience remain the stars. Interestingly he always has 2 screens running at the bar: sports on one, concert videos on the other! Love this place. Recently relocated from Las Vegas, Nevada to my wife's hometown in Aiken, SC. My father-in-law has repeatedly endorsed Prime as he knows I love a great steak!! We had the perfect occasion for my first visit, to celebrate my wife's 49th! The staff was especially accommodating, especially our waitress, whose name I believe was Alex (pleasant blond young lady). Definitely recommend the bone-in "Yankee cut", but skip lunch before going if you plan to finish all in one sitting. Perfectly grilled as ordered and deelish!! I will echo the comment about the included house salad- nice presentation but using iceberg lettuce- I definitely would have preferred a healthier mix of spinach, arugula, etc.. They will also tempt you with an assortment of deeserts of course- triple chocolate something that I helped my daughter finish off.
