This was our second visit to Saffron, and it was as good as we remembered. Despite being very small…read morewith only a few tables, they're really the only game in town for Indian food in Innerleithen, as their busy take away counter testifies. The menu is printed on a cloth scroll, which is rather cool, although I do wonder if they wash them after use in these COVID-infectious times (I made sure to sanitise my hands afterwards just in case). There's a great selection of food to choose from, and you might not be used to some of the dishes as they have their own regional style. Plenty of choice for veggies too, so don't worry about that. We had the sharing platter starter between us, which is not huge but gives you a taste of many of the starter dishes. We each followed up with one dish and a nan bread (or paratha in my case). Not a huge amount, but just about right and left us with enough room to squeeze in a portion of the mango kulfi - do not miss this, it is heavenly! I like a beer with a curry, and as I was driving, I was pleased to find that they had two non-alcoholic beers - Cobra and Peroni - on tap. A great addition to the town, and if I lived here I'm sure I'd be visiting a couple of times a week!

Only four tables so maybe call ahead. I ordered a spicy lamb dish. Sorry, can't remember the name. Lamb was a bit tough but still very tasty with garlic chili rice. Naan was great. Service was quick and attentive. I would definitely recommend this place if you are passing through or live there.

Dishoom was one of my favorite meals in Edinburgh. We started with the bun maska and masala chai…read morecombo, along with the chili chicken. The bun maska was perfectly drenched in butter, and the chai was hot and comforting. The chili chicken was also really flavorful with the perfect spice level. For our mains, we got the Ruby Chicken and House Black Dal with garlic naan, chili paratha, and a side of plain rice. The Ruby Chicken had a delicious tomato gravy, and the chicken pieces were really soft. The dal was thick and creamy. Everything paired together so well. Beyond the food, the restaurant itself was beautiful, with a Bombay-inspired atmosphere. There's seating both upstairs and downstairs, and while we didn't have any issues, I've heard there can be long wait times. Our server was friendly, although the service felt a little sloppy at times. They also surprised us with complimentary champagne since we were celebrating a special occasion, which was really nice. I found the portions to be a little smaller, and it's definitely on the pricier side, but I think it's worth the splurge. If you're visiting the UK, I'd definitely recommend checking out Dishoom!

And the service is attentive. It's a beautiful thing to witness, even better to experience. My Negroni order was sent to the bar while my server and I chatted about what I might like. So efficient. I ended up ordering a couple of small plates. A spicy lamb dish and a hot/cold combo of yogurt and mashed hot veggies. Rather quickly my drink was served and a short while later my food appeared. Those small plates were not so small! Loads of food for one, perfect starters for two. Finished with a house chai - delicious!
