Once we got to the front of the hostess stand they asked for ID's, so I pulled my Real ID out. They see my friend's ID & kept mine for a little. Amaya, asked a customer if he thought my real ID was real or fake the customer walked away and she gave me my id back. we waited for another 5-8 min hoping to get in before the half time show and we didn't, we didn't mind since we could see it from outside. My friend asked if anything was wrong and if we could go in & Amaya said "they think her ID is fake" "her" according to mine. I said nicely, you can check the DMV website & see that my real ID is one of the newest one. I just got mine at the end of last year. She takes my ID again & finally asks the security guard if i'm able to come in or not. He proceeds to say "you guys can't be doing this", what I got from that is that this wasn't a first time occurrence. read more

Two recent experiences rubbed me the wrong way: At the bar, they just flip the card reader around with the total. There's no way to review the itemized bill before signing, so I only found out afterward that instead of the $16 Wednesday burger-and-beer special, I was charged $28. On the payment screen, the first option is a 30% tip, with amounts listed in descending order. This is a great place to go for a casual delish meal with a group of friends. You order and pay at the bar. The food is excellent and comes out quickly. They have a great mix of salads and BBQ. I had the Chick sandwich and it was super tasty. The coleslaw was my favorite. The outdoor seating is lovely on a warm sunny day but they also have propane heaters for a chilly evening. Came here last night 12/03 for their weekly Tacos and Trivia night. FIVE OF FIVE STARS. If Yelp gave a six-star option I'd click that. The food was divine! I haven't had tri-tip that flavorful and tender in twenty years...and I grew up on a cattle ranch in Montana. The service was impeccable. Chad is the type of professional and attentive server of which all other servers are judged. I just can't say enough positive things about Park 101. Oh and the Trivia night was a blast! The host was smart and funny (also handsome) and really puts on a show. His questions and content are like no other trivia game in America. A+ Highly recommend. After watching an amazing sunset, we walked in to town to find something to eat. I'd been here before but just for a beer. After reviewing the (fairly limited) menu, we were seated at a picnic table. You have to walk up to the counter or bar to order, which I knew but they probably should have mentioned. Many of the drinks on the menu sounded kind of crazy - especially the "Elvis", which I couldn't get any of my table mates to try so I could try a taste. I had a "New Fashioned" which was very good, and later a hazy ipa which was also good. I'm a meat eater, but I wasn't feeling it so instead I had the Vibe Bowl. Every time I come in town to visit friends we end up here on a night out. We love the outdoor ambiance that is beautiful year round. Spent New Years Eve here and had the best time. There was lights and a DJ and the countdown on all the screens. They are always busy and bustling on the usual nights out. Often times it's hard to get a seat as it's so busy. Drinks are definitely on the pricier side, so we mostly get pitchers to share. Overall nice servers and a fun joint to hang with friends. read more

As someone who knows the hospitality industry well, I've given Park 101 more than a fair shot--visiting multiple times in hopes things would improve. Unfortunately, the experience has consistently been disappointing. During our most recent visit: * One person in our group potentially experienced food poisoning afterward. * Drink ticket times were over 15 minutes, which is unacceptable for a casual spot like this. * Two out of four food orders were incorrect. * A drink was spilled, and the server simply walked away without offering help, a towel, or even acknowledgment. * The quality of food and service continues to decline, with little regard for accuracy, timing, or guest care. Management feels checked out, and the warped blue plastic on the tabletops (damaged from sun exposure) is just another detail that reflects the lack of attention and pride in the experience. This venue has so much potential--a great location, fun outdoor setup--but they're falling flat on their faces over and over again. Came in with a group of 5, at about 10:30 for the Bills party and beyond. Continued our stay for the afternoon games, ordered more drinks and appetizers and a couple meals throughout. We saw some guests with shaved ice but didn't see it on the menu, so a couple people in our group decided to go get shaved ice and come back and continue eating and drinking. The security worker stopped us and told us no outside food or beverage. I tried to explain to him that we've been there for a few hours already and asked if we could just sit with the rest of our party and he said if we throw away our full shaved ice. I understand an outside food and beverage policy, but I expect some leniency in the customer service industry, or at the very least a little courtesy from the security guy. Drinks are kinda expensive and it's very loud. You were able to bring your children and dogs however it does get super crowded on game days. It's close to the shore so it makes a popular location to watch the game and chill at picnic tables and benches. I've never been to the upstairs portion so can't speak on that. It's been a while since I posted my first review, so I thought I would provide an update. I've been coming in pretty frequently lately and usually always order the same things. Pulled pork and Brisket are my go-to's. This last visit when i was browsing the menu, The Hot Chick really caught my eye and I thought what the heck, I'll give it a try! I got the chicken fried and let me tell you; this was a pretty damn good sandwich! I really enjoyed it! The chicken was cooked perfectly and I love me some spicy sauce. I took the opportunity to go and hangout at Park 101. This place is very chilled and laid back from when they open until the early evening hours. Unless there is an afternoon Padres baseball game going on. But that doesn't happen too much unless you follow the schedule. But other than the Padres Baseballs games they would have other baseball games showing, or other sport games on. They have an upstairs area that they open up when the place gets really busy in the evenings. They have activities and deals but you have to go to their website to see if there is anything that peaks your interests. At the time I went I had to place my order with the bartender which I did not mind. I ordered the Surf n Turf Fries and they were delicious. If you are not a big fan of crowds then I suggest going when they open up to about 4pm. They are pet friendly but must be kept on their leashes at all times. If you don't like what they have on their menu they also have a stand connected to them called The Trap Shack. I never leave bad reviews, but when I do, it is completely justified. We came here on superbowl day, and the hostess "Amaya", is the sole reason for this review. Not only is she rude and classless, she is undoubtedly racist. We were stopped in line to have our IDs checked, and one of our friends who is OLDER THAN ALL OF US, was stopped and questioned because she had the new real ID/DL. It did look different, but she decided to call 40 people over because she said "i think it's fake". First of all, your managers don't train you when new ID's are released and what to look for? The place we went to down the street confirmed for us that EVERY restaurant must be trained on recognizing new IDs to avoid these issues. She made us wait in line, we missed the show which was the reason we really came to the place. She called over a CUSTOMER to come check out the ID...not her manager...a CUSTOMER. She kept letting random men in (whom were all white) even though they were NOT in line, they kept saying "oh, we were with so and so", and she wouldn't question it and just let them in. Last time I worked at a bar, that was all BS, and we knew it. Of course, having 4 WOC at the front waiting to get in was not allowed because of a "fake ID", and instead, every white man was let in. A waitress came to get us to take us upstairs but did say "You wont be able to see any of the show". We decided to stay in line for the show and go up after. COME TO FIND OUT -- there were 5 TVs upstairs!!! What is it with this place and their lies? Anything to take away the experience from POC. This year's halftime show really got on their nerves, huh? She called over the security guard to check our ID, and he said "You can't be doing this sh*t". Probably because he knew how idiotic she seemed and lacked brain cells for not knowing what the new IDs looked like (my friend also had the DMV app pulled out to show her), and the fact that she was holding us up for SO LONG. We could have gotten in so much earlier, had a better spot, but we were purposely held in line for a "fake", while instead of calling over the MOD, she decides to dance around, talk to any guy she let in, anyone who came downstairs, roll her eyes at us, ignore us in general. People in LINE were telling us how f'ed up it was and clearly rascially motivated it was because of how Amaya and the others were treating everyone else who didn't look like us...We were poise, just decided to enjoy the music when it was on. Btw, once we went upstairs and saw the TVs, were were perplexed. No one approached us for 20 minutes to get our order. Not only were we disres , we were discrimminated against and presented with trashy, inappropriate and classless behavior. If we were the only ones that noticed it, sure, maybe say we 'read it wrong'. But if it was MULTIPLE people telling us "no, we see how she's treating you" INCLUDING OTHER SERVERS AT NEIGHBORING RESTAURANTS-- you know there's a deep moral issue. It's always good to spend day and evening by the ocean. Carlsbad is one of my favourite places to do so. After exciting beach day, I always like to relax at Park 101. This restaurant and bar has it all. It's located in the heart of Carlsbad Village and within few minutes walk from the ocean front. You can come here with family or group of friends. The ground floor area has plenty of seats, some with nice fire places. This is ideal spot as it's right next to their kitchen area. They offer selection of plats with some good meats. Opposite the kitchen, there is fully stocked bar so you won't run out of drinks. There is also top floor bar (age allowed 21+) which is my favourite spot. You get good views from here overlooking the Carlsbad Main Street. There is enough space to accommodate big party. This bar has good selection of beers and also dedicated stand for live DJ. Park 101 made for a perfect destination on a Friday night for a bunch of Phoenix families to meet up before kicking off our soccer tournament the next day... We were able to get a reserved area on their kid and pet friendly patio, which worked out well. Park 101 is conveniently located in Carlsbad Village, and it makes for a fun scene, although it's a bit hectic with food and drink ordering happening in different places and a lot going on all around. Also, I believe they are in the process of getting a liquor license, so the cocktails on the menu are currently made with wine based liquor, which I was not a huge fan of. In other words, I'd recommend sticking to beer or wine until they offer a full bar! Park 101's food was fine... Our group tasted a variety of tacos, lobster rolls, ribs and more, and the kids mostly had chicken nuggets and fries. This does make for a great place to meet up with a group of people and it's a fun scene, but don't go in with super high expectations otherwise. I'd definitely return with the same expectations in the future - perhaps once they get their liquor license and we get through this pandemic, it will be even better! read more

We have been watching this place change owners and styles over the years. We opted to try it on aSunday afternoon. It was not too busy but there was a steady flow of patrons after we were seated. We were seated by a hostess who stated they were changing their "dining format", however she never really explained the difference between bar and restaurant service. There is no obvious line of demarcation. Between bar and restaurant since most of the building is outside. After waiting for over 15 minutes and still not greeted by waitstaff, we ordered ourselves at the bar. We got a number and waited. We ordered a breakfast sandwhich and a breakfast burrito. After 45 minutes the food arrived. My burrito came without any of the salsas and side items as referenced in the menu. After getting items from a manager ( who was quite polite), I was able to eat. The tri-tip burrito was excellent but ai did not really think waiting 45 minutes was acceptable. . I would try it again, but they really need to be more communicative on what the seating and dining options are. read more
