He does such unprofessional work that it doesn't match what he charges, he subcontracts to third parties whom he doesn't pay, and he's such a rude person that you wouldn't believe it when you see him. I have recordings of what this uneducated and uncivilized human being is really like. Obviously, you hire them through the company, but the actual work is done by a smaller company that, of course, charges less. This is a large-scale pyramid scheme. read more

Our company performed a painting job for Pro-Painters at a condominium on June 26; we had verbally agreed upon all the details regarding the work and payment. The verbally agreed-upon payment was $1,800, even though the project was actually valued at $6,500; Derek specifically wrote in a text message: "Don't be surprised by this job--I didn't even want to do it myself--but it's a job for a good client of mine." I made it clear to him that the payment for the job was very low considering everything it required, but I accepted it in order to start working with him. Here are the details of the repairs that were verbally agreed upon: Bathroom: - Skim coat the most damaged areas of the walls and ceiling and apply new texture to cover specific areas with significant damage. Hallway: - Repair hallway wall with new texture to match the existing wall Painting: - Paint the entire apartment using 3 different colors Kitchen: - Paint all cabinets without removing or covering the hinges On the first day of work, I noticed several large holes in the walls and ceilings of the bathroom, hallway, and bedroom closet--repairs that hadn't been part of the previously agreed-upon budget--yet I fixed them at no extra charge. That same day, Derek asked me to remove a section of the dining room ceiling that had a popcorn texture. I took the initiative to fix that area as well, and once again, I agreed to do it at no additional cost. On the second day, he came back asking to have the cabinet hinges removed, the holes filled, and the hinge areas sanded and painted, claiming his client had just requested it. The cabinets had already been painted on the first day, so I refused to do this extra work--especially since Derek was unwilling to pay for it, as it hadn't been part of our verbal agreement. He became angry and lashed out at me, raising his voice and speaking in a very rude and racist manner--completely disregarding the fact that I am a woman and had never disrespected him--to the point where I felt genuinely unsafe. Given his behavior and the fact that he is a man, one of the guys on our team stepped in; he asked him to show some respect and stop his disrespectful, rude, and racist behavior toward me. Before leaving, he made a highly sarcastic comment, nastily remarking that the job would have taken only three minutes to do. He made this comment in front of the workers, and it was a huge insult, as I am certainly not someone who exploits people. He then returned with his tools, interfered with my work, and started removing the cabinet doors--a process of simply removing the hinges that ended up taking him over an hour. All this work was completed in two days, with shifts exceeding ten hours per day. Following the final inspection, minor paint touch-ups were performed on the walls. Once again, it was verbally agreed that the payment would be $1,800. He requested that the job be done quickly--since it would only take two to three days--and stated that, based on his "experience," the work could be carried out by one or two people. The job was finished on schedule, yet I only received $1,500; he claims the work wasn't completed and the bathroom was never fixed. I have before-and-after photos proving that everything agreed upon was actually done. I am writing this review to warn others to be very careful with this individual and his company, Pro-Painters. Don't make the huge mistake I did by accepting a poorly paid job. Also, be aware that he doesn't provide any documentation recording the agreements. Fortunately, I have everything documented in text messages, because I am not going to stay silent. I have already spoken to my lawyer, and this case--involving exploitation, racism, and non-payment--will not go unchallenged. I would steer FAR away from this company. The owner is very dishonest and will quote you one thing and then charge you an astronomical amount after they have started the work. The color he painted my house versus the color I wanted are 2 different things. The color he painted the shutters versus the color I wanted are 2 different things. I was very specific and gave him the swatches when he was at my home. I brought this to his attention and instead he tried to gaslight me and tell me I was wrong and I approved another color. This is not the case and he was given the swatches I approved. I kept a copy. After they had finished the job there were spots missing due to the tape being pulled when it was supposed to be pulled earlier in the drying process. We let Derek know that we were going out of town before the work had ever started. He knew we were out of town and sent his painter to our home unbenounced to us. The painter entered our home illegally and our alarm went off and the police showed up. I did not press charges as I should. After he finished for the day, while we were out of town, he demanded we pay the invoice before we could even inspect the work. Per his contract, he is required to do a final walkthrough and he never scheduled that with us. When we arrived home, we were disappointed that several areas were missed and the work was mediocre at best. We let him know the issues and he had his subcontractor show up again, unbeknownst to us at 7pm at night, when I was trying to bathe my baby and toddler and get them in bed. The subcontractor doesn't know English. When he was finished, he stated "I done" and left. Apparently Derek constitutes that as a final walkthrough. I thought he was going to come and do a final walkthrough so we could go over everything (per his contract) and he didn't. Instead he sent gaslighting, book pages of text, had his attorney contact us, and put a lien on our house. There were several spots that were missed. There is still a huge spillage of paint on our patio and paint spots that are still missing, but we are tired of dealing with him and now we have a lien on our house for subpar work. He illegally recorded my husband on our private property without his permission. It seems as though this contractor is desperate for money and doesn't care about quality. What is sad is that the subcontractor told my contractor that this guy had paid him only $1500 to paint our entire house. He also had to purchase his own supplies. Our invoice is over $5k, when we were originally quoted 3k for everything. He charged us extra for the shutters, because he claimed he missed the shutters on our main floor. We only have the shutters in the front and I was very specific that I wanted our shutters painted. Finally, Derek wanted us to mail a check to his attorney. I have asked several times for a mailing address and who to address the check to with no avail. There have been other complaints for this company on BBB that state they had to hire someone else to fix the mess, because Derek doesn't care about the quality. It is also very unprofessional to just show up to a client's home without scheduling an appointment. It is also very unprofessional to text a client at 10pm at night demanding a payment when I was literally out of town and he knew that. Needless to say, save yourself a lot of trouble and DO NOT hire this company! You will thank me. read more

Unfortunately this company and the owner Derek make promises they can't live up to leading to, promising they have the best contractors and it was one of the worst experiences I have ever had with drywall and painting. I was told his guy could hang drywall and was the best painter. I mentioned several times to the owner that myself and my hired handyman had to help the Pro Painters employee do his job and that he needed help but the owner would not send help. This man did not know how to hang drywall. I mentioned my dissatisfaction with the job being done but no adjustments were made. There was a lot of back peddling by the owner not accepting responsibility for the poor workmanship being done and instead making it out to be my fault. There were drips on the painted walk-in multiple places, thin paint on every wall and ceiling, tape is still revealed on drywall seems, was told he could wet sand but either he could not or would not, little to no prep work to make wall look smooth and have tight lines, was told there were two coats on everything but it was clear there was only one. Was told the ceiling was painted but it was not as it was a slightly diff color white I could see the lines where the painter decided to stop painting. This horrible result of a job took 2.5 weeks! I was so frustrated by the end of the job I paid my handyman and worked myself for two weeks to make the finished job look like it was done professionally and I wanted nothing to do with this company or any help offered after two weeks of fighting to get the job done right and hearing two weeks worth of excuses.
