Company is the worst with keeping appointments and returning calls. There is always an excuse of not being able to connect remotely or being out/runnings errands with a promise to call back in 20 minutes. It never happens. We hired this company to repoint our chimney which is supposed to last 20-25 years. From the ground, it appeared that they did the job. When I bought a commercial drone for my business, I decided to inspect my roof when I noticed something seemed off about the chimney. Taking a closer look, I could see the company skipped a large portion of the job and did sloppy work with the rest on any part not visible from the ground. When my wife sent photos of their mess to the company, they said that this part of the chimney weathered faster because it was in the shade (in defiance of physics). After numerous text messages, they reluctantly agreed to come "look" at it, but only on a Tuesday. This, of coarse, was when I was not available. After months of scheduling issues, for which they blame us, they failed to show up on their appointed day. Which brings us up to date. My original appointment for a chimney inspection was made for November 12th, and when I called to confirm (due to poor weather conditions) I was put on hold and then told I was mistaken and that my appointment was on the 17th. I waited on the 17th for my time slot and when no one came or called, I called to ask if someone was coming. I was met with confusion and no knowledge of my scheduled appointment. When someone called me back 3 hours later, they said I was mistaken AGAIN and my appointment was the 24th. I refused service and declined any further appointments. Looking through yelp it seems I'm not the first person this has happened to! While leaving a review on another platform, the owner responded and made it seem that it was my fault for not keeping track of my appointments. I'd like to add that I have NOT had any problems whatsoever since the work was performed and again I have referred some other neighbors. **** Simply the best. The owner himself came and inspected my chimney. Now keep in mind I already knew what was wrong - he gave me the exact same diagnosis and quoted me a very reasonable price. A few days later after materials came in they completely fixed and installed a new chimney and caps. Not only was I impressed with their ability to keep scheduling but the work is absolutely perfect. If I could give these guys a -10 I would this is the third year of use them only because I couldn't get anybody else to come. The annual price increase over the last 3 years has been ridiculous for a job that literally takes him less than 10 minutes. Then he asks me to use my bathroom I would usually say no but I felt sorry for him. Left the floor absolutely filthy then use is a brand new hand towel and let that dirtier than the floor. I'm reading some pretty negative reviews here- and I have to say- my entire experience with this company was excellent from start to finish. I needed a chimney sweep for a township inspection. Of 3 companies I called, Pro-Tech was the only one who answered the phone. The young lady who took my information was very sweet and she scheduled me for 10am-1pm on a Friday afternoon. The girl at the office called me at 8:30am to tell me that they were going to be arriving right at 10am. They actually arrived early and got to work right away. It was a really nasty day. Freezing cold and raining. The two guys both took off their shoes and put a drop cloth around the fireplace to prevent the new carpet from getting dirty. After inspecting the chimney from the rooftop, they did advise me that the "crown" needed to be replaced for good measure. I was only planning on spending $129 so I told him that I didn't have the cash to do that and he offered to do a split cash/credit card payment. In the end, he even sent me a photo from the roof. As you can see, the new crown looks great and in much better condition than my neighbors which is next to it. Another company based out of Haddonfield (I think it was called Jack's) called me after I already scheduled my appointment with Pro-Tech and he was really nice until I told him I am using another company. Told me "good luck" and hung up on me. Between him and the other people writing really absurdly negative reviews I was not looking forward to this. I don't know the name of the girl at the office- but I think the two guys who did the job were Rob and Jake. They were really efficient and professional. Then became very indignant with me when I declined the work. I asked him to proceed with the sweeping only,. He was sure to put on the receipt "failed inspection". We used them for a chimney repair they were great! Called again to have my 2 gas fireplaces ready for winter. What a nightmare!! The girl who made the appointment quoted a price, when the Tech got here the prices increased. We were told the fireplaces would be cleaned and inspected and the remotes would be checked. The tech advised he could not start the fireplaces I needed to call a plumber!! How did you inspect gas fireplaces when they aren't on? He couldn't do the remote!! Pro-Tech Chimney stated "Your chimney was in adequate shape and required minimal cleaning however as you state we did dispose of the ash from the hearth area to complete our efficient cleaning offering" You're going to tell me that cleaning ash out of the chimney hearth is considered a full service cleaning of a chimney? I paid to have the ENTIRE chimney cleaned, which means the excess soot on all the walls from top to bottom and they use brooms to perform this work. Bought a 12-Point Chimney Inspection and Cleaning. They came out and told me that I need a new Flume and could not clean the chimney unless I had them install the new flume ($550). I was not prepared for that and wanted a second opinion. Went to a firelplace store and they told me they do the same service, I asked if it was true that you cannot clean without replacing flume and they said totally untrue. They could have easily cleaned the chimney and highlighted that I needed a new Flume, if in fact that is the case. Said it sounded like a scam and said they should have at least honored the cleaning...so I paid for a cleaning (which hasn't happened) and got an estimate for more work. I had Pro-Tech out today for a chimney cleaning and they literally were here for 10 minutes, Yes, 10 minutes. As soon as they got out of the truck, they told me the cost and asked how I was paying. They came inside and took a brush and supposedly went to the top of the chimney and that was it. Did not seem thorough at all. $140 and no camera view of the chimney, just bang bang, in and out as quickly as possibly to get to the next stop. I really tried to give this company more then a chance to fix my chimney. Our mess started last spring/summer. We had a leaky Chimney, so we called Pro-Tech. The guy came out and was really nice and told us we needed a 2nd damper cause for some reason our chimney had 2 flues. So he showed us and added the 2nd damper and did some other minor patching and said that should stop the leaking, we paid the man(Dampers are not cheap) and that was that. Well a few months later we are leaking again, this time worse. I call and schedule a time for a Saturday morning, 10-1 time slot. Well, 10 - 1 comes and goes and despite me calling the 24/7 emergency line, I get no one or any calls regarding my missed appointment. Finally, around 4:30, I get a call from a man who says he will do his best to be there within the next hour if he can and that he was WAY over booked and that I would either have to wait or not. So we cancelled our plans and we wait, cause I don't want a leaky chimney. Around 6:30 they finally show up complaining how they are so over booked and they are sorry but they haven't even seen their families and all they do is work work work. They go on to say how the 1st guy should have done this and that and he was fired and they will fix it. Ok. They were nice and said they see the problem, despite it being pitch black outside by now, and that they have fixed it. Ok great! NOT GREAT! The next major rain, we are leaking WORSE then the first 2 times. So we call, explain the situation and I ask if the owner can come out to see what is going on. I get told not a problem, that won't be an issue and I make the appointment. 2 very nice guys come and go on to say how this and that should have been done and that the other damper, not the one they put in, but the OTHER damper, is not that great BUT that they see the problem. They also go on to say the previous people didn't do their job right etc, etc, etc. At no time does either one identify themselves as the owner. They do what they need to do and go. WELL, I NOW HAVE A WATERFALL IN MY CHIMNEY EVERY TIME IT RAINS!. Full on pouring in. I called and asked for the owner. I asked if he could come out on a Saturday, he said NO!. Flat out NO! I explained the above and told him I leave early in the morning for work and get home late and would like to now go up on the roof and see what is going on. He told me he does not work on Saturdays and that his father is sick and in less I wanted him to wheel his sick father to my house, Saturdays are out of the questions. I said that I was sorry his dad was sick but maybe we could do early Saturday so that he could still spend time with his sick father and he told me NO! So I finally cut ties with this company. I called after seeing an ad in my local clipper magazine...it advertised ANY CHIMNEY CLEANING for $45.00. prior to arriving at my Mom's house the tech called me and let me know where he was and the approximate time that he would be at her house. I inquired as if they accepted credit cards, his answer to me was that yes they did but there would be an additional charge for using a credit card and if I paid in cash that the stated price of $45.00 could be lower...Upon arrival at my Mom's house he had a problem...He said that because it was a wood burning stove the price would not be $45.00 but $125.00. We declined their service as this is a clear bait and switch situation. I would not ever use their service because of the 'seediness' of the tech...All I can say is buyer beware... read more

Avoid Pro-Tech Chimney! Prior to buying a duplex, Pro-Tech Chimney was used by the sellers to repair and certify the chimney. They spent over $2000 for the work. It came with a transferable warranty. Waterproofing was included on the paperwork. On March 31st the chimney had water pouring down. I called and left a message. My call was returned within minutes. The woman was very helpful and confirmed that waterproofing was covered and that they'd be out to fix the problem once the rain let up. She explained the need for everything to be dry and that there may be a delay due to April showers. We scheduled a tentative date. She told me a technician would call the night before to confirm or cancel depending on the weather. The technician didn't call until 1 1/2 hours after the appointment time to cancel. He also explained the need for dry day, and said someone from office would call today to reschedule. Nobody called. The next day, I called left a message, no return call. It was going to rain for several days, so figured they were just waiting until weather cleared. 5 days later still no call, so called and left another message, then the same the day after that, with no return call. My husband called later that day, and got an answer first try. He set up an appointment for Thursday. The technicians get to house and begin by telling my daughter it was just due to the nor'easter and everybody gets leaks when we have that kind of weather. She explained, that it continued to leak on days with light rain as well. He then tells my husband that it would need to be waterproofed and have new flashing installed for $600. He said the initial job was for the liner and waterproofing was not done. I have my husband pull up and show the technician the paperwork and warranty info including waterproofing. He then back pedals and said he would reapply the solution but would still charge $300 for flashing. We thought that the waterproofing warranty meant they made sure all areas for water intrusion were covered, so we decline that and he only applied the waterproofing solution at this time. When he was done, and gave me the new paperwork, I confronted him on the situation. He said "I was here for the initial job, it was to install the liner, not for leaks." I told him it was certified to be in good working order and you tried to get over on us about the waterproofing! He said "I was doing the liner someone else did the waterproofing, so I forgot it was done, you would have been reimbursed." I feel like this company is shady! Once they realized they weren't going to make money on the call, they wouldn't return phone messages. Then they felt since we didn't pay for nor request the initial work, that we would be clueless as to what was done! I would think the scope of the job and what was covered would have been part of the new job order, regardless if he "forgot" what was done previously. I put two calls in to the office to give them a chance to rectify the customer service issues, they still have not returned my calls! read more

The crew showed up 1 hour later then my scheduled time and told me a written estimate would cost $89. When I told them don't do the estimate because that price is insane and I was told over the phone when scheduling the appointment that it would be free they told me the sweeping (not cleaning) is now $129 because I refused the $129 sweep charge and the $89 estimate charge. This company is very unprofessional and a complete joke. This company is a scam. They send 2 kids to my house to "Clean" my chimney. I should have known that a 45$ chimney cleaning advertisement in the value pack was a sham. They supposedly cleaned my chimney in less than 5 minutes. My wife was home with our baby and was not able to inspect the chimney after they were done. When I got home I found that the chimney did not look like it was touched. I called and complained and was told they would pull my paperwork and call me back but they never did. They also tried to get my wife to agree to a 1400$ chimney chase cover. When she asked them to take the dimensions and she would check with me later to see if I wanted to do it they said no and they would only take the dimensions if they were doing the job. They also said they would need 400$ up front and if we wrote a check to cash we wouldn't have to pay tax. Very shady company. read more

I don't like to bash anyone but feel that I need to let the world know this story. I had a groupon to clean and give me a 12-point inspection on my chimney for $45. the men came and told me that my damper needed to be replaced. I advised that I'm converting to a gas fireplace and don't think that is necessary because it will be in a stationary position once the plumbers get here. He said it would need to be replaced and it would cost over $500 to do that plus my chimney was cracking and needed to be resealed....another $150. I called my guy who I'm buying the gas logs from and he spoke directly to them. He then said to me they were conning me and not to replace the damper. My fireplace man said it would only cost maybe $75 but the guy was telling him on one hand it was broken which it is not and that it's warped. The damper is cast iron! My guy sent his men over to deliver my logs and take a look. His men said the damper was absolutely fine but wasn't clean. Now I wait for them to come back to reclean the damper. They said they would be here from 10-1. It is now 1:30 and they are still not here. I would never trust these guys again after this. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THESE RIPOFF ARTISTS! I called them for a simple chimney cleaning. Within 60 seconds they said my damper was broken and an immediate fire hazard. They wanted $600 and said it failed the code and would burn the house down if we ever lit another fire before they fixed it. I thought this was suspicious and so I checked online and found dozens of terrible customer reviews syaing they had been ripped off by Pro-Tech Chimney. I told the guys I didn't want them to do anything, just go away. But they claimed they had already cleaned the chimney and I must pay for it. Really? I had only been gone less than 5 minutes to check their reviews! So I paid them for the cleaning and they were very rude about my daring to check their reviews. In the days afterwards, I couldn't understand why we kept getting water in our fireplace, and birds in the chimney. Last week, I called a local chimney contractor. He found that Pro-Tech had 1) Left the cap off the top of the chimney, just sitting on the roof, and 2) had never cleaned the chimney after all. It was covered in soot! I called pro-Tech today and the woman refused to give me the owner's name and when I said I was calling to report their fraudulent business practices, she hung up on me. Run away! They use gray rubberized caulk for brick mortar pointing. They use black tar, like they use on trailer park roofs, for flashing repair. They say gray is the normal color of mortar and my existing tan off white cement colored mortar is dirty. They said with some bleach and pressure washing it will look just like the gray caulking they used. Now I have a two toned chimney with black stuff slathered all over the bricks. The caulking also smeared onto the bricks and I don't think that is coming off either. They caused more damage than the repair and it will cost me money to fix their mistake. That is because they never offered to correct it or any mention of any refund. I received two quotes for my chimney brick pointing and went with Pro-Tech. They showed up and said they would get right to work. Came out when they were most of the way through to see a guy on a ladder with a caulking gun. That is handy man work not brick professionals. I could have done that, I have a ladder and a caulking gun. I actually tried in the past using mortar caulk from home depot and it was such a darker color than the tan mortar that I didn't use it. Mortar repair means you remove damaged mortar with a diamond bit blade, mix the mortar, put it in a bag, and squeeze it in-between the bricks. You then use a tool called a tuck pointer. I asked for the exact product name in the caulking tube and they would not tell me. I asked about the dark gray color a number of times and he said "when it dries it may even be lighter than your current mortar and you will have to clean that to match it". Well it dried and it was still dark gray. Called the manager Mike and he said that gray is the actual color of mortar and mine was just dirty. I need to scrub it with 50% or 100% bleach and pressure wash it. I did both and guess what, my existing light colored mortar was even lighter after that and no where near the darker gray. I took pictures of everything and even have recordings of our conversations. I will be going to either small claims court or filing a homeowners claims with my insurance company. Then be paid by insurance and they can purse Pro-Tech through what is called subrogation. I know this because that is what I've done for a living the past 20 years and work for the worlds largest insurance company subrogating homeowners and auto claims with use of our network of attorneys. read more
