My review is in regards to the childcare center. Let me elaborate on our overwhelmingly positive…read moreexperiences with JCC through a nearly 4 year history from Toddler Town to the LWCA. We had to leave JCC due to changing family needs but otherwise would have stayed. In my opinion, it is without a doubt the highest level of childcare offered in Bayonne. We have witnessed gradual improvements year after year through better and cleaner facilities, onsite activities for parents, and most importantly a loyal group of exceptional teachers. In my opinion, to gauge the level of care at a daycare you should look no further than the child! We have witnessed wonderful growth both socially and academically. Many of the negative reviews appear to be originating from disgruntled parents with axes to grind. One review mentions the school will be closing due to low enrollment; yet there is a waiting list for most of the programs? It appears there is a jealousy factor at play so I would caution any parent from deciding against JCC based on yelp reviews. Go take a tour and see for yourself! Dr Goldberg runs the operation and is not heavily involved in the day-to-day as she doesn't need to be. Over the years there were multiple incidents that required a voice of leadership and Dr Goldberg proved her ability to step up when needed. Over the four years there were a few instances where we needed to speak directly with Dr Goldberg and found her door was always open for parents. There are so many great memories but here are a few... The Halloween parade is a wonderful event run by the staff. The summer camp curriculum is full of daily adventures and outdoor activities. We were newcomers to Bayonne when we started at JCC and have made tons of friends over the years. It's a great environment and I have nothing but positive things to say about our experiences at JCC. JCC shines with its loving and nurturing staff which allows a child to grow happily in a safe environment. Thanks for everything!

Unfortunately, you do not get what you pay for here…read more It depends on your caretaker. Many "teachers" are not qualified- meaning they do not have teaching degrees to teach young children. It should be called a daycare, not an "Academy". Very expensive too. Some caregivers are good, but others not so much. Aside from this, most caregivers are very young and complain about the children. It seems very nice and clean, but its all show - no substance. We are no longer there after 3 years of mediocre care. We stayed because I work and needed the longer hours. I cannot justify keeping my kids there with all that went on. Teachers are texting while kids are upset. High turnover in Directors and staff. The only person who has been there for a long time is "Dr Goldberg", she is not a Doctor in Childcare, but she received her Doctorate in Pharmacy. Be aware that Dr. Goldberg and some teachers are concerned and they have complained to parents about the enrollment being low this year and that they might need to close down. I recommend looking at the reviews not recommended too. The review about the pedo phile sting on NJ.com is someone working there was caught up in the sting. It was so disappointing to us. I also found out from someone else. Why did the JCC not tell us? The NJ . com article is from Dec 2, 2017. A Bayonne person who worked there had initials. "W. E." . State investigators were called in. A bad experience for everyone involved. I cannot at this time recommend at all.

To ALL parents, stay far away from this place…read more The teachers and teachers assistants in the actual classrooms are lovable, caring and easy to speak with. However upper management including directors and finance directors are crooks and the place itself extremely overpriced for a run down and dated facility . Upper management (women in the office) are rude, uneducated and extremely unreasonable, They are all about the money and not there for the benefit of the children/parents, Not to mention the facility needs some updating, dingy dirty walls, hallways and bathrooms. This place should be a state of the art facility based on how they rob the parents. I am very unhappy with this place and extremely applaud by Sophie's (Finance director) treatment towards me, a single mother of 2 when I expressed a cancellation of a summer camp application. Yes I understand policy, yes I understand protocol, however that does not give you the right to yell at a LOYAL, PAYING PARENT. It was unacceptable and I urge all parent to look else where. Do not deal with these money hungry, extremely unreasonable, uneducated, rude ladies. Stay far away!

Bayonne, New Jersey…read more My experiences working here were pretty despicable, and I took for granted the importance of working in a stable working environment. The secretary who called me in was one person, then when I came in for a position, it was a completely different person who worked for a short while, then abruptly left. The second person that left for good was given very little acknowledgment by the director of this center, just simply said that they were probably at home, even though all of our paperwork was due to this person on a regular basis. Speaking of paperwork...the director said that she completely misplaced it, and it contained all of my personal information and banking info on it. As another reviewer wrote, picking up the phone was a real issue for this director, and there were times when it was nearly impossible to contact her at all, and there was no secretary for what seemed to be a second time in a very short time period, with no notice of what had happened at all, or what the new protocol, if any, would be. As a teacher, I witnessed a teacher who had burst into tears because the director did not allow them to go home after a terrible gas leak/incident had occurred at their home. This was tragic as well because we were not allowed or permitted to have any phones with us in the classrooms or center at all, which, coupled with the fact that the director had a really hard time keeping a secretary and picking up the phones herself, created a horrifying situation for this teacher, who had a really hard time getting in touch with family during an emergency situation. If you are not a family member, or related to members of the staff, or large donors, the director will treat you differently and more harshly, mock and insult you at times, and you will be spoken to in a different manner, which is deplorable, and does not resemble Christian ideologies at all. Also, bribery runs rampant in this organization from the top down, as does suggestive posts from childcare staff, who are supposed to uphold higher standards as people who are in charge of the education of children! As another reviewer noted, I would not recommend working here, and I wish the remaining staff the best of luck when dealing with this directorship. I do not believe anyone would be able to work in an environment that is not stable as far as working conditions are concerned, but also one that is accusatory in nature, with no real communication, understanding, or fairness in place. When a teacher is hysterical crying because of a real emergency at home, and the person who is in charge does not permit them to go home to attend to matters, then that is when you know it is time to throw in the towel.

The school environment is unbelievably welcoming to both students and parents and we both felt at home there immediately. Parents are invited into the classroom (for entire class sessions!) regularly to share the school full experience with their children--there is absolutely nothing to hide at CHMS! The entire school is immaculate and gorgeous--classrooms are spacious with tons of natural light streaming in and they feature the children's artwork everywhere you turn. Also, the children have weekly yoga and music classes in addition to art! The teachers at Children's Harbor are all Montessori trained and go the extra mile on a daily basis; they do a wonderful job creating a child-centered atmosphere that really makes students look forward to each school day (even my daughter who was not at all the type to want to go to school in her two years of preschool before attending CHMS), and they individualize the work so that each child moves at his/her own pace and on the appropriate level. The students learn through play--just the way they should at this age. I truly feel that this makes the children really soar! My daughter's teacher takes her personality into account when working with her and this makes all the difference. My daughter didn't have much of an interest in letters at the start of the school year, but now she has mastered them and is reading and writing beautifully. I'm astounded! I really can't believe that she is getting a true Montessori education for FREE because they offer UPK (now known as "Pre-K for all"). I am a teacher and have taught UPK at both private and public schools and have worked at a local college as a supervisor of early childhood student teachers in many different pre-k classrooms. These experiences have allowed me the unique opportunity to gain an insider's perspective on pre-k, and I can honestly say from experience that Children's Harbor really stands out among Staten Island preschools. It's a bit of a drive for us, but I don't mind it all all because I am so confident that my daughter is getting the best pre-k education possible and that this experience will have long-term positive effects on her attitude toward education. Children's Harbor Montessori School is a true gem!

There were rare occasions that the teachers & owner seemed happy to be there. I found the school to be dark and dirty (especially in the classrooms and in the cubby area- lots of dust bunnies). There were a few things I was not impressed with - 1) Once I walked in and one teacher was changing a girl's diaper - wiping a girl from front to back, then back to front (anyone who has a girl knows this is a No-No) - this teacher has been there for years(so she should have known better). I spoke to another parent about it & she said her girl would get urinary tract infections frequently & that seemed to explain it. 2) They never take the kids out to play and they are not the most active types themselves (if you go there, you will see what I mean). This is unfortunate, because at that age chilren should be allowed out to enjoy the sunshine and exploring the world.. 3) The teachers seem to like to let the kids go play by themselves for a good portion of the day - I have popped by often to see and I have witnessed the teachers chatting by themselves very often (not too concerned with the kids). 4) Their toys look are old and need updating. 5) They do not keep their doors locked at all times- which was very disconcerting to me. 6) There is sometimes a very weird smell in some of the rooms. I was not impressed and if you are in the market for a daycare, I suggest you look around and then make your own decision. All of this is my opinion and my child is no longer there.
