Anyway, she somehow broke the molded piece where you insert your power cord. No idea how she did that, didn't even know it was something you could break, but there you are, it's The Queen. Anyway we took her computer in to Chat Tech Solutions to see if they could fix it, The office is small but so cute. Very open space and lots of natural light. The gentleman who was working there was very pleasant and offered us beverages while he assessed the damage to the computer. He called someone because he was not sure if the repair could be done and it turns out, they do not do that type of repair because it requires soldering. However he was kind enough to recommend another place of business, which is where we ended up going to get the repair done. For me that shows a wonderful regard for taking care of the customer, even though they did not make the sale. I will definitely consider them for other work that they can take care.

I bought it in and explained the issues. Three days later, they called me and said it was ready to pick up. When I brought it home, it worked like a gem. I can honestly say I've had no issues since that time. The work they did was amazing and they even threw in a free mouse at the time because they were worried the one sent to me by the manufacturer was adding to some problems. (Clearly it couldn't handle all the awesome I was churning out on it.) As a graduation present to myself I bought a Mac and sure enough, a mere week after I bought a new laptop my PC laptop died. Less than two years old and it was toast. (And this is exactly why once you go mac, you never go back.) One of the IT guys at my last job offered to fix it for me, but then I quit that job and felt awkward taking him up on his offer. So, no more PC for me. I was lucky that I had a brand new laptop so my PC dying wasn't the end of the world, but it had everything I did for my master's degree on there, except my capstone/thesis. No, I am not a total idiot and I DO use Dropbox, but all of my research filled it up so if it wasn't capstone related it got kicked out of my dropbox folder. Fast forward a year later, and it sat collecting dust. I kept meaning to try to fix it myself, but that never happened. It was also eating away at me that I lost *everything* I did in grad school, and considering I am actually using my degree it sucked not being able to go back and reference things I did. I kept weighing the cost of having it repaired vs. just letting it go, but one day I finally decided to take it in. I did a quick Yelp search for computer repair, and Techlife popped up first. I read the reviews about him being so amazing and the great prices, and I packed up my laptop and drove over there. I was actually expecting parking to be a nightmare given its proximity to Wrigley, but both times I came here it was super easy and I got rockstar parking right in front. I dropped it off and as promised, Jaime called me a few hours later with the diagnosis - my hard drive was bad. He could install a new one and attempt data recovery on my old one. This all went down on a Friday afternoon, and by Monday morning everything was done and... *drumroll please* By some miracle, he was able to recover EVERYTHING. It's all there, every last paper and important/sentimental photos that I forgot I had that I am SUPER happy he recovered. The best part is the price - it was so good! I got his amazing service, a new hard drive, Windows installed, data recovery, etc. for a price so low I was convinced he forgot to invoice me for something. Even the data recovery was cheap, though he did admit if he would have had to send it off it would have been hundreds of dollars. Jaime, you rock. BEWARE!!!!!! For…read moreanything but the most basic of compter repairs, I would steer clear of Northside Tech Support. I took my laptop to Northside because my laptop screen was flickering from time to time. Usually, I repair my computers myself but have been very busy with work and thought I would take it to "the professoinals" at Northside Tech Support so they could quickly make the necessary repairs and I could get back to work. Besides the flickering screen, my laptop had no other issues, was physically and mechanically in great shape and functioned near perfectly. Three weeks and a few days after I had dropped off my computer at Northside and many phone call later, I was told that a component of my computer "crumbled" as they took it apart and that I would be needing additional parts. This was cause for great concern but based on the reviews here on Yelp.com I had seen, I figured they guys must know what they are doing. Despite my growing concern, I decided I would continue to give them the chance to fix my computer. A week or so later, I received another phone call from them where they told me that they had to order some additional parts because their eBay parts supplier and they could not figure out which parts were the correct ones to fit my computer. eBay parts seller?? When asked, Northside told me they get all of their parts for their repairs from eBay, yikes!! Another week or ten days later, I called to inquire about the status of my repair. They told me they still had not figured it out. I asked that they put my machine back together and informed them that I would be picking it up and taking it to another repair facility. Kevin was very upset by this and told me that he "needed more time." I informed him that if he could not repair my computer in the just over four weeks he had it, he needed to give it back to me so I could have someone who knows what they are doing make the repairs. He exclaimed "you have not given me enough time!!" I could go on but after having tried to fix my computer for over a month, when I went to pick it up, my computer looked as if it had been dropped from a second story window. The outer case was cracked off and a "new" case with dents in it was my "new" cover (used part obtained form eBay), a key was broken off my keyboard and the keyboard itselft was no longer set into the computer, the computer would no longer turn on at all, and parts were and screws were missing. I had to look it over for a few minutes to try to ensure that it was even mine. I dropped of a good working computer with a flickering screen problem. Over four weeks later, I picked up a broken computer with missing parts that would no longer turn on or operate at all. I ended up having to purchase a new computer thanks to the fine handiwork of the "computer repair technicians" at Northside. They offered to pay me a nominal sum for the damage to my computer but what they gave me barely made a dent into what I had to spend for a new laptop. Like I said, if you need any type of computer repair besides the most basic of basic repair, steer far wide and exceedingly clear of this place as in my opinion and experience, they clearly do not know what they are doing.

Comcast had run new cable from the pole but when the problem continued, it became my fault, not theirs. I scrambled to find an independent IT contractor and after a few failed attempts, called Lebowitz IT Services. He ran a "ping test" diagnosis on my modem (which I lease from Comcast) and while the signal was strong, there were inconsistencies that could have been enough to interrupt my service. I then insisted Comcast send another tech and sure enough, that was the problem. They actually had to "dumb-down" my modem to an older model that was more tolerant of the inconstancies. A couple of computers had stopped talking to each other and passwords were messed up. I couldn't get the answers or solutions I needed from websites. I was frustrated. I had never used a consultant but Yelp directed me to Nestech Computers. I worked with Shawn of Nestech for an hour and a half. He remoted in to both my computers at the same time to see, test, diagnose, and adjust settings to success. He was knowledgeable and thorough in addressing my problems. He also cared about my whole network to add some extra network adjustments to improve its operation. I would use Nestech again. They left me with network nirvana, devices that all work together nicely.
