As a Buddhist of the Thai Theravada tradition, I was excited when I first thought I could attend…read moredharma talks by legit Thai monks here in CA. When I looked into visiting, it was quite odd to me that the website was asking me to pay to reserve a seat before ever even going. This struck me as odd. Only a bit of investigation was needed before I quickly learned this is a cult with tremendous wealth and power. Rather than accepting "Dana," a contribution made of generosity in Buddhism, where no one is turned away due to a lack of funds to meditate, they specifically charge and further proclaim, the more you donate, the 'better your merit. Be careful if you get involved with this group. They advocate for materialism and wealth, which is absolutely not in alignment with the ancient teachings of the Buddha. In fact, his views were *the very opposite*.

It left me feeling grounded, naturally elated, and connected. Loved the message that the monk gave where he emphasized on world peace through cultivating inner peace. Also, loved how he reminded us not to force our thoughts away, but to relax and release into the experience that arises. Thank you so much for such a blessing! Also, the grounds are beautiful! I enjoyed and loved walking in the garden! The staff was also nice and kind as well! 10/10 will come back again for another free collective meditation event!

He then told me I had to leave, and I explained that I was just looking for the park. I told him I would turn my car around. He then threatened me, saying that I couldn't turn around but had to BACK MY CAR ALL THE WAY DOWN THE HILL. He said if I turned my car around instead of backing up, that he would "close the gates on us" and trap us in. That's so ironic considering their "loving-kindness sign" posted right at the gate. (Also illegal!).

However, if you are looking for serenity and inspiration, then visit the Taiwan Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation in San Dimas. Thanks to the previous reviewer who mentioned about the unmarked road, I was able to find the place. It's beautifully located at the former campus of Cal Poly (before they moved to Pomona). All the buildings are hispanic and historic. This place does not have the typical buddhist temple architecture, but the essence of buddhism is all present. Stroll around the beautiful campus, take a 10 minute meditation in the chapel, or sit down and have coffee at the Buddhist bookstore. There are also classes for children and adults on Sundays. The essence of the Tzu Chi Foundation is to inspire greater love in the society through humanitarian initiatives, rather than just through chanting and inner work. Visit this campus, and you will be inspired.
