It's beautiful inside and out. On the inside it looks surprisingly clean and pristine and "newer." On the outside it looks old and Buffalonian. It's one of about 50 spectacular churches in this area. If you're into old religious buildings, you'd be hard pressed to find a place with as many old, nearly untouched, ornate and gorgeous European-style buildings. The bell tower of this church is particularly notable. It's just to the East of downtown and might be one of the first or last things you see if you're entering or leaving via the 33.

As a child he would take her family to mass here and then they would have lunch at Swiss Chalet when it was on Main Street. I had never been till yesterday when we attended a funeral here. It truly is an amazing church, if you are in Buffalo I highly recommend attending a mass here.

I love the way it looks in the sunlight. It's not old or gothic at all, it's a very pristine, flowery, odern looking church, which really shines in the sunlight, as I said. It's brand new-looking but it's still got a lot of class and style and grace, and is a lovely sight at sunset and sunrise. I've only been inside it once, during a walking tour of Williamsville this past Fall, and it looks brand new and smells fresh and clean (like most of Williamsville does). I like going inside churches, but I admit I do prefer the old ones, such as in the UK and across Europe.

In addition to the gorgeous main altar and stunning vaulted ceiling, stained glass windows, and other religious effects, the choir and the organist and the German-American band were all in top form. This year's German Mass was held December 4, and it was the largest turnout I have seen for the annual event. German language missals are provided so that even those unfamiliar with German may follow along. This is a splendid Christmas event that I recommend to everyone, regardless of personal beliefs. Architecturally and historically, the church is also on many must-visit lists for Buffalo, New York.

WNY's churches are among the most gorgeous structures in the region, and this is one of a dozen or so truly spectacular structures which is five star inside and out in my personal opinion.

It's got a long history, dating back to the 1920s, and there are many bits of cultural and Christian significance in the shrine, from the shape, to the number of steps, and so on. People are encouraged to explore the shrine and peacefully and quietly meditate on the grounds. There are a number of places for quiet sitting around the area, lots of benches, and a picnic pavilion, which can be rented. On my second visit, there were a few kids playing in the area and a couple of adults enjoying the shady spots. I think that overall, it's a wonderful place to stop by to just rest and quietly think, and to explore the history of the shrine.

Gorgeous church on Hertel, really lovely landmark…read more St Margarine's is pretty amazing. I can't believe it's not butter. This church is one of the highlights of Hertel Avenue. It has a large land plot with lots of greenery and a gorgeous statue out in the open, where me and my out of town friends used to go and sit and eat pizza. The church itself, like many in Buffalo, looks old and haunted and beautiful. It adds a lot of character to Hertel Avenue. A really wonderful landmark.

Rev William Schreck established the parish of St Gerards to fit the spiritual needs of the area. As time went on, they needed a bigger place to worship, because more people were coming to the area. So in 1911 the current building was started. They did not actually finish it until the 1930's, but they used it starting in 1913. Its made from Indiana Limestone. Ive been here only once, on a recent tour of area historical sites. The open hours seem a little limited, but if you catch them, its worth a visit Bring a camera.

Our Lady of Hope is the Parrish, the church is called The Annunciation Roman Catholic Church. Its on Lafayette and Greenwood Place, between Richmond and Niagara. Imagine if you can, the West Side as a series of dirt roads, with all the mud that comes with that. Families moving into the area found it difficult to get to the closest RC churches, and asked the Bishop if they could have their own church. A small worship space was built in the 1880's, but as more families moved from the First Ward into this area (the First Ward was becoming industrialized), this church needed to be made larger. And it was. Open in the first decade of the last century, this church remains standing today. The church was built in the Gothic style, designed by Albert A Post. Many of the murals done by the same artist who did Our Lady of Victory Basilica in Lackawanna, Reggi. Sometimes its open and you can walk around. Worth the time.
