went for an appt to have a fill in done after seeing there new dentist my mouth has been in pain for the past 2 weeks called to schedule with Dr. Pia and they first told me l couldn't see her I hadto see the same person told them no and then very rudely she said I had to and then after I told them I wanted to speak with a supervisor she hung up me I called back and then she said I can't speak to a supervisor and told me to go another dentist and hung up they are unprofessional very rude and I wouldn't take my worst enemy there. read more

I recommend avoiding this dental group. I attempted to schedule a routine cleaning. I provided them my insurance information both over zocdoc and via email. They emailed me to cancel my initial appointment via zocdoc since the dentist wasn't available. I scheduled for the following week and they emailed me nearly every other day asking for my dental insurance information saying they couldn't verify my benefits with Delta Dental. I had to call Delta Dental on 4 occasions to confirm my benefit information. On over 5 occasions they asked for my subscriber ID which VA Delta Dental does not utilize. Turns out I had to find out on my own from Delta Dental that they needed to use my SSN which the front office did not ever ask me for once. I told the dental group they needed to confirm via calling Delta Dental and not utilize the automated system which they did not do. The day before my appointment at 5:45pm I updated the dental group to use my SSN and provided it over the phone. The receptionist AGAIN tries to check via the automated system which I told her not to use. She then says she cannot call Delta Dental (who I just talked to 2 mins prior to the call) since they are closed, which is a lie because Delta Dental closes at 8pm. So they refused to do their jobs. They then asked to cancel my appt and to come in on Saturday. This has been the absolute worst dental office I have ever dealt with and I have dealt with many. I highly recommend you avoid this office. read more

Do not go. Doctors are not professional. Front desk is so rude. Doctors: I went there three times. First two times it was with Dr Khang but I did not see the slightest sight of him at all. Third time it was with Dr Piya for some fillings but NOBODY explained anything to me. I didn't even know which tooth had the fillings and guess what, she doesn't either until I asked. She also said my other tooth were in good shape when in fact one was erupted and I had to go to another clinic to have it pulled. Front desk: And the front desk ladies are extremely rude to me. One time they insisted my insurance was downgraded without any explanation and asked me pay full amount of the service. I have been to this practice a number of times and had DR PIA do an amazing job at saving one of my few bottom teeth. Also DR Khang is my man to go for extractions .Very fast and efficient and they also charge very reasonable rates compared with 99% of others who charge 4-5 times as much for an extraction. I moved to MA 5 years ago from philly and I found it really difficult to find a dentist that I felt comfortable going to. I met Dr.Piya and she was considerate of my timing and my tight schedule. She even worked with me the past year through my Invisalign and my teeth look better than ever. The Invisalign was affordable and I am really happy with my outcome. Initially I had a few bumps with reception but when I communicated that to Dr. Piya I never had that issue again. I also initially felt like my dental assistant wasn't the best at communicating the impression process but then when I came in for my last impressions she did such a great job walking me through the process and helping me understand what she needed from me. I'm really proud of how far this office has come and I am disappointed that I will be leaving them to find a new dentist down in NC. I highly recommend Dr Piya to anyone looking for a new dentist in MA. read more

I had my first appointment at Prospect Dental this morning. I was expecting the worst since I haven't been to the dentist in years due to moving around a lot. When I say the worst, I mean maybe a cavity or two...nothing like what I was actually faced with. For starters, the dentist and the hygienist (Carol) were arguing right over my face during the entire exam. Things like "why did you open the package this way" or "I can't use this tool because it's bent" or yelling down the hall for Carol to come give suction. It was quite unpleasant but unfortunately not the worst of my experience. Once the dentist was done examining and scraping my teeth, Carol told me she was going to polish my teeth. Within a minute of her starting I felt a pain which I can only describe as the polishing tool getting caught on my lip. I loudly exclaimed "that's my lip, that's my lip!" to which Carol responded, "no it's not." She then asked if I wanted something to numb my mouth...if the tool DID NOT get stuck on my lip why would I need to be numbed for a routine cleaning...? Obviously I couldn't see what actually happened so I let her finish the cleaning, which was also not quite like I have ever experienced. Toothpaste was spraying everywhere, so much so that I could see little chunks all over my pants when she finished. She kept having to "re-dip" the tool into the toothpaste per every two teeth, I'm not familiar with that either. Finally it was done but I didn't even get to rinse out my mouth anywhere, she just stuck the sucker tool in and said close your mouth. She asked if I wanted to go to the bathroom before I left which I said yes to so I could rinse my mouth and see what had happened to my lip. (Picture below, sorry if it's tmi, but be grateful it's blurry because it's way worse looking in person.) On my way out, I told (and showed!) the receptionists what had happened and although they apologized they did not say what would be done about the situation or offer any remedy to my pain. I understand my visit was covered by insurance so it's not as if they could refund my visit, but I can think of a few things that would have definitely made me feel better about the situation before I left. I have been taking Advil since 10 am after my appointment to deal with the pain. I am very disappointed and will in no way be returning in 6 months for my second cleaning. read more

I received an invitation to come back for a checkup. I told the receptionist that I had had a bad experience with them last time. She seemed to know exactly what I was talking about and told me the dental hygienist that cleaned me last time was no longer working for them; she further promised that a dentist would be assigned to clean my teeth. Because my only issue last time was with the hygienist, I agreed to give them another chance. The receptionist told me there were two times available, 9 AM and 10:30 AM. I opted for the 10:30 appointment. The day of my appointment arrived. I checked my email around 8:55 AM to confirm the time of my appointment. I was surprised to see that my appointment had been scheduled for 9 AM. Thinking that I must have made a mistake, I called a Lyft instead of driving (to save time) and rushed out the door. On the way I called the receptionist and told her I was running a few minutes late for my appointment. I was befuddled when she told me that my appointment had been scheduled for 10:30. Because I had already paid for my Lyft and was en route, I decided to check in with them personally and see what had happened. She again told me my appointment was for 10:30. When I showed her the email they had sent me, along with the 9 AM appointment time, she couldn't explain what had happened. I asked her to cancel my 10:30 appointment and left, having nothing else in the area to do and no car. I gave them two stars this time because they seemed genuinely interested in ensuring I had a better visit this time. It's unfortunate that they can't seem to make it work out for me. I was formerly a patient of Dr. Piya and Dr. Pepito. Both are excellent dentists - friendly, took the time to answer questions, and overall really care about their patients. The problem is with Eugene Khang, who leads the practice. He is arrogant, rude, and has horrible bedside manner. I only interacted twice with him during my time as a patient and it was two times too many. The first was during a wisdom teeth removal procedure with Dr. Pepito. She was having issues removing one of the teeth because it had a stubborn root. She asked Eugene for assistance and he basically came over to my chair, pulled down hard on my jaw, and then yanked the tooth out with his hand. The tooth landed on the back of my tongue and instead of picking it up, he immediately walked away leaving it on my tongue. Everyone who was in the room looked at him in disbelief and then Dr. Pepito took the tooth off my tongue because I was about to nearly swallow it. The second awful interaction was a dental cleaning with him. After the wisdom teeth experience, I was pretty adamant that I did not want him to do my cleaning. When he overheard, he forced the front staff to book me with him anyway and said I would have a fee if I cancelled the appointment. I thought that I would give it a chance since it was just a cleaning. How bad could it be, right? Well, I was definitely wrong because he was incredibly aggressive with the cleaning to the point where I left the appointment with bleeding gums and throbbing pain. That has never happened to me before with any other dental cleaning, including the ones I previously had with other dentists at his practice. I honestly have no idea how this man ever got a dental degree. He does not deserve a medical license and certainly does not deserve to run a practice. It's completely disgusting how he treats his patients and I would advise others to steer clear of him to avoid an awful experience. read more

Do not go to this dental group. My first appointment (with Dr. Piya) was perfectly fine, which is why I give them an extra star. My second appointment, however, will be my last. I arrived 10 mins early, checked in, and they left me in the waiting room for 40 MINS (30 mins past scheduled time) with no comment at all about the wait. That alone was incredibly unprofessional, and I knew I would not be coming here again. When I was finely called in, I was taken to Dr. Khang and Marina, told that Dr. Piya was not working today. They proceeded to treat me as an inanimate mouth, roughly scraping my teeth without checking on me even though I was physically wincing, and having their own conversation over my body. In the middle of their conversation, Dr. Khang asked me if I had had braces, and I coughed up water when I tried to reply as they were not paying attention to the amount of water they were spraying in my mouth. Later, Marina left the room while the air tube was still stuck in my mouth, which hurt my gums that were already sensitive from the rough cleaning. After polishing my teeth, she said "that's done" and then left the room with my lips covered green from the polishing paste. If you are Prospect Dental, please consider only scheduling appointment times that you know you can hold, ensure that the patient sees the doctor they are expecting, and treat your patients with human decency. read more

I booked a cleaning first in order to see if I would let these guys work on my teeth. Very nice and very professional is what they turned out to be and they've got me for good. I'm a hard sell when it comes to dentists. I'm a major wimp when there's pain involved (though I don't show it) and I insist on only going to businesses where I never feel like I'm "inconveniencing" someone by asking them to do their job. Everyone at Prospect Dental is stellar in that respect. I've gone back to get fillings done and the work has been very reasonably priced. I booked a cleaning for six months out and I'm not dreading it at all. Dr. Khang is a gentle and articulate dentist. I really feel that my teeth are taken care of efficiently at Prospect Dental and it is a relief to me to know that they are right down the street. The receptionist Sue has been helpful with scheduling times that work for me. If you are feeling less than brave about getting your teeth worked on or you've been putting it off, keep in mind that everyone at Prospect Dental is truly very kind, gentle, professional and not judgmental at all. The reviews on this page are such a mixed bag that I was very hesitant to schedule an appointment. After my visit, I feel compelled to guide those who are considering Prospect Dental: If you're looking for a thorough pro, I would recommend Dr. Khang. I hadn't been to the dentist in *years* (I won't even admit how long), and he gave me a ridiculously good cleaning. His staff took the usual x-rays of my teeth and all was fine and good. If you're one of those people that enjoys doctors or dentist visits because everything is pristine, everyone is similey and accommodating, you expect your doctor to break down everything that is and isn't wrong with you as if you were a medical student and needed every detail, and your insurance allows you to look elsewhere, then you might not want to schedule a visit to Dr. Khang's. Though he's certainly a pro, he's the kind of dentist that says it's good if it's good period and tells you in, his own clearly frustrated way, that you need to floss daily. The rest of his staff are very kind, but they're characters for sure--get ready for accents, stories, and zero attempts to be that perfect medical assistant that's always smiley and accommodating. read more

I had the most painful dental exam of my life here, with Dr. Piya. The gum line of each tooth was poked in six distinct places with a very sharp metal object. I have never had this done before, and I don't know why it was necessary--she didn't tell me. I came in with two complaints - jaw pain after waking up, and sensitivity to cold in one tooth. The latter issue was not acknowledged or discussed at all. For the jaw pain, she said a mouth guard "might help, but it's hard to know." I had no cavities, yet I left with recommendations for gum surgery and a filling for a small cosmetic blemish in one tooth that every other dentist has told me is too small to become a cavity. Find a different dentist--hopefully one with doors and walls for the exam rooms. (This place doesn't have those--just giant cabinets that sort of block you off from the next patient, but not really. The receptionist watched my whole cleaning.) Update: I received a message from Dr. Khang apologizing for my experience here. I still won't be going back, but he does seem to care about his patients' well-being. read more

I'm not sure about this place - they had to send me to a specialist after one root canal took a bad turn (curved root), and the specialist also believes the second root canal they told me I likely had to have wasn't a good idea at all. Took me 3 sessions of work (so missed work, 3 weeks of pain, etc.), and the specialist couldn't even fully fix it so there might be problems later. I really wish I knew whether the non-specialist at Prospect attempting it in the first place was a mistake or whether this was something they couldn't have predicted. Because that's a massive difference, obviously. Still, they were pretty friendly and helpful. Showed me the xrays, etc. The dental assistant was very nice. It was hard for me to understand the receptionist over the phone (accent + cell reception) but it was fine in person. She went over my insurance coverage very thoroughly. I do wish the dentists would introduce themselves by name rather than saying "I am the doctor." Because I'm just like, no, The Doctor has a time machine, you have an x-ray machine, I can tell the difference. Oh, and they prescribe actual painkillers (codeine) after your root canal. I had a really bad experience at Prospect Dental. The hygienist who cleaned my teeth was unprofessional (arguing with the dentist in front of me, telling me I was late for my appointment when I was actually early). But she also just made me incredibly uncomfortable and seemed like she made mistakes while cleaning my teeth. She was unnecessarily touchy (resting her arm on my body, very forcefully moving my head when she could have asked me to move my head, closing my mouth shut for me without warning or asking me, etc.). I also had warned her my teeth are sensitive and then she used the highest setting for cleaning my teeth, which was so painful I had to tell her I was in pain -- but she didn't stop. The dentist eventually came over and noticed something was wrong and said that she was supposed to have used a lower setting for the device she was using to clean my teeth, which helped a lot. The hygienist never apologized to me, and never realized or cared how uncomfortable I was with her. At one point she tried to shut my mouth for me (again, without warning me or asking me) over the suction device, and I told her no -- it hurts because it's cold. Overall: I've never minded dentists before, but this experience was jarring and I strongly recommend finding another practice. read more

Very very good experience with them. Been there 4 times now and every time I get a good service, nice people and they do a great work. I like their reminders and appointment system is very helpful. Also I don't feel ripped of which is important for me. Maybe my only note is that although I always go at the same time same day I get treatment by a different person. Avoid Dr Khang: rude, unprofessional, painful service. Dentist (Khang) did not introduce himself or ask about my medical history. He also did not warn me before injecting painkiller or notify me of any of the steps of the procedure. He repeatedly hit various teeth on accident with his tools, which was quite painful. He promptly disappeared after the procedure and I did not get a chance to speak with him. The hygienist (Marina) left the room several times at important stages (e.g. when dentist was asking for suction she was in another room). She yanked tube out of mouth, was distracted and missed my mouth several times, sprayed liquid on my face, and did not apologize for any of it. Knowing that I would not be coming back I requested x-rays from reception which costs $25 to e-mail, a scam I have never seen before. read more

Had a deep cavity between 2 molars developing for months. I have no insurance but they gave me free x-ray. Dr. Jesbina Piya worked fast and precise, in 30 minutes they fixed my issues for a few hundred dollars. Everyone was kind including reception girls and assistant. 5/5 They don't force you into unnecessary procedures, and work clean with good Covid-19 protocols and work ethic. I came here just because it is a block away from my work. It was just kinda weird here. The dental assistant was pretty pushy and not very nice. The dentist just did his stuff and mentioned I had 2 cavities and that I should replace my crown...but that is it. No explanation. He didn't show me my xrays to tell me where they were or how big they were. when he was done with the cleaning he handed off the clipboard to the receptionist and that was that. She then proceeded to try to schedule me for another appointment. I had to say no and try to figure out what the scribbles on the clipboard meant. She didn't really speak English so when she tried to painstakingly explain it to me I had to ask her to ask the dentist to come out and tell me. Still his explanations were all jumbled and he still did not tell me how big they were. Something about one of them not being covered because they refused to use the silver filling. Normally I would just go with the flow, but this time going with the flow means about $600 out of pocket. I plan to get a second opinion. read more

Friendly staff and Dr. Piya does a great job on teeth. But they are incredibly money hungry. They spent a good deal of time making me feel bad about my teeth, and then proposed I get fillings on almost every tooth as well as braces and some previous work redone. Even when it came to figuring out where to begin treatment, Dr. Piya kept on telling me I can start "anywhere - because there's so much to do." They could never even answer me when I asked which teeth were worse than others. I didn't notice how bad it was until I switched dentists. My new dentists go over my x-rays and tell me which teeth they can just put a watch on and which teeth need fillings soon (only 3 total). They also haven't pushed for me to redo any fillings with them since none of my teeth have caused me pain. read more

Unlike the previous post, my experience was anything but "stellar." DR. KYUNG-MOOK KANG is not someone I'd recommend, ever!!!! His address is actually in Cambridge on 30 Prospect St. right near Starbucks in Central Square, it's not Somerville, MA. It started when I was asked to sign this foreboding paperwork, that was filled with misspelled words throughout. I told the receptionist I was not comfortable signing such poorly written paperwork. This did not please her one bit, but she saw the errors and couldn't disagree. When It was time for me to go to the exam chair, I sat down and waited. Within minutes my seat was going backwards. The dentist KYUNG-MOOK KANG never introduced himself, instead he schlepped me backwards with a cold indifference... and for all I know didn't even put on a clean pair of gloves. You know I should have run then, but hindsight is always 20/20. He proceeded to talk ONLY when I'd ask a question. It was the weirdest thing-ever. He scraped one area for so long that I got a splitting headache. It was not typical for that much scraping to go on, seeing as I never in all my 3+ decades on this earth have had a problem with plaque and the like. Meanwhile his female dental assistant kept walking away, while she was supposed to be suctioning my saliva. Next he gets up without speaking one word and she starts sanding my teeth. I told her I had a question for the dentist when she apprehensively informed me he was gone. So i said "Oh I'll wait." She replies, "No, he is gone, he had an appointment and had to leave the building." WHAT!!##@! This guys mode of operation was STEALTH! ENTER AND DEPART UNNOTICED! YES, HE ACTUALLY DID THIS TO MY UTTER DISBELIEF. Needless to say I will NOT recommend him to anyone! Dr. Khang is the best dentist I've ever had. He is a top-notch dentist and he doesn't lure patients into unnecessary procedures. He is very attentive and thorough not only for complex procedures such as implant but also for routine checkup/cleaning. I went here for teeth cleaning. The dentist was gentle while cleaning and trimming stones. It was a bit hard to understand receptionist's english over the phone but it's fine in person. After all done, I got a dental floss, small toothpaste/brush and mouthwash! read more

I had a toothache and did not know what was the problem. Because this one located close to my work and Google rating is pretty good, I called them. I believe the doctor I saw was Dr. Kang. The booking process is pretty good. The reception is polite. The dental assistant does not speak good English, so communication is a little problem at first. Nevertheless, X-ray was done in a few minutes by the assistant. Then the Doctor showed up. Without introducing himself, he start to look at my mouth from the back while I lied down. He did not find the real cause of my problem and suspected a sinus infection. It is actually a gum problem. He spent only about 15 second on me and made that wrong conclusion. Next day I wanted to get my X-ray. And they charged me $25 to have a copy. I do not know if all other dentists also charge this ridiculous document fee or not. read more

This place is a complete joke. Do not come here. they are so unprofessional. I came in one time looking for a good dentist because I haven't been back in some time for dental care. Yes they are nice but they are so unprofessional . They gave me a full bath while just trying to clean my teeth. They continued to talk and run there mouth. Instead of doing there job correctly. They also attempted to do a fill in for a cavity. It was the worst job and experience I've ever had. I do not recommend you come here. The last time I went for an appointment, they were late, and I had to leave because I couldn't wait. I asked the new office manager if they would charge me for that day's visit if I rescheduled, and she wouldn't answer the question. I asked her again, and she threatened to bill me if I asked her the question one more time. I filed a complaint with my insurance company to make sure they didn't bill me for that day when they did nothing, and their response was to deny that it happened.
