My daughter and I visited this zoo this past Wednesday with friends. It took us about an hour to get the zoo via subway. The zoo was fun and was toddler friendly. They have monkeys, baboons, sand cats, fennec foxes, bats, an aviary, a barn (with sheep, Zebu, Llama, bunnies), emu, peacocks, sea lions and more. It was our first time there and it was nice. I would love to visit again to see the monkeys and watch the peacocks roaming around. Lastly, WCS members get discounts on merchandise. That's awesome! read more

Small zoo in Prospect Park, Brooklyn. It is a little bit bigger than the Central Park zoo but smaller than the Queens zoo and Bronx zoo. The animal exhibits can be completed in one hour. This is the cleanest zoo I have been to. There is also a store to buy food and seats to sit in if you choose to eat there. It is expensive. I asked for the cost of a p&j sandwich. Just a few stop from manhattan. Open your Google map and you are able to find and walk to the zoo after you get off the train. Checking in was a breeze and then you are off. Both indoors with AC and outdoor to see lots of different animals. We even saw bats in the dark. Seals are right in the center of the zoo. There is also eating area outdoor. You can easily finish scanning around off 2-3 hours. read more

Thanks to our wildlife membership, our admission to the zoo was free this past Saturday. It's been 2 years since our last visit, and we were very happy to see lots of new changes to the place! Everything was open but conservation hall that was reserved for a birthday party. We arrived at around noon, and the place wasn't overly packed with visitors. My 4.5 year old son enjoyed the Discovery Trail and we really got a personal close encounter with the baboons! Really awesome! We spent a good 2 hours here, and the exhibits were clean and had great information about each animal on display to have little conversations with our toddler and learn a thing or two along the way. The aviary was nice too, as my son liked the different birds and trying to find them. The pond was nice too; spent a while looking at the duck varieties and the lounging turtles. One star was removed due to the Sea Lion Cafe, which is very limited in their food offerings, so be sure to either pack lunch or lots of snacks, because you'll be pretty disappointed with the selection. Overpriced and sparse, I would skip coming here all together; we ate lunch at home after our visit. Keep in mind that you need to find street parking along Flatbush Avenue, and we were very lucky to grab a spot right outside the side entrance, which we sadly learned was actually closed, so we have to walk to the corner and then enter. It's about a good 10 minute walk so keep that in mind if you kid is a runner like mine. read more

I truly loved my experience here at Prospect Park. I recently went with a large group of kids plus my service dog (which I thought would be difficult) but it turned out to be great due to the layout of this place. I love the Bronx zoo but at times it can be overwhelming, I felt that since this zoo is smaller it was easier to manage. Everything was super clean which surprised me, from the exhibitions to the pavement. My favorite thing to see was the monkeys. They were super interactive with us (I think because of my dog) which was fun to see. I had a great time here and recommend for anyone to come especially families! read more

I went to the Prospect Park Zoo with my friend and our two four-year-old sons after a Saturday picnic, also in Prospect Park. As it turns out, the park is enormous, and by the time we got there, it was almost time for me to leave. Even so, I'm happy we made it. My kid and I enjoyed ourselves before I had to yank him cruelly away, with nothing to console him but the promise of a long train ride back to Manhattan. The zoo is apparently small, and ticket prices were moderate, about $10 for adults and $7 for kids. We only saw a fraction of it, but I felt we got reasonable value. We started our visit with a carousel ride, which cost extra but was totally worthwhile. I did think it was funny that the best animals we saw were the California sea lions, whose cousins we encounter regularly on zoo and aquarium outings at home. The sea lion set-up was particularly good here, with several of them swimming around a large fountain near the zoo's entrance. I also appreciated the loose peacocks, who absolutely delighted the children. Otherwise, we only had time to dip into an indoor room with various reptiles and amphibians behind glass. I was very proud of my son for leaving after that, as even I would've liked to see one or two more cute animals. This was a hectic outing, but we had a great time. I hope to come back to the Prospect Park Zoo. We'll say hi to our sea lion friends and meet the other inhabitants. read more

First time visiting Prospect ParkZoo. It's on the smaller side but still nice, and well worth visiting.. It's clean and well kept. There's also a petting zoo for kids. You can pretty much see the whole zoo in about 2 hours . Tickets cost $10. for adults and $7. for children.. A pretty nice and small zoo is in Prospect Park that's good for those not wanting to spend lots of time looking around and is a good place to bring a family. It doesn't have any wow type of exhibits but it does have lots of animals for considering how small it can feel. You can see everything within a couple hours. Fairly priced admission. This is a good value compared to other attractions around here. It has a convenient location on the east side of Prospect Park near the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. Lots of ways to get here. The main entrance is located on Flatbush Avenue at the large staircase. Admission is pretty fair. They have special exhibits you can pay extra for too. It's about $9 for adults. That's much cheaper than the New York Aquarium and the Bronx Zoo. Among the main attractions are the sea lions. These guys have a big pool. It's in the center. There's also small buildings that are homes of baboons, monkeys, and reptiles. Check out the barn. There's barnyard animals like chickens, cows, and goats. It seems much of this is geared toward children. That's okay, there's plenty for everyone to enjoy here. Has very few food choices. Only vending machines. There's many good places to eat in the area so before coming here go eat something. read more

Stopped by on 3pm on Memorial Day weekend! Got tickets online and tried to watch the seal show at 3:30 but it finished so fast we never got to catch it! Weird considering online it says it's supposed to be 15 minutes, and yet it was less than 5. This is my 5th time coming to this zoo, and that was the shortest seal show I've ever heard of. That said, the park itself is beautiful to walk around with your significant other or family. The sculptures, fauna and animals make it worth it. The barn and red pandas were my favorite part of the entire zoo. You get to feed certain animals but the line to get change is insane. There used to be more animals too? Kinda miss seeing so many birds in the aviary, today it was disturbingly silent... For any annoyed by children, this is not your place. There are so many kids, so that means groups of families and strollers everywhere! Having to walk behind groups of moms and kids, so patience is required! Plus a lot of the kids tend to try to bother/chase the peacocks and pull their tails. Kinda annoying to witness but hey, they're kids right? Overall, clearly this isn't the last time I'm gonna come back for this zoo, it's a staple in Brooklyn and so close other places like the Brooklyn museum and botanical garden. As far as zoos, this is on the small size and geared more towards young children. Nevertheless, the zoo is very well maintained, it's clean, and it's fun to visit. Apart from the roaming peacocks who just strut around, the California sea lions are just beautiful to watch, and the baboons are probably the stars of the zoo. There is a barn and garden that features sheep, juliana pigs, alpaca, and goats, and you can buy food pellets to feed all the animals. Other interesting outdoor animals you can find along the discovery trail include river otters, emus, red pandas, and porcupines[1]. There is also an aviary with some beautiful wild birds. In the Hall of Animals indoor exhibition there are some incredibly colorful poison dart frogs, mongoose, fish from the Amazon river, iguanas, turtles, marmosets, tamarins, toucans, and many more. If you are a parent of a young child in Brooklyn, this is one of the few places that are open on a Monday. This place helped me quite a few times when daycare was closed on a Monday: great way to spend a couple of hours with your child, who is sure to love this zoo. The zoo helped out a lot also during the pandemic, when daycare was closed. But anyone can have fun and relax, here. My wife an I had one of our first dates here, now many years ago. One extra star because I happened to find myself at the Prospect Park Zoo on Saturday, November 7 2020, the day Joe Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 US Presidential elections. From inside the zoo we started hearing cars honking; like, A LOT of cars honking. While we were wondering what was going on, we started receiving the news on our phones. As we left the zoo and walked North along Flatbush Ave., we were greeted by a spontaneous celebration of hundreds of people on Grand Army Plaza. Nice memories. Came here for the first time as a 32 year old with my wife and 2 year old. This zoo is the perfect size for a baby/toddler compared to the Bronx Zoo which is so large and requires a lot more walking. You'll be done with all the exhibits here in 2 hours or so. Many things to keep your child attentive especially those roaming peacocks. Don't forget to bring quarters for the animal feeding stations. The only thing missing here is food options but you can always bring in your own lunch. Plus street parking is available (tip: you can park on Flatbush across from the zoo starting at 10am). read more

My first time at this Zoo ever. It's too bad I had waited all this time to check this Zoo out. One of the entrances is closed currently or at least it was recently. It might have opened up by now because of restrictions being lifted. There is a lot to do and see here. There were three indoor buildings you could go into and there were multiple animals inside each building. Also sea lions that are outside. Usually there is a feeding schedule but it's suspended until restrictions are lifted. I went with my niece and she loved it as well which is also good enough for me. We visited the zoo on Tuesday August 12th and we have to say we were disappointed. Not only were half the animals not out, the staff was unprofessional. We stopped into the cafe/gift shop and I have to say we were disgusted by the behavior of the staff. There were 4 staff members inside and were kicking around wood chips like it was recess. There were at least 3 of us in the shop. Not one member greeted us nor did they stop what they were doing. They acted like we interrupted their play time. We have been members of the WCS for years now and have visited all the other zoos and have never seen anything like this. We agreed that this location is not one we will return to. read more

One of the things that stood out to me was how clean and clear the exhibits were to see. Super simple to navigate around the zoo as well. Saw a lot of animals I have never seen before. Highly recommend. I have been to Queens Zoo, Manhattan Central Park Zoo , and Bronx zoo ....Brooklyn Prospect Park Zoo was my favorite zoo overall. I liked how chill it was. As part of our membership in the New York Zoological Society, we made the goal of visiting every zoo in the system. This was the last one we had not seen, and it is a complete gem. Not terribly close to the Atlantic Avenue LIRR station, but an easy bus ride. We knew that it was in a very compact space, but it feels distinctly bigger than the Central Park Zoo, and there was plenty of elbow room as we went through the various sections. The long path includes a stream with otters, a red panda, and a very people friendly peacock. The main building has a generous selection of monkeys. The next building has a striking exhibit of nocturnal animals. At the time of our visit, there was a display of life sized dinosaur models, and the grounds were well maintained, giving me my first look at spring foliage. The barn area out back had a herd of very friendly goats, and the seal pond in the front courtyard reminds you that seals are natural showmen. Because of its relatively compact size, you can manage a visit in two hours or so without completely wearing out your legs. In between, there are lots of treats for animal lovers. read more

Small zoo even smaller now with COVID as some of the exhibits were closed. During COVID they are very good with social distancing. They have floor markers, direction signs for one-way traffic and limit the number of people in the indoor exhibits. The price is very reasonable and appropriate for what is currently being offered. ($10 for adults and $7 for kids) This would be good if you are in or near Prospect Park to kill about an hour or two. Lots of street parking along Flatbush Avenue (even though street cleaning is alternate side - Mon/Thurs, Tues/Fri - it is from 8:30 - 9 AM so you could easily find spots after 9.) All staff were very helpful and kind. I would love to return once the other exhibits open back up. read more

My kids are 2 and 5 at this time. Prospect zoo is a perfect little zoo for this age. The size of the park and exhibits are just right. You don't feel overwhelmed and the kids enjoy themselves. I brought a small blanket to sit on the lawn for lunch- we brought our own lunch too! I don't think I saw any food stands at this time. There is snacks such as popcorn and ice cream at the store but nothing more than that. There are peacocks wandering freely around so this was very entertaining for the kids. There are areas where you can feed the goats and ducks so be sure you have some quarters To buy pellets. read more

Prospect Park Zoo is a good small zoo, perfect to fill about 2-3 hours and very small kid friendly. The sea lions and the peacocks walking freely around the central courtyard are a delightful homebase, allowing you to regroup, get your snack on, and people/animal watch casually. I love the red pandas, otters, and the porcupine on the discovery trail (although yes, they may be napping). The Barn is always a hit to get up close and feed the happy sheep, goats, turkeys, and alpacas. The baboon exhibit is great and in not-COVID-times, really good for sitting and watching for a while. Take your time at this zoo, its small and there's no need to rush. COVID protocols here are quite good. There are timed entry tickets that give you an hour window to enter, then you can stay as long as you like. The indoor exhibits have a person minding the door so that capacity and social distancing are well minded. The floors are marked well, there's plenty of places to sanitize hands, and the bathrooms had plenty of space to feel safe. COVID has made the food situation harder though, so there are prepackaged snacks, salads, and sandwiches in the main gift shop, but they don't look too tasty... TIPS: bring a roll of quarters or single dollar bills to get feed for the sheep or the ducks. A small bucket to carry it would be a smart add too. Buy your tickets online in advance, as space is limited and goes fast for popular times or weekends. Bring your own snacks. Zoo is stroller friendly but there are stairs from the entrance on Flatbush that aren't accessible. The Children's corner entrance by the Carousel is accessible but definitely bumpy. read more

My nephew had his birthday here so I will focus this review on private parties that the Zoo can host. We were given a private, air conditioned space (Thank God because it was an extremely humid day). There were three workers - one working security at the door, one displaying the animals and one helper. They brought out animals the children could see, pet, ask Qs etc. I took my child and ran away from the snake mostly due to personal reasons. The party guests were also lead to the petting zoo. There were sheep, lamb, goats, a cow/bull (?) in pens. The children and adults were given food to hand feed the animals. The hosts brought in coolers with water, soda and juice boxes for the kiddos. There is a pizza/Italian spot that delivers to the zoo for parties (they know exactly where to go) but you can order/bring in any food you want. No alcohol. The zoo provided gift bags but the hosts added items to them. I thought it was very expensive for what we got, but the kids had a nice time. I appreciated being able to eat in a private room. read more

This is a small zoo which is primarily aimed at families with young kids. Is a small property and it's well maintained where kids can really stretch their legs and guide the flow of activities. It was really fun seeing my nephew explore. For $8 a day, it's a good deal. The exhibits are pretty small, and honestly I felt sad for the animals. That's the only reason I removed a star. These critters have a very limited space to occupy and it was pretty sad. Other than that the grounds are beautiful, clean and easy to navigate. There is an area for kids to feed some animals and even a play area for little ones. I found a good range of activities for kids. If your adults here with no kids, this zoo could leave a lot to be desired. Overall it was fun, and I look forward to taking my nephew again in the future. read more

Small, but really nice small zoo We enjoyed our visit here on a quiet Sunday afternoon. We've been to plenty of zoos over the years, but as for a small zoo - this was one of the better ones we've visited. The featured exhibit is their sea lions, but we enjoyed the red panda (he/she was napping, but still cute) and the tamarin monkeys. They have 2 sets - both of which were fun to observe for a while. For the $9.95 fee per person, we thought it was a decent value. They do require vaccination proof to enjoy the inside exhibits, although they permit entry just without access to the indoor parts of the zoo. read more

I came here for the first time as a chaperone with my daughters school. The zoo was relatively cozy, but there was a lot of action. You encounter the sea lions almost immediately, and in my case, you'll also run into the walking peacocks. Unfortunately, I later had an encounter with a different peacock who trapped me inside of the door, but it was a fun experience. After entering the barn we went inside to see the baboons and they were fighting each other which led to further entertainment for the kids. As I previously stated, the zoo is pretty small. You could probably view the entire zoo in less than an hour. However, I had to leave early and didn't get to view everything the park had to offer. This zoo was cute but small. I don't know why i was expecting more, but for what it has, it's okay. There were many peacocks just roaming the grounds along with the patrons of the zoo. Fun fun fun! Small zoo, but once you walk in past the awesome steel sculptures and into the discovery path you'll feel like such a kid again. The Red Panda has to be my favorite - anyone's favorite actually. What's cuter than a panda humping a tree log? nothin. Second favorite part has to be the sea lion feeding (4pm). Perhaps I have not been to the zoo in a while, but I didn't expect the zookeepers to have actually trained them to do tricks. Awesome surprise. read more

What? I never wrote a review for Prospect Park Zoo? I could have sworn I had since I have been here at least 4 times just this year alone! Anyways, it's always smart to get the membership if you visit all the zoos and the aquarium as much as I do. The discovery trail is always a hit whenever I bring my 2 girls. Along the trail, they would encounter many small animal exhibits. Ducks, and turtles by the wooden overpass (bring spare quarters for feedings), a cute red panda, and Kay's favorite? Yes, a porcupine. Just to name a few. Be on the lookout for the hidden Spider Web, where kids can enjoy a little play time bouncing and climbing on it while you TRY to snap away many pictures hoping to get one okay shot. Ha ha. Once you find the Aviary, sadly it would be the end of the trail. Since we have been here way too many times, my girls both know very well that the fun doesn't stop there. We always take a quick snack break by the Sea Lion Court while watching the sea lions occasionally stick their heads out, then head over towards the Barn where they can feed farm animals. I always make sure I bring enough change, they just love their tiny hands being tickled while feeding the animals. This zoo is considered pretty small, but great for little kids to venture out before catching a good long nap, which busy moms, like me, look forward to every day. read more

This is not a big zoo but it's an appropriate size for small kids. I brought my nephew here on a quiet weekday and although he was afraid of all the animals I think he enjoyed the zoo. I would say this zoo is in the need of an update. Seems like so much wasted space and just dated. This not a zoo where you'll see exotic animals but they do have sea lions and a peacock that roams around freely which is cool. You can cover everything with a child in about an hour and a half. Originally, I dismissed the little zoos in NYC. And if you want a real zoo experience, go to the Bronx Zoo. It's amazing. However, the little zoos have their charm as well even if they don't provide an all day, wow experience. The Prospect Park Zoo is perfect for spending 2-3 calm hours observing a critter move around. While most people run to an exhibit, find the animal, and run on, I recommend hanging out there for at least 10-15 minutes. While yes, the animal will appear to do nothing interesting. You will feel a bit bored. However, then suddenly it gets up and does something. I tell myself it's like being a patient biologist out there to capture a special moment. (If you were the animal in a tiny enclosure, you'd be too bored to do nonstop action as well. However, the animals do get their curiosities or conflicts with others.) I usually try to find an exhibit with a bench and wait a little bit. Keep the camera ready. read more

I wandered into the Prospect Park Zoo after a walk through the Brooklyn Botanic Garden (they're directly across the street from each other on Flatbush Ave.). It was Labor Day weekend, so the place was pretty quiet...a few families and kids. When entering The main entrance on Flatbush Avenue, you have to walk down a huge flight of stairs to the zoo, but for those with strollers, use the Children's Entrance in Prospect Park proper, just past the Children's Corner carousel and Leffert's House attractions. The big attraction at the center of the zoo is the sea lion pool. Definitely catch a feeding, if you can...they have performances three times daily. The sea lions are awesome! Around to the right of the entrance is a Barn Animal exhibit, where you can feed llamas, chickens, goats, and even "pretend" milk a cow, which is actually pretty cool. This zoo is designed very well for educating and entertaining children of all ages. Around to the left of the entrance is the Discovery Trail, which has some cool animals like deer, kangaroos, dingos, and even red pandas (which were seriously the highlight of my visit). This is where you'll find the prairie dogs, and can tunnel with them, like at the Bronx Zoo. There is also an Aviary, but birds bore me, so I skipped that. I'm sure it's very nice. Don't miss the few buildings that house other attractions, including monkeys, reptiles, babboons, fish, meerkats, and more. I do wish the zoo had a more official dining option, rather than just some picnic tables and vending machines. I really would have loved a hot dog or a soft pretzel. I only spent a little more than an hour in the zoo, and I feel like I got the entire experience. For $8, I was very happy! read more

As an adult the visit will cost you $8. Got kids? Add $5 per child over 3. And yours won't be the only ones there. Dozens and dozens of children were running around the weekday afternoon we went. The zoo is easy enough to get to... although I recommend taking either the bus or the Q to Prospect Park stop. I know there's that whole should animals be there issue but on this issue I'm not sure where I stand so for I know I just enjoy it. The price isn't costly at about $9 for adults and $7 for seniors I believe. This was probably my third time visiting. Brought my mom for mothers day and she loved it. I follow the schedule so I get to see the sea lion feeding (main attraction) and then I just roam around for the rest of the day. You can bring bagged lunches and use the lawns for a picnic if you choose. There are plenty of animals to see if you're patient enough to wait for some of them to peak out.
