As a kid, I used to go to St. Hugh's Catholic Church and also Primary School in the 1950s. We used to play on the steps of this church on our way home and be chased by the caretaker. No harm done just fun. It had a very lively congregation those days and on the nearest Sunday to the Glorious 12th. they used to march up and down Earle Road and Lawrence Road after the service and before a church tea. There was always an extra loud thump of the drums when they passed our church when mass was on. I am really sorry to see it in this state and hope it can be restored. An important part of local history. read more
