If I could leave a lower starred review, then I would have…read more I called her office and spoke to a very friendly gentleman who helped me get a date for a free consultation with Mrs Barrett. I was looking to divorce my husband and knew that my case was going to be tricky (because he wanted custody of my two kids under five, primarily so he wouldn't have to pay child support.) I got to her office (had to take time off from work, which was expected) and was led to a VERY small waiting room. I filled out a piece of paperwork that mostly just asked for my name, address, phone number, my husbands information, our employers and how much income we bring home monthly. I got a pretty clear impression this attorney was looking at how much we made and more concerned about what the payout to her could be. I was led into her office and took a seat in front of her desk. She started by telling me her fees and the text book definition of contested and uncontested divorce (which I happened to already know from my research). I told her that I was looking for more information about how my case would be handled (child support?, whether or not he would continue living with us?? division of assets?) and she told me she wasn't here to provide me free legal advise. I told her that I understand that, but I cant make an informed decision about how to proceed if I don't know what to expect. I am trying to do what is in both mine and my children's best interest. She was flat out rude and disrespectful. She kept repeating her pricing and that if I would give her $500 then she would print out a "worksheet" for me to take home and review with my husband (which she knew I hadn't told that I wanted to leave him yet). Basically, "give me $500 and go drop the bomb on your hubby, bring back the worksheet and another $500 and we can talk about how this might impact your life." I couldn't believe that she wouldn't tell me ANYTHING about what to expect!! ALL SHE WOULD TALK ABOUT WAS HOW MUCH THIS WAS GOING TO COST. I asked her if i called to check on the status of my case if I would be billed for a short conversation. She said that her hourly fee is $600 and yes, I would be billed. She would not even think about my case without the clock going and me being charged her hourly fee. I asked her for her email address and she said her computer has more firewalls than my computer does and email is not a safe form of communication. I would only email her from work and I have a HUGE IT department that keeps our computers safe. I GUARANTEE my computer is more protected than her's. WHO DOESNT HAVE EMAIL IN 2012?!?! At any rate, I found this attorney to be highly disrespectful, rude, and over all no help at all to a mother seeking answers and help in a difficult time. I would NOT recommend her to anyone that wants to be treated with courtesy and understanding. 0.1 stars out of 5...and that is only because the receptionist was so nice.
