As a shop, Soma is enjoyable enough but perhaps not evoking anything as the drug its named after. The space is small but its been kept clean and space. This makes it a good space to view the various prints and other works on display. It's all contemporary, and British, by-and-large. You can also get various knick knacks. To be honest, this part of the shop is slightly for people with more money than sense, with things like £7 dish cloths. You can find some good gift ideas though. Soma is sophisticated and intelligent, probably nothing like taking the fictional drug then.

If it is the end result that interests you then you won't be disappointed in this charming Christmas Steps shop. A whole range of abstract, landscape and textile based artworks are presented inside this well fitted store. A good website shows some fine examples but there's nothing like seeing fine work 'face to face'. Christmas Steps is a wonderful place to spend some time pottering happily about and Niamh Collins Gallery is a fine complement.

Second it must have a light and airy feel and finally you have to feel free. Here we have a shop that ticks all the boxes with flying, umm colours. To say this is a shop that sells greetings cards and wrapping paper may very well not be putting it in the truest light possible. Rather it is a shop where artistic expression has run free and splashed pieces of art onto card and paper like the sunshine. More so it's a place where soft jazzy grooves fill the air and you get the impression that every last detail has been planned for with love. In short, I dig this place and highly recommend it.

It's a little sophisticated - you won't find pink teddy bear cards here. I like this, if I wanted something more everyday I can go to WH Smiths. I've been having accordion lessons with John since January 2011…read more I first saw John playing the accordion while he was busking in Clifton Village and was truly impressed by his talent and obvious love for the instrument. When I found out that he also taught, I decided to take the plunge and get the lessons I'd wanted for a while. I phoned John (a friend had picked up his business card) and he took me through what I needed to consider and gave me some really helpful, impartial advice on buying my own accordion. John's a really patient and flexible teacher and is happy to work at a pace I'm comfortable with. He's always listened to me, taking the time to understand what kind of music I wanted to play and what I wanted to achieve, and choosing pieces at my level/ shaping the lessons accordingly. I've found him to be a very positive, knowledgeable and encouraging person to learn from.
