It was desperate times for a friend of mine who had never seen a psychic before. My friend wanted me to join her but the psychic refused. She had questions written down but was not allowed to take out her notebook, take notes, or record the session. The session was $75-she was given a $100 bill and didn't have change. So it was really $100. She told my friend for $500, she would take away the negative energy around the situation my friend was there about. When she declined, the psychic changed it to $250. ZOMG, don't waste time. Where do I even begin... I made an appointment with Dorothy but when I arrived turned out that Dorothy was out of town and Kelly took the appointment for her. So it starts off as usual, you are being asked a lot of questions like what do you do, where do you work, where are you from etc. Then we are doing the cards thing. Of course problems in love life and then we start talking about it. Not willingly you engage in the convo, even though you try not to give everything away. She said my chakras need cleansing and so we did that (that was the second appointment). After the second appointment we continued our conversations only over texts and phone calls. LOOOOOOOOONG story short. Kelly said that she can fix my love life. But it will come at a cost, which is why she would always say "This is your happiness, you cannot spare an expense on that. And I know that you are successful and have money. But you have to believe me with everything you have." So I'm like okaaaaaaaaaaay. We schedule a call. She says she found the "FIX"....and it will cost me $12000.00. I'm sorry, for $12000.00 cash I can fix a lot of my problems not needing her expertise. I said WHOA $12000.00 cash? She's like yes, "but remember it is your life, your happiness". I'm thinking to myself WHAT A SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!! So I just went on with the conversation to see what else is she going to say. Then there was a second option for $6000.00 which would include her buying 34 temple candles, that she will buy for you and melt them in the temple. And one last one for ~$1300.00-1500.00. I had to buy an Amethyst crystal from her, place it at home and perform a ritual. Just so you know, this cheap option was a temporary fix...which will later require a $12K or 6K option anyways, per Kelly. LMAO.... so I say, yea sure let's do the last one, i will bring cash to your office on Saturday noon. She's happy, although she wanted to do a Quick Pay, which I said no, cash only. I would love to give this place 5 stars as I've heard nothing but good about it. Realistically, I was looking to buy some sage and inquire about other protective and cleansing items. From the reviews and photos this looked like a place that sells goods, not just services. I made the drive (around 25mins) paid the meter, and was on my way. The open sign was on, but I couldn't figure out the entrance. A lady and a man were having a conversation inside near the window. I didn't want to interrupt but kind of asked awkwardly by gesturing if I could come in. The woman hand motioned all ten fingers. I thought this meant to come back in 10mins. I waited in my car for 15mins. Came back, and this time was not acknowledged by the woman or man. I ended up taking the L and leaving. I'm not mad, but I would suggest having a "by appointment only" sign if that's the case, or turn your open sign off when doing (what looked to be) a reading. I went to see Dorothy twice the first time I called first to ask about rates. She said for a typical reading it was around 100. Okay, fine. I had some feelings and intuitions of my own that I honestly just wanted to see if I wasn't completely crazy. I sat down and was planning to write things down but she immediately started. She told me all about my past and was extremely accurate to the point of making me wonder if she had looked me up somehow. She told me I had been trying to be closer to my family, but that she was sorry to say it would never happen. Then she started in on relationships. She asked a few questions and I was purposefully not forthcoming or would skew my answer to make it easier for her to "intuit" the wrong thing. She literally called me out each time, and once even asked me a question again that I legit thought I had answered truthfully. When I thought about it, I realized that I had forgotten that I had in fact contacted one of my ex boyfriends in the last 6 months. This is when I became less skeptical. She then told me that one of my ex boyfriends was my twin flame and he and I would absolutely come back together and gave very specific timelines. She said not to bother dating anyone else and that neither he nor I would ever be happy until we came back together. She said I moved away from CO which was a mistake and that I would have to go back and told me when i would have the opportunity and to not let it go. She also knew that he had moved out of CO but said that even though he and I did t talk he spoke to me at night each day. The reading took about three hours and then she asked "how much did I say I would charge?" I thought she was going to up the price, but instead she said "I feel like I am meant to help you. I will do it for $50 but you have to follow my instructions very closely and come back tonight." I did, and she did 3 hours of energy work. No extra charge. She reached out to me 6 months later and said she felt my energy shift, which was crazy because I had just gotten back to my home in CO. She asked to see a picture and I sent one to her. She said that my energy was good and I was back on the right path. I went to see her a second time and she looked at me quizzically and said she was happy to do energy work, but that everything was going to be okay and that I didn't need her husbanded anymore. Everything has come true 100%. There are two more things that need to happen, but I can see them on the horizon. My boyfriend and I are back together, something all of my friends said I was crazy to believe would ever happen. I moved back home and feel more spiritually connected than I ever have. It hasn't been a fairy tale, like I hoped it would be. But her guidance has made me be more patient in knowing that everything will work out. And in getting back together, my boyfriend said that he would always talk to me each night. Not always in a nice "I love you" way, he admitted, but he realized he couldn't let me go. She's not a real psychic. She cold reads (look it up), and she's very intuitive so it frequently is believable. At one time I gripped to Dorothy and prayed that she was all knowing. After giving her hundreds of dollars, my boyfriend never broke it off with his other man. She promised me, and preyed on me when I was in a very vulnerable place. She was well informed of the financial strain she was putting on me, but she assured me she was doing God's work for me. I was 20 years old, and depressed as hell. She saw a killer opportunity. Telling me to pay her $300 a meditation session.... bunch of BS. Looking back on it, I was very naive and young, and a total idiot for believing her, but like I said she took my money without blinking an eye, lead me on, and delayed me from realizing the truth. Delayed me from healing. If she could do it to a 20 year old little boy, she can do it to whomever. My reading with Dorothy, around three years ago, crossed my mind today. Overall, I had an unenjoyable experience. Out of curiosity I searched her yelp page to see what other people have been reporting lately. It's interesting to see that most reviews are either five stars or just one. I decided I want to share details of my experience because I truly feel I was scammed and am interested in feedback. basic details --- - I called to make an appointment. One of the first things she said over the phone was "I don't accept groupons!" - The reading was around 10 minutes, or less, and she charged me $65. - she asked me quite a few questions statements/questions from Dorothy that I can remember --- *I want to note that just because some of the things she said were true, doesn't mean I believe she has psychic abilities. Some of these statements are very, very vague that can easily be true for an average person. - The first thing she said to me was "You're unhappy in love." Love was the single category of life that I had going for me at the time. I had been dating my boyfriend for maybe six months and was very much in the honey-moon stage. I couldn't say one negative thing about him. We have now been together for four years. I kind of laughed at her and said, "No. I'm very happy." Then she said, "Your partner is very loyal" re-directing her prediction. I wish I never responded to her in the first place. - you're very intuitive (true) - someone in your family has a family business (true) - you have a wedding coming up (true) - be aware of addiction in my boyfriend's family (true) - be careful with your boyfriend's family (makes sense) - your boyfriend has a special connection with animals - you will have two jobs through your late 20s (I have one.) - you will never make a lot of money - you are always fast pace, rushing (sure, true) - you will have two kids (I hope to have four) ^^^ This last one is the reason my reading with Dorothy pops into my head every once in a while. I walked into my tarot reading a guy that had never before visited a psychic. I walked out of my tarot reading a guy that had never before visited a psychic who just lost $35. I have never been among the psychic-going crowd, but also have never been totally opposed to the idea. I fancy myself to be spiritual, and would say that when it comes to the existence of psychic abilities I am more of a believer than a skeptic. The first thing that tipped me off was that Dorothy got really stuck on us coughing up five extra dollars for our readings. My friend (Amy) had already talked to her on the phone and scheduled our appointment. Not only did Dorothy (the alleged psychic) seem to have no idea we were coming, she changed the pricing so that we would need to give her money in addition to our $50 Yelp vouchers. Amy tried to get Dorothy to follow through with the discussed rate, but Dorothy wouldn't budge. Amy went for her reading first. Dorothy asked her to lay out some tarot cards. "I can see from this that you are very frugal," was one of the first things she mentioned. A funny insight, considering how Dorothy had refused to relent on the five dollars. "Do you see that in the cards?" Amy asked. "No," said Dorothy, "it's in your aura." Despite being a tarot reader, Dorothy never referenced the cards or made any kind of indication that she knew what the cards stood for. Next she asked Amy to talk about her life and work. Amy mentioned that she was a nurse who worked at a clinic that served patients with STIs--many of whom are LGBTQ-identified. Dorothy gave Amy a puzzled look. "Yeah, lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans..." Amy said. "Oh OK. I get it--so you mean gay people. Sorry, I thought I just heard you listing off a bunch of letters," said Dorothy. "I mean, it's an acronym," said Amy. "Oh ok, I got it. And was the last one? Trans? What does that mean--a man who makes himself look like a woman, or..." "Um, well there are male-to-female trans people and also female-to-male," Amy said--to my ears, noticeably perturbed by Dorothy's tone-deafness and shocking lack of insight. I went next. While Dorothy had me shuffle the cards, she drilled Amy even further about Trans people. I tried to focus on shuffling the cards, but felt like I was shuffling them amidst a global catastrophe. I couldn't stay focused. Dorothy had a golden opener. "I see you have a male lover in your life," she said. I looked at her blankly. "Who is it?" She pressed. "Um... I have a female lover in my life. Her name is Rosa," I said. Dorothy's eyes became saucers. "Oh, wait, I thought you both said you were part of the gay community," she looked back and forth between Amy and me in desperation. "Well," she said, collecting herself, "I can see that you and Rosa are not soulmates." "OK," I said, a little shocked she was still going for the jugular after flopping that badly. "I can see you with someone else--within two years," she said. "How long have you and Rosa been together?" "We've been together four years," I said. I didn't mention that we were getting married in three months. Dorothy remained oddly preoccupied with the "gay" thing. She later said she saw me "in a room with a man--on a bed." I stifled laughter and looked over at Amy, who was doing the same. "And there's a military uniform," Dorothy said, after a long pause. "Did you have a father or grandfather who served in the military?" "A father or grandfather?" I asked. "Yes," she said. "Not an uncle. Someone you have a direct line to." "Nope," I said. The only relative I know of who served in the military is my great uncle, who fought in World War II. My paternal grandfather didn't grow up until after WWII and worked in education after that. My maternal side is Peruvian, and that grandfather moved to the US to become a doctor, and never served in the military. "Well," Dorothy paused, "you may want to look into that." After the reading, Dorothy asked firmly that we both cough up the five dollars. She promised us 30 minutes each, but mercifully gave us 10. "Did you find your readings were accurate?" Dorothy asked. Amy and I gaped at each other quietly, searching for words. "Um, it was interesting," Amy said. "I'll have to think about it," I said. We didn't have to think long. "That was awful," Amy said seconds after we walked out. "Yes," I said. "Yes." I am open to experiencing the paranormal, but I have also been kicking around the world long enough to know that there are plenty of people willing to use psychological tricks--the appearances of "magic" or "miracles"--to take advantage of sick, heartbroken, disabled, old, or otherwise vulnerable people. During the gay-lover assertions, Dorothy feared her own tricks had become too apparent. "I am so sorry! I didn't realize you weren't really gay," she said. "No, don't apologize." I responded. Disappointed with this place. I had my reading a few months ago and nothing she predicted actually happened. I am well aware of psychics needing a connection with the person they are reading, as I also had other psychics do readings with me with much better success than with this lady. First off, she'll tell you what you already know, not predict the future. Secondly, she is all about the money. I had my first reading with her and in order to get me to come back, she told me to make an appointment 2 weeks from that date. She told me she would give me a free reading because she wanted to "help me". I made another appointment and went back. Sat in the chair and she asks me if I can pay for another reading. After explaining to her that she told me it would be free, she starts complaining how she has to be able to afford rent in Chicago, feed herself and her family, and other stuff. Yeah, I get it, but don't tell a customer you'll give them a free reading but when they return for that free reading, you tell them they have to pay and why you can't offer it for free. It's such a SCAM. She even tried selling me some of her overpriced candles, stones, and incense. I suggest people go elsewhere if you want a good reading. I recommend a phone reading over a person to person reading with anyone in Chicago, specifically, as I had the most success with psychics that were not in Chicago.
