As a student the Psychology & Philosophy Library is the sort of place I could spend a lot of time in. Whether I do or not is another matter.
Located in George Sq at the heart of student life, this small library is a university run, specialised library catering for the subjects of, you guessed it, archaeology and veterinary medicine.
Okay so its nothing so pragmatic as that. Its just shelf upon shelf of dense books asking questions like "does time exist?" and "can I really be sure I have a brain?". You know, the sort of questions only philosophers, and possibly sci-fi enthusiasts, are interested in. Any student can visit, and non-students can request special access.
Basically this is what you would expect, a huge range of classic and common (and some not so common) texts in philosophy and a wide range of textbooks in psychology (another subject I've studied in my time). Every book in your reading list will be here. The only problem is that very often the popular books are taken out, and there never seem to be enough copies to cover demand. So get here early in the year!
Of course if you're just generally interested in either of these subjects, and maybe bored of browsing the more popular titles in high street bookshops, then this library will be of value.
I love philosophy. I love reading philosophy. What's there not to like about an entire room of philosophy books!? read more
