I had need of storage space and was with this Public Storage facility for a number of years. I would NOT recommend them unless you are prepared to pay double what you sign in at. Yep. They signed me at a reasonable monthly "special" rate of 50.00 and each year raised the rent so significantly that after four years I was being charged $110.00 per month! Yikes! I was on automatic payments through my bank so it wasn't like they had any problems getting my rent on the first of the month. I did not think it was legal to do this. After four years I said enough and moved out. Also they did not clean the exterior around your unit so I was cleaning leaves and tree branches away from my garage door and there were LOTS of spiders. High rates for outside unit, not temperature controlled, full of bugs. Yuk. read more

I rented an outside storage lot for my cargo trailer in the Fall of 2021. They assigned a space in a gravel lot backing to a ravine. I asked for a pull through spot and they said they had none. Service was good, until I tried to put my equipment back in the last week of January 2022. I had asked again if any pull through spots were available and advised that I would probably move if not. They said none were open. I drove into an ICE covered lot and it was impossible to back the trailer into my assigned spot. The conditions of the lot were so dangerous and they had rented all of the spaces so that it wasn't even possible to drive around the end of the row to get out. I spent 20 minutes backing the unit up risking damaging my trailer and the other tenants parked there and finally got the HELL out of there. I called them up and said that I was cancelling due to the abysmal condition that they had allowed. This was Feb 1, 2022. On the next day they auto charged my credit card, which charge I disputed. After almost two months my credit card company said I had won the dispute, to find a letter from a collection agency two days later. No warning from this poorly managed property and I get this. I will pay it and since I am leaving the state I won't take them to small claims court, but if I had the time I would gladly do so since they don't deserve this money. The place I moved the trailer to pending my move is on Pyott Road in Lake in the Hills and they have a paved lot for ALL of their storage. There was a 4" snow early March and the lot was clear to the pavement a day later. The best part? They are less money. Less money, better managed? Your choice is clear. Avoid this poorly managed place on Rte 31 in Carpentersville. BTW, it's risky business pulling out or into their driveway off that very busy Route 31. read more

At the time of writing this (August, 2015), there is only one other review on Yelp for this particular Public Storage location, and it sounds like that person had a fairly bad experience. That said, I need to tell you that I've had a great experience so far! I started by calling the Public Storage main customer service number and got one of the most helpful customer service agents I've had from any company in quite some time. I was looking for a very particular storage need, and she said that they had two different spots for me to review at this Carpentersville location... she reserved one (that's all she could do), but wrote a note to the local agent to let them know I wanted to see both. I went there almost immediately and was greeted by a great attendant. I'm sorry to say I've forgotten her name, but she showed me both spots, and was happy to walk me around their location to do so. Very friendly. I agreed on the spot that I wanted, but didn't have everything I needed to fill out the paperwork, and was travelling the rest of the week. They didn't make any issue of that at all, and said that they'd hold it for me for another five days. I made an appointment to finalize everything with the manager, Samantha on one day, but ended up having to re-schedule based on a problem on my end. Again, no grief, no hard time... Samantha said that they'd hold the spot a couple of days longer without any problem. Finally, I made it in to finalize everything, and personally met Samantha. As with the other employee that I'd met a week earlier, she was also so helpful and friendly! The other reviewer here said something about getting talked into other purchases... I can't speak to that... in fact I didn't feel any sort of hard sell at all. Samantha also went over the lease agreement with me, got me set up on auto-pay, and made sure I understood how to manage my account and notify them if I was going to be not needing their services anymore. All in all, I've had nothing but a great on-boarding experience here and don't expect it to go sour any time soon, given the great people I've had contact with, and being set up on auto-pay so there's never a problem. This is the best storage facility that I have ever found. Samantha is amazing. She listens to your needs and responds extremely positively and with a great deal of knowledge. It is obvious that she loves her job! She is also kind and very personable. The facility is kept very clean and neat. Sucks out loud. Lots of BS surprise fees, HARD sell on crap I told them I didn't need (moving boxes, "their" lock, WAYYYY overpriced 'must have' insurance. Then today, 6/11/2015, I get a $20 "late fee", even though I moved in on 5/11/2015. About as slimy as it gets. I'm sharing this with everyone I know who needs storage. I am outta there... Stephanie was such a great help at your Carpentersville location! I came in for some boxes & she was very helpful with helping me pick out box sizes for some of my more fragile items. She also gave great advice as to not making the boxes too heavy so I wouldn't get hurt! Once I run out of these boxes I will surely return to get more!! read more

The facility is maintained very well and easy to access. Everything was thoroughly explained and shown to me. I felt that the advertising of $1 dollar first month is deceptive and if there are certain units that do not qualify for the offer, than that should be stated. Also. I did not appreciate the hard sell of the insurance which I did not need and therefore declined. Still, I feel the price is fair and am so far very satisfied with this rental. read more

Outdoor storage needs to be regraded and if it were paved it would justify the price hike I just received. Also some of the dilapidated vehicles are probably abandoned but they are just rusting away. Apparently it is standard policy to increase your rate after about 4 months. read more

After downsizing to a new place....we realized we still needed a storage facility. With the help of Samantha...we got the perfect sized storage along with anything else we needed right at the location. Samantha was very friendly and answered all our questions. I initially provided a 5-star rating for my experience at check-in. Unfortunately, I've had to lower my rating because of what happened less than 30 days later. When I checked into the unit the first time, I was given a price to cover my storage for 30 days. The person checking me in told me how much I owed for that 30 days (from 12/17/16-1/16/17). She then advised I would need to come back in by 1/16/17 to make a payment that would cover me until 2/1/17. From that point forward, it would be on a monthly payment cycle, due on the 1st. That seemed very clear to me. Because I was in the process of moving and didn't want to miss the payment due on 1/16/17, I asked if I could pay that payment right away so nothing would be due for me until 2/1/17. I ended up moving out of the unit earlier than planned on 1/12/17. So I asked for a refund for the period of 1/16/17-1/31/17 that I had prepaid. I was informed that because they work on a month-to-month cycle, I wasn't going to receive a refund. I would understand this if it was for any other month than this initial partial month AND I knew that the payment from 1/16/17-1/31/17 wasn't required to be paid at move-in. But, I am receiving no refund. Very disappointing. read more
