My sister's wedding was approximately two weeks later and I had promised her a gift from Scotland from my heritage travel trip in July 2019. So I got a tweed for me to wear to the rehearsal dinner - a beautiful dark green hand woven top. I also got her a pair of leather-palmed gloves backed with hand-woven Harris Tweed. Payment was easy as I brought currency. Some of the other customers were having problems with their cards, but I had a rule of thumb to bring and pay currency if I could and it served me well here. In terms of pricing for comparable products and production means in the United States of America, the items were a bargain. I got compliments on my tweed at the rehearsal dinner and my sister loved the gloves. Almost exactly four years later as of writing this review, on Tuesday 11 July 2023, my tweed remains in good condition and the elastic at the neckline, cuffs, and bottom remain stretchy.

This is for their shop in Tarbet. The selection is excellent and the staff is nice, but I was…read moreshocked to find that they did not offer VAT refund slips to non-EU customers. Their first excuse was that it takes too much time (it doesn't, the slips print right out when a sale is rung up) and when I challenged that they switched to "we don't have that software." (Well get it, just like a million other shops in Scotland.) These are big-tickets items and I left a bunch of money on the table by not getting the VAT back. My impression is that the program rewards the shops, too, so it's really foolish of them not to have it. I'd already bought a coat (and it's nice, I really like it) but was going to go back to get a sport jacket and didn't because of the lack of VAT refund. So they lost a sale. They probably lose quite a few.

I didn't realize it was one of only two tanneries left in the United Kingdom. We are so glad we stopped and found such a friendly local artisan to learn about and purchase from.

We parked at the parking space and as soon as we got out of the car, we were greeted by two people. They showed us the the process and the history of the shop. It was interesting. The showroom upstairs features merchandise of good quality. I settled for a pet mat for my dog, which I got for a nice bargain price. Wish i could take more things on the plane with me, but I'm pleased worth my purchase. I'm glad we decided to visit the shop. If I ever visit Skye again, i will definitely come back to this nice shop :)

I have visited this gallery 4 or 5 times and our house has numerous paintings by this artist (I…read moreforget his name). He is especially good at houses which are somewhat dilapidated and has done a special one for my family of the house we purchased on Skye before and after the renovations. This now has pride of place atop the fire place and is admired by all who visit the house. More recently his wife has become a rather talented photographer and her work is also now on sale in the gallery and is well worth a look, especially of those interested in animal photography. He is somewhat out of the way up there but if you are in Dunvegan then be sure to go and see him and his wife, they are lovely people.
