This time was just pathetic. There was a smell as soon as you walked in, that should have been enough to get me to turn around. The carpet ,who puts carpet in a restaurant, was fraying and nearly made me trip. The table hadn't been wiped down. We had to ask for silverware after the food arrived. The menu stated that the soup came with crusty bread. The table next to us had it with their soup, but when mine came there were two pieces of sliced sandwich bread. The mushy peas with the haddock was garden peas not marrowfat peas. The chips had a bunch of black rotten bits. The music was so depressing, it all sounded like Lana Del Ray. The Ship offers food at fantastic prices and I have to say, always delicious…read more However it's not just the great food that makes The Ship great, to sit by the riverbank in the summer and have a few cheeky continental lagers whilst the weather is good is the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon, plus the girlfriend seems to like it, giving me serious brownie points when I suggest going there! My only minor negative is that it's not within walking distance of my house, so I can't make it my local!

The atmosphere is lively and upbeat with a jukebox, several TV's all showing different channels and a real mixture of people in the place (Our group consisted of some old fuddy duddies like me and some well behaved kids!). The pool tables are in excellent condition and after we finished with ours, the guy behind the bar came out and cleaned it, I don't think I've ever seen that happen anywhere else! There are some other activities that we did't get time to try like Snooker and Darts and there are also some quiz machines and even Jenga if that appeals to you. We found the prices to be reasonable and managed to get a pool table for the entire evening for around £16. Slim Jims caters for a mixture of modern and old world tastes and I'll make sure I visit again next time I'm in the UK!
