I was able to take two introduction courses and found them to be both challenging and fun! The environment is supportive and welcoming, with mostly female classes. There's definitely a slight bit of a learning curve learning the moves, that might require you to take a few classes before you feel have it figured out. Is it just me being old or is it just a tad too loud in this studio? I fear I'm probably just too old. I had always belonged to a large gym. After the pandemic, I joined Pure Barre in Park Slope and have never looked back. Classes are in a small setting where the instructors are friendly, high energy, knowledgeable, and still able to give you individual correction on positioning and technique. FYI this place has a zero strike lateness policy. Fiancée was 5 minutes late to her first class (uber got stuck in traffic, ironically she was ubering to be on time) and was not allowed in and then on top of that was charged a $25 late fee by Pure Barre & Class Pass. The front desk worker even saw her waiting forever to cross the street because of traffic, still denied. Her friend said she saw her from inside the class and the class had JUST started and she was still denied. I'm so happy I switched from Pure Barre Flatiron to Pure Barre Park Slope in my neighborhood. Totally opposite experiences and environments. I love how this location is super diverse and inclusive (gender, race, demographic, body type, outfits, styles, etc), the teachers and staff are kind, calm, knowledgeable and hands-on helpful, the studio is spacious, plenty of class/time availability, and there's never any aggressive sales tactics. I was a little skeptical after subpar experiences at Flatiron (lack of diversity, aggressive sales tactics at every visit and texting me multiple times a day at all hours, and rude treatment from the owner when I didn't succumb to sales pressures). Just like any other fitness studio, you need to give it a shot and find instructors you like. I wouldn't expect to learn how to ride a bike or swim in one go, so why would I expect to know what a good instructor is like? That being said I found myself gravitating to Pure Barre studios when I traveled to different U.S. cities and Canada for work and overall found it such a positive experience versus yoga classes for example being hit or miss. Yes, it can feel fast-paced in the beginning and you might feel a little lost, as with anything new. It can feel 'clique-y' only because other women attend often so they know the moves--but don't fret, you can learn them too! Do follow the suggestion of arriving 10-15mins early so you can get a lowdown from the instructor and introduce yourself. There are wonderful instructors who do hands on adjustments and give the peppy motivation you're looking for or would expect from say a boutique spin studio. Also note that there are no showers (as with many studios in the area) and it can get crowded at peak post workday evening times. I know I felt very self-conscious about being new and 'shaking' but now that I've been consistently going for a month or so, it's amazing to feel my own inner strength grow and see my own progress. They also offer newer 'Empower' classes which are closer to cross training (i.e. more cardio, step platforms) which definitely will give you a deeper 'sore' ha P.S. this studio and other Pure Barre studios are on ClassPass so you can pay only ~$15-18 per class a max of 3x a month. I've been doing Pure Barre for 2+ years but went to the Park Slope studio for the first time last weekend. The teachers at this location are the same at Cobble Hill, and they are all wonderful and amazingly helpful throughout class. One of things I love is that the teachers remember you by name and truly want to make sure you get the most out of each class. They're hands-on and will walk around throughout class to adjust you or help you with modifications if needed. It honestly doesn't matter how hardcore or not you work out, this class really is tailored to everyone and wherever you're at physically. I have never felt judged or less than if I decide to take it down a notch in class or don't make it for the entire round of straight arm push ups and have to go to my knees, and it's actually encouraged so you don't push yourself too far and hurt yourself. The workout itself is TOUGH, and it doesn't really get "easier" (I guess you learn to keep pushing yourself even after you get the hang of it!) but 2 years later and I'm still seeing positive changes with my body and strength. I can't imagine life without it now and can't recommend it enough! Plus, they offer a month (or maybe 5 weeks) of unlimited classes for $149 if you've never signed up before. Ouch. I completed my first ever barre class at this still-newish Park Slope location of Pure Barre this morning and I can tell I'm going to have some DOMS tomorrow. I went through ClassPass which of course makes any $$ class a great deal, but they do have a new member special as well (1 month of unlimited classes for $150). I love that their scheduling is staggered so there's 35 minutes or so between classes. This ensures that there's enough lockers for everyone and the waiting room/reception area up front doesn't get too crowded. One of my bigger pet peeves around many group fitness classes is the crazed rush to throw one's mat down/get a spot. Jessica was a great instructor and explained the moves to us newbies and offered adjustments as necessary. Maybe due to my running (and sometimes spin) focus this year, all of the tucking and lifting did not come naturally to me, so it was nice to get into proper alignment. I'm definitely looking forward to my next class here; reception and other students were very friendly and welcoming. Now to get some sticky socks. read more

Realllly not my thing. Too slick. Too branded. Too too too. The space was clean, and the instructor was pleasant enough, I guess. She spent a few minutes of one-on-one time before the class giving an overview to me and another new person. That being said, once the class started, it was extremely fast paced, and while she did make some corrections to form, there is a learning curve to the "language" and instruction given. I couldn't tell if I was doing it right, and clarity doesn't seem to be PB's objective. PB is all about their specific technique and brand, which ultimately came off as uninviting and more about the business model. I'm no stranger to fitness classes or ballet, but I wouldn't call this ballet OR barre. I wouldn't mind so much, but I didn't break a sweat or feel that I worked muscles especially hard. Eh. I tried. But ultimately, I'll pass. read more

This is the best Pure Barre location I've been to. The facility is clean with an intuitive layout. It's busy, but never a mob scene where you can't find enough space. The clientele are varied (you won't be the only person there who can't hold a plank for 10 minutes) but the classes are still challenging. What I like most, though, is the instructors. They're all very friendly and, unlike Pure Barre instructors I've taken elsewhere, direct the class through clear, accessible sequences. In most Pure Barre classes I feel like already having superior core strength is a prerequisite to performing many of the movements, but the moves the instructors here give are doable if you don't, or can be modified. I leave actually sore, rather than barely sweating but glad I faked it through the sequence without looking too silly :) They're also hands on without compromising the pace of the class, and remember regular clients after as few as 2-3 visits! read more

Get ready to sweat! ( not because of the work out) but because the over lighting in this studio is so bright and and intense you're breaking a sweat before you even start. If it wasn't for that I would give this studio 4 stars, but those lights really knock it down for me. Besides the lighting the studio it self is very nice. Clean and open and enough space to accommodate people coming/going from classes. Also although I usually do get a decent barre work out here, this studio doesn't switch it up very much. Every time I go it's nearly the same routine. I know pure barre is structured but I've attended other locations and each time is different work out, here it's often the same moves. Other than that it's pretty standard pure barre and if you're in the area definitely worth it to try. read more

Have gone to other Pure Barre's in New York and this one was the best so far! Staff was very friendly and helpful as I was new to the studio. The instructors were very helpful during class, adjusting my form throughout and keeping us motivated. I went at least 3 times a week and each class felt different than the one before which is what I was looking for! Every class I went to here for sure made me SWEAT and WORK! Loved it and would definitely recommend going! I live in Downtown Brooklyn so it's an easy walk or subway to Union Station or Barclay's. read more

I was excited when Pure Barre opened just a few blocks from me. I had only done similar workouts - I am absolutely obsessed with it now. I signed up for the monthly unlimited and seriously could not get enough. I will definitely continue to go to this Pure Barre. They execute the sessions flawlessly every time. It is very consistent class after class - no matter which instructor - they are all great. There is just enough variation in the exercises and music. While it is painful, it is also calming. read more

I have had a really great experience with Pure Barre Park Slope so far. The owner and staff have been incredibly kind and a pleasure to deal with. The studio is conveniently located and, while small-ish, is really cute and kept super clean. No showers but that's not an issue for me since I'm usually going home after, and they do have changing rooms and a bathroom, of course. Also, it's not like Soul Cycle where they purposely keep the room super hot so you're drenched in sweat when you leave the class. You sweat, for sure, but you can still walk out of there after the cool down looking human. I'm still very much a beginner but I've yet to take a class that wasn't challenging and still (somehow) enjoyable. I always feel great after I leave and I have already started to notice some physical changes as well as some improvements in my strength and stamina from one class to the next. I thought that was great, but am still pretty mystified about how the original employee was confused about policy. The class was good and everyone at the front desk was friendly. I wish there should have been more explanation of the basic moves at the beginning of the class and more modifications offered. read more

I work out out 3/6 times a week, all classes. In the last few years I have taken classes at TriBeCa Bari, AKT, Physique 57 and Brooklyn Bodyburn all positive experiences. So I was extremely excited when Pure Barre opened 5 blocks from my house in Park slope. I tried a class, as expensive as a manhattan studio but definitely a sub par barre workout and no basics such as towels, showers etc. So I gave it a miss. Until they offered a new class, platform, which is a decent workout. I am never late but stuff happens. This morning I showed up at 12.02 for a 12noon class and I was not allowed into the room. This is unheard of. All other studios I've gone to give a 5 minute grace period or allow you to enter as long as the warm up in still in progress. So a total waste of money. No more pure barre for me. read more
