Early 2020, I went to a pop-up workout class in Durham where a new instructor was teaching a Barre3…read moreclass. I didn't know what Barre3 was at that time, but I thoroughly enjoyed that class. At the end of the event, I purchased a 5 class pass and was hoping to use it throughout 2020... which ended up not happening. By the time the gym was re-opening, I barely had enough time to use any of the passes. I contacted Barre3 - Chapel Hill, and they honored my purchase and extended it for one more year. So I got to use the passes this spring! Like a lot of people, I gained some weight through pandemic as I was moving a lot less: So I'm pretty out of shape. I only went to Sunday classes as I live in Durham, and this place it a bit of a drive for me. The receptionists are always friendly. I think I've met at least two different ladies, but they were all friendly and made me feel welcome although I'm not a regular. The instructors! I've worked out with two different instructors, and they were all friendly and all super fit & strong. They gave me many modification options throughout the classes which I appreciate so much since I'm very out of shape. Every single class, I left feeling sweaty but refreshed. I usually bring my own water bottle and a towel, but there are lots of towels for you to grab by the receptionist desk. I love that Barre3 is a combination of cardio and muscle work out. After going to classes consistently for couple weeks (only once a week though), I feel stronger. I really wish this location was closer to home (almost 30 minutes from where I live), so I could come here more often. I'm hoping to get random drop in classes as I loved it so much. Thank you, Barre3!

I was a client of this studio and have recently been in complete shock due to their service. This…read morestudio is constantly changing its rules, and they only notify you about it in emails along with advertisements. There are no notifications about these changes in the client's personal account. Recently, I was 5 minutes late for a class due to traffic (I was coming from a neighboring town), and I was not allowed in! The door was closed. It was just terrible! Previously, I had been late for classes, as had other clients, and everyone was let in. But it turns out the rules suddenly changed. I wrote to the manager, and she said that "I had opened the notification emails." It's simply disgusting to scold a client about whether they read the promotional emails to explain a rule violation. Yes, I opened the email, saw it was an advertisement, and deleted it. Barre sends notifications at the very end of the email, which is not obvious at all. What's even worse - I was late to the next class, and since I had already had a negative experience, I decided to skip it. The next day, I saw that I was charged for the missed lesson! The studio took money from me for a class I had already paid for!!! This is simply unacceptable. I'm punished both for being late and for not showing up. Checkmate! As a client who got held up at work, I'm in a no-win situation! I have never seen such terrible rules. They are constantly changing, and you never know what to expect. I have completely lost all desire to continue with barre.

I've been doing JAR Barre for more than a year, so it's time to share some opinions…read more First off, barre itself is a serious workout. Or it _can_ be, depending on your effort. This makes it fairly easy for beginners: the basic positions and movements are manageable by anyone, but intensity ramps up by dipping down a little lower, raising a leg a little higher, stretching a little farther, etc. If you really dig in, it can work you harder than any weight room session -- but you're always in control of that burn. As for Judy, she's vivid proof of barre's benefits and a constant inspiration. She's encouraging, observant, and provides discreet feedback/correction when form starts to stray. She's also terrific at keeping things interesting for regulars: maybe three-fourths of any workout will be familiar, but new challenges are always being introduced, which keeps us on our toes (sometimes literally). JAR Barre was the best thing I did for myself last year.

There's barre class, and then there is JAR barre!! For the past year I have faithfully practiced…read morebarre with Judy and I am thrilled with the results. What makes Judy's class different from other barre classes is that she is a professional body builder. She knows exactly which movements will make the muscles defined and how the body needs to look balanced from head to toe. She has the ability to tailor the exercise to all skill levels, so everyone feels welcome no matter the abilities. Judy is also skilled in differentiating the exercises so we never repeat ourselves, no plateauing! She is motivating through leading by example, along with her very friendly demeanor. For many years I ran long distances, supported this training with yoga and boot camp, then added JAR barre a year ago. After just a few weeks I noticed the legs and glutes were more defined than ever before. I'm a believer! I throughly love her classes, will continue to practice with her 2-3xs a week and will join her to any studio where she teaches. Thank you JAR!

This is exactly the workout I've been looking for! I had previously tried boot camps, crossfit,…read morespin, barre... but Orangetheory is the workout that I actually look forward to doing. In an hour-long workout you rotate between rowing machines, treadmills and free weights/TRX for the perfect mix of cardio and strength training. Plus, the instructors at the Meadowmont location are fantastic. They keep you on track and motivated, and provide great instruction so you perform the exercises with the proper form. And, by using the heart rate monitor to track my effort level throughout the workouts, I've seen significant improvement in my performance over the past three months.

Love OTF.... but current Meadowmont OTF studio customer service sucks…read more After 18 months loving my OT Beat Link (Apple Watch heart rate monitor), I recently lost it. It was a great option for me so I bought a replacement OT Beat Link ($140) on Monday at Meadowmont which is currently my home studio. I finally *found* my lost OT Beat Link on Tuesday night (of course ;-), and then proceeded to return the never-used-still-in-the-box-with-all-the-parts new OT Beat Link on Wednesday morning at Meadowmont. I was informed there is a strict no return policy for all heart rate monitors... doesn't matter if the device is still in the box and has never been used. I hate to give the Meadowmont OTF studio a negative review. I have been an OTF member based at Meadowmont studio for over 8 years, and overall OTF is awesome. I wish current Meadowmont OTF management had better customer service, IMO they used to do much better. Luckily there are several OTF studio options in the area and I would highly recommend trying those over Meadowmont.... I have found the MLK OTF studio in Durham to be a superior option and there are a couple other studios in the Chapel Hill/Durham area.

Even after coming to new hope commons for years I am only just finding this hole in the wall!…read more I did the Sculpt class with Bridget and boy was it tough. It was a full body work out in 50 mins and I think it was pretty fast paced but got in some burns. I think my preference would be slower paced work outs but the choreography was interesting and made sense for a full body session! The place is a little hard to find but thankfully I followed others who were in fitness clothes and made my way upstairs ok. The studio used was clean and I loved that all of our supplies were set out with a mat all ready to go. I do wish the classes orientation (the room itself) wasn't so narrow and long as it was hard to see the instructors movements around other people but she did her best to go on each side of the room for the exercises and did them all with us which was also nice. Can't speak on price since I found this place through class pass but I do think if you are looking for a hard, fast paced, heart rate up, and well rounded class this one was a good one

Her energy, excitement, music list and full sixty minute workout will leave you feeling addicted. The great thing about the PopUp Workout is you can literally do it anywhere! Make sure you wear clothes you are comfortable working out in and getting sweaty in {also wear tennis shoes!} as well as a: yoga mat {Katie usually has some extras just in case you forget!}, water bottle and towel {this is not make or break but I highly recommend if you're prone to sweating!} PopUp provides you with all the other essentials including "gliders" {paper plates}, a small rubber ball and two types of fitness bands. One thing I love about these workouts is that you could replicate everything at home, most of us have the "materials" around our house! PopUp now has about fourteen classes a month around Durham/Chapel Hill area including yoga, pilates, HITT, PopUp Tone and "Tighten 'n' Tone". The classes I've had with Katie have been full body: arms, legs, butt and abs. These classes do cater to a slightly older crowd (late thirties to early fifties range, women only), although I'm in my mid-twenties and I love these workouts! Plus, their rates are very reasonable for the workout you receive! So get out there cardio junkies and try at PopUp Workout!

I thought "why not?" especially when most yoga drop in classes are $15+ I ended up going to class nearly everyday while I had this newcomers deal and of course it got me hooked! Started off with the mellow beginners classes and slowly integrated into the vigorous class. Mellow class: very beginner friendly and typically has around 5-15 people attending. Expect slowly, restoring poses. They do have mats that you can use: Vigorous classes: hotter and sweaty! Hard but don't let it be a reason you don't go. It's challenging but a good, healthy challenge. I'm no yogi not even close but I do enjoy these classes :) All of the teachers are very kind and knowledgeable. I really hate that you have to pay for parking on days outside of Sunday and therefore, I probably won't go to the studio during a weekday or Saturday for that reason. I understand that Franklin Street is pretty busy, and it's not really their fault but it's just a financial inconvenience. I really wish that the instructor would've been doing the movements with us. It seems like others have taken classes, and the instructor doesn't necessarily participate. I feel like this helps with pacing and understanding when holding a pose is on the brink of being too long (maybe I'm just not as used to holding warrior 1&2 for so long in any classes I've taken but my quads were about to give out. If they aren't doing the pose with us, I don't know if they can tell when a pose is too long. The studio itself was very cute and very clean and well organized with a ton of supplies available for students. I really love their choice of music which was very calming and wasn't anything crazy. I love at the end of class they give you a little eye mask and by the time we went into meditation at the end, I completely forgot where I was and was zoned out, which was awesome. I'll be interested to see how other teachers do later on and how their pacing is. I also completely forgot my mat at home and was very thankful when they offered me a borrowed one!!
