Aura is one of the most luxe spas I have been to and I loved every minute of it. I had booked a Luxury Spa Pedicure which turned out to be 45 minutes and £40 pounds worth of heaven on earth. Even though I was there for a relatively short treatment (you can spend the whole day there, what bliss), I was shown to the very swish changing room and invited to put on one of those thick perfectly white bath robes that people embarrass themselves by stealing from five star hotels. I was then shown to the pedicure chair which was attached to a footbath which had, I kid you not, flowers floating in it. I then spent 10 minutes with my feet in delish smelling hot water, flicking through celeb mags and generally congratulating myself on my good fortune. Next my feet were anointed with some very expensive lotion and then my nails were filed and polished to perfection. I had somewhere else to be afterwards but had I had time I could have spent as long a s I wanted in the lounge area sipping tea or fruit juice and reading more glossies. Aura is not a cheap place to while away the hours but boy is it worth it. They do gift vouchers so start perfecting the art of dropping hints!

I felt special from the moment I walked in and didn't mind stripping down to my nags in front of strangers as the girls are lovely, really chatty and interested in the customers needs. I was very pleased with the eyebrow wax and felt they had really got all the stray little brutes that other places miss sometimes. And my tint was a very deep black just as I wanted - I left feeling on top of the world and looking forward to my next visit.

I went for a wax the day before my holiday and quickly developed symptoms following the appointment. I ended up at an emergency doctor on the first night of my holiday, whose diagnosis was a bacterial infection caused by the waxing. I immediately contacted Radiance to inform them of my situation. They dismissed the diagnosis, claiming it to be a mere allergic reaction to their honey wax. Although I have incurred high medical costs and a ruined holiday, the worst part of this experience was having been made to feel at fault and completely disrespected by the customer service team at Radiance. I had expected an apology at most, but instead received rude, contemptuous responses. I resorted to seeking advice from my old salon, who were able to provide reassurance which Radiance made no effort to do. I have never been mistreated like this by any salon, let alone by any organisation in the customer service industry.

There was a large cat lounging on the waiting sofa and the whole place was filthy and smelt of smoke. I was just contemplating leaving when I was told I was ready to be taken and shown to one of the treatment rooms. Ahead of getting changed I ventured to the loo - upon seeing the toilet I decided against using it. It was dirty, without toilet roll, soap or hot water. The treatment room was grubby and also smelt of stale smoke - but I'd come this far.....the 'massage' was one hour of being rubbed with no pressure, rhythm or professional feel to it. After the awkward hour was over I was very relieved to be able to leave - passing the salon cat leisurely sprawling on a treatment bed as I went. All evening my eyes were sore and itchy - and this morning I have awoken to find them swollen, ever more itchy and uncomfortable. The only conclusion I can come to is that at some point the cat was lying on the massage bed I was on, and I have spent an hour with my face on cat hair and I have had a reaction.
