I used to visit the chandler shop before they moved here. Good selection of gear, reasonable prices, and stocked with everything that you need. The staff is young but they are polite and very helpful. I would much rather purchase gear here as opposed to one of the giant online retailers. read more

We used to shop at the store before they move into AZ ice, and this was our first time in the new location for a full hockey gear refit for our son. We were helped by Kevin, who was kind enough to assist us throughout our entire shopping experience. He made sure that we were getting the best gear to fit our son, without trying to upsell for the sake of higher-priced gear. BTM used to be solid. They had people who would answer questions and had a good inventory. Most of the old people have left and the new people seem to hate their job. They don't want to answer questions and I would not recommend getting skates sharpened by the. Inventory has gotten worse and it is harder and harder to find youth sizes. Online has become the go to as I can't trust getting things here anymore. read more

This is a good hockey supply store . Arizona isn't exactly an ice hockey Mecca, so it can be tough to find stuff you need. Most rink pro shops are pretty pricey and not well stocked. Behind the Mask has a good consistent track record of quality products and in stock supply. The staff is generally knowledgeable, with many of them playing local hockey. This is good. The prices can be high but that is expected in a desert market for ice hockey. This is generally my first stop for any skates, equipment or sticks. read more

What a great experience! As a new hockey player I was a bit intimidated when I entered the shop. My wife and I were immediately welcomed by two employees and made to feel very comfortable. Zero egos in this shop. Even the owner, former NHL player, was very nice and had a great sense of humor. Excellent work boys! read more

Had a decent visit to this store for the first time yesterday. I believe it was about middayJune 28, 2016. First guy behind the counter lazily answered my question, but really did not engage on a friendly level, as you would expect from a sales associate. Had I left at that point, I would not have even written a review. Then a gentleman named Davis stepped in. This guy rocks, and I am really hoping the store manager reads this. Davis talked to us about the different options that would satisfy our needs, and explained the pro and cons of each one. He listened to our concerns, and then pointed us towards the gear. After making our choices, he checked out our purchases while the other guy was busy being on his phone. I will definitely shop here again, but hope that Davis is there and not the other guy.(That guy should spend less time on his phone and his hair, and just focus on being friendly and interacting with customers. I've had the same experience as many others in that most of the workers go totally out of their way to help their customers out, especially the new players who have no idea what gear to get. Having said that, there is an occasional sales associate who doesn't give a crap and will lazily point customers in the right direction while adjusting his hockey flow (or Beiber hair, depending on the age of the person). This is partly because Randy, the owner, hires people who know about hockey rather than those who are good at customer service. The other thing that I don't particularly like is that the smallest size Randy usually orders for goalie pads is 34'-- usually 34 + 1, which are way too big for many goalies, including me, so you may have to custom order something from them and wait for it to arrive. I'd also like to see some female employees at some point. Women play hockey, too! And they know more about the kinds of gear that will work for other women, since almost all gear is made for men (I have to adjust everything I buy and it takes me forever to find things that will fit me). Also, keep an eye out for Sasha, Randy's German shepherd, who sometimes visits the Scottsdale store. Super cute and it's fun to rile her up right before you leave so the employees have to deal with a super energetic dog. Just as a further FYI-- the Peoria store is the smallest, the Chandler store has mostly forward gear, and the Scottsdale store is the one to visit for goalie stuff. read more

Very helpful staff. I bought skates here a couple years ago & did not use them much due to blister. After buying superfeet insoles and baking the skates a second time, i no longer get the blister! Great prices on sticks in clearance section. Nice and helpful staff! read more

Amazing place!! I've never played hockey before and was looking for a place that would help me get all the proper gear. This place was perfect for that. They have a beginners special that gets you completely suited up in all the gear you need to start out with, and gives you a 20% discount for buying everything together. The service was great! They made sure all the gear fit well and made sure I was getting the gear appropriate for the type of hockey I would be playing. The staff was extremely knowledgeable and happily answered all the questions I had. Also, the prices are comparable to online prices, and even cheaper with the 20% bundled discount. I highly recommend this place. They have a great selection, great customer service, and good prices! read more

I had an issue with one of my skates with the rivets popping out. I thought it was going to be a bigger expense than it was but the gentleman working there only replaced the rivets needing to be replaced which was 3 and only cost $3 total! He didn't try to up sale me on anything and was very efficient in the repair. They earned my business for any future repairs or purchases! read more

They spent a solid hour with my son to make sure all gear fit him perfectly, custom fit his helmet, cut his stick to the perfect length, taped it like a pro, and sharpened his blades. The service was great and the prices were reasonable (they were cheaper than Amazon). I'm sure we will be back again and again. read more

Behind the mask has officially lost my business. I went there a couple weeks ago to buy my son new skates but they did not have his size. They suggested that I Drive to their Scottsdale store instead. That's too much of a drive so I ordered them online. When I receive them in the mail I took them to behind the mask to get sharpened. They wanted $15 to sharpen his skates because I did not buy the Skate through them. It's six or seven dollars anywhere else you go. The people that work at behind the mask are not helpful and definitely not nice or customer friendly. This Is this one expensive sport and I will now take my business elsewhere. read more

We started coming here last year when our son started playing hockey. The entire staff is extremely helpful and never treats you different for not knowing anything about what you need! lol! They've made each decision and purchase easy, and have educated us on so much! Jamie has helped us most often, and is great with our kids.
