Purple Wave is a legitimate auction house, but purchases there can be risky. Since the equipment is located at the owner's place of business, not the auction yard, the purchaser must trust the auction house and also trust the equipment owner. In my case, the owner felt that his equipment did not sell for the amount that he had expected. To make up for this, the equipment owner withheld several valuable components. Purple Wave asked the owner to produce the items. The owner admitted that he still had them, but refused to give them up. Purple Wave has very little power to enforce the sale and delivery of their auction items; their service is limited to arranging the sale and collecting a percentage, the same percentage that a regular full-service auction house collects. Since any Purple Wave auction item may involve a disgruntled owner, a purchase through Purple Wave Auction involves that additional risk. I purchased a 2016 Ford Explorer through Purple Wave Auctions and had a very frustrating experience trying to get the title. They require buyers to wire transfer or pay within 2 days of the auction ending, but then expect customers to wait up to 30 days to receive the title unless you pay an additional $50 fee to have it sent faster. When I called to ask about the delay, I was told there was a note in their system stating that my mother would be picking up the title in person. That never happened and was never authorized by me. The representative admitted they are "understaffed" and "a month behind on mailing titles," which they claimed was the reason for the mistake. Poor communication, delays, and inaccurate information made this process much more difficult than it should have been. Bought a semi truck on PW. Description: windshield cracked Well, the seller forgot to mention: NO air brakes, engine leaking heavily , lights only working patial, just to name the major things. Absolute Fraudulent Business Practices - Bait and switch I bought a 1998 JCB 214 s Backhoe - the Purple Wave Listing / Photographer Associate listed that the only deficiencies were "a cracked windshield and A/C belt had been removed- stated that the machine had 400 hours. In truth- the front windshield was not cracked but completely shattered- door glass was missing - corner side glass has holes through it. The diesel injection pump was leaking like a faucet. Missing engine covers that the seller agreed to include. Much more dishonest/ fraudulent behavior. The auction was stated to end at 10 am - I put in the last bid at $14,500 -they extended the bidding for 5 minutes each time a new bid was placed. They knew my max bid - and I can't prove it - but I am quite convinced that the Purple Wave "ran the bid up"- to my Max I received no help and or support from the company - In fact they were almost impossible to reach - when I finally was able to contact someone in the office - they told me somebody else "dealt with that" and would call me back within 2 weeks - They NEVER did. I've been buying from PW for 7 years. This is what I've learned....their business model and organization is extremely flawed. They rely heavily on buyers, hence the 10% premium you pay. But at the same time, they need items to sell. So they only charge $100 to list an item to attract sellers, that way they can get that 10% from the buyers. Only problem is that they protect their sellers 100%. If you've got a truck with an engine going out, use Purple Wave. If you've got a loader that needs the entire undercarriage rebuilt, use Purple Wave. Anything you have that is busted but you can't tell by just pictures, you're in luck. Purple Wave reps will angle pics, fall back in videos and intentionally leave out information that would sway your buying decision. Why do this to the group that's responsible for 95% of their revenue? Because with every dissatisfied customer there's 3 more naive customers waiting to be taken advantage of. PW needs those high bid numbers to show potential selling clients that they can bring the big numbers. But you've spent tens or hundreds of thousands with them? Of course they'll make things right. Just contact your regional rep or higher up the idiot chain to get a big middle finger that ultimately translates to "don't trust our buyers and definitely don't trust our paid reps; it's their job to screw you over. Best go out and check out that unit all on your own." Now, unlike most auctions where the buying and selling premiums are about equal and there's full transparency to protect both sides, PW believes they can screw over buyers year after year because the supply of buyers is never ending. Or maybe that's why they finally decided to sell.... 5 stars because the ease of use, item pick up location, delivery methods, and website. I've purchased many items through PW and sometimes the items are just as described and other times the items may have been better or worse. As with any auction site, it's the buyers responsibility to actually inspect the item. I've purchased items where I actually inspected them beforehand, and purchased items without inspections. If you buy without inspecting then buyer beware. I highly recommend inspecting the item especially if you are on a fixed income and your purchase is a necessity for your life or business. read more

Stay away and buyer beware! Purple Wave Auctions does not hold the sellers accountable to be factual on what they are selling. They did not state the item I purchased was a reproduction (fake). I called Purple Wave Auction Management regarding this and they were not concerned at all. They got their commission and that is all that matters. BEWARE OF PURPLE WAVE! I bought a vehicle from them and they and the seller lied about the condition. They said it was just worked on by a mechanic and everything was working fine. I paid $1000 to send two employees down to pick it up and we discovered that the actual condition of the vehicle was horrible. It didn't start, it had wires cut out and missing, oil in coolant, tranny plug missing and fluid gone, grafitti on vehicle, animals living in it(feces all over), and many more issues. I have tried contacting Purple Wave to have them give me my money back but they aren't responding and they don't care! I wouldn't buy anything from these crooks again! Do not use their auction site. They charged me an extra $100 listing fee on an item I listed with them and then promised to return it. I contacted the district manager for my area, Mike Spradlin, and he assured me that he would take care of it. Like a dummy, I believed him and listed another item with them. Not only have they not returned my $100 that they promised me, but they again charged me $100 fee on the second item. I contacted him again and he said that he would take care of the entire $200 even if he had to pay it himself. That was a week and a half ago and he still hasn't done anything. Bought a bobcat and when the shipping company went to pick it up, the machine had a major hydraulic leak...not disclosed. Purple Wave inspection is minimal and very misleading. The owner lied about the condition of the machine, and when i emailed the seller, he admitted that in writing. Purple Wave doesn't care about fraudulent listing, just the money the made. They will allow blatant misrepresentation, then will say everything is sold as-is. If you choose to buy from them, I hope you stole it. You will be fixing it. Bought a tractor listed on a Purple Wave auction in winter 2015. Tractor was listed as a 20 speed unit with creeper gears. When it arrived it was only 12 speed. Whole reason I bought and shipped it was for creeper transmission. Purple Wave employees kindly reminded me that I signed an agreement noting they are not responsible for listing errors, and that I should have inspected machine myself. Was offered a refund of buyers fee but am still out thousands in an overbid due to incorrect description and shipping costs. Good reminder that many internet auctions are a scam or at least a crap shoot. Take Purple Wave at their word that they take no responsablity for listing errors, which means bidding with them is a serious gamble. read more
