Pymble Gourmet Food and Coffee House
Conveniently located directly opposite Pymble Train Station, this is the place where the businessmen and women of this particular North Shore suburb flock for their pre-train coffee. It's nothing special to look at - think every single hole-in-the-wall fish 'n' chips shop/chicken shop/almost cafe in your life. But then, it doesn't claim to be anything special - this is probably the first review ever written about it. It's no five star fine-dining experience, no cosy cafe. But what it does - provide coffee, sandwiches, burgers, hot chips and a well-stocked drinks fridge to the commuters of Pymble - it does brilliantly.
The service is great, with a lovely proprietor who is incredibly friendly and smily, even at eight am. It's also very quick - less than a minute after asking for my train coffee, I receive it and warm wishes for a lovely day! The coffee itself is good - strong, but not overpoweringly so, but my request for one sugar seems to have manifested as a coffee twice as sugary as requested.
The food is also good - although «gourmet» might be a bit of a stretch. Pymble Gourmet Food and Coffee House provides a wide range of delicious-looking ingredients for both the carnivorous and vegetarian amongst us, on equally delicious bread. My choice of red onion, lettuce and chicken breast on Turkish Bread was certainly a rewarding one - I was full and happy for the rest of the morning. With a price of less than eight dollars, my wallet was also smiling.
What I thought was a questionable decision by my companion to get a burger - at 8am - turned out to be a great choice; the meat was lean and tasty, the bread thick and perfect for soaking up juices, and the other ingredients a delicious compliment.
