Tried the AYCE dim sum brunch. The price has went up to $32 for adults and $16 for kids 5-12. There is no parking lot so you can park at the Waverly Parking Lot. There's only free parking on Sundays. Most of the dim sum we selected were delicious such as the triple layer doupi, Beijing duck bao, mini Lion's head, pork soup dumpling, and beef wide noodle, for entrees and lava walnut bao, baked egg yolk lava bun, and mini rice ball in wine broth for dessert. The pork soup dumplings were full of soup. The desserts, roast pork pastry, and pork shu mai were hot and freshly cooked. For soup, I liked the pork ribs and lotus soup better than the fish ball soup which was bland. I've had better cucumber salads, stir fried green beans, steamed pork ribs, and sesame noodles. The honey riblets are good if you like very sweet ribs. There were a lot of servers coming constantly asking if you want to order more. There is a forced 18% gratuity for tip if you choose to have the AYCE. I liked how the portion sizes were small so you can try a variety of dishes. read more

I've been to a bunch of Peter Chang offshoots lately in wildly different locations, but this may be the last one for a while because it didn't really hit for me. The location here is near the metro, but seems out of place in a building without other restaurants kind of hidden below the street level. They seemed to acknowledge everyone other than me who was there for takeout, but I finally got mine. I tried a fried rice and was irritated that there was a no egg option but not a no broccoli option (not a Chinese vegetable mind you), which left me with little more than a colored rice to pick through. The tofu with hot peppers hit a nice heat but not the best rendition of this dish I've had in terms of flavor complexity. The best thing I got was a dan dan noodle dish with some vicious sauce and little tofu bites. Overall though, scant portions for the money, and not quite the experience I was hoping for. read more

10 of us celebrated a friends birthday at Peter Changs, we were all able to get into one of the large round tables, we were close together but hey we're friends. We all got the all you can eat lunch on a Sunday and the food and service did not disappoint. We just have tried over half the menu and there wasn't anything bad, though we did have someone eat some pig ear and chicken feet as he was hazed into doing so. Can't say enough about the staff, the food came out quickly, our waters were all topped off repeatedly and they were quick to check on us. There plenty of parking at the garage next door (free on Sunday) and the restaurant was clean, well staffed and had just the right ambiance for us to enjoy our meal. read more

I did a take-out recently. I used to love the Peter Chang in Rockville but it closed down. This is the first time I tried the Q. I used to get the fish in chilli oil at the old place and they used to add numbing in it but this time it seems they changed the recipe a little bit without the numbing. This place is amazing. We've driven by a few times but never went in. This weekend my wife wanted Chinese food so we decided to check it out. It's kid friendly, great food and timely service. Stopped in for my friend's birthday lunch and the portions were perfect. It's important that everybody at the table decides to do the all you can eat which from a restaurant owner perspective I can understand that standpoint. All of the food that came out was really tasty and there were a lot of options, including plenty of things with veggies in it for a veggie lover like me! lots of different things to choose from take a look at the menu before you get there. The service was fantastic and there were about nine of us at the table. The server did a great job explaining things to us and tried her best to help one of our friends not over eat. I don't know why this restaurant doesn't have a higher rating on Yelp but I thought this was the best dim sum I've had in a long time and not just in the DMV. I went on a Saturday when they opened for AYCE dim sum at 11am and we were seated immediately. The ambiance was nice and service was very quick, unlike a lot of other AYCE locations with a time limit. For the food itself, we ordered a ton of items - my favorite of which were their har gow and the pineapple buns. A lot of dim sum places skimp on the amount of shrimp actually inside the skin but these had very large portions of shrimp and the texture of the exterior was perfect. The pineapple buns were filled nicely and were delicious. They did most of their items pretty well, although I thought the weakest was the guo bao, which was too much bun compared to the amount of meat. While not bad, I was also expecting more of the puff pancake, which is one of their most popular items also offered at dinner. Overall I was pretty impressed by their AYCE dim sum which wasn't even super expensive compared to other food prices in the area. Food, service and atmosphere were all good. Portions are laughably small, especially the bok choy was a very small portion for $22. Not a huge problem if you are 2-3 people and are not very hungry; but if you are a large group and/or very hungry, you would be annoyed lol. I would come back from the xiaolongbao though. read more

Highly recommend their dim sum (weekends from 11am-3pm) which is one of the best I've had in the DMV area. In addition to SiChuan, they have delicious WuHan cuisine too. This is where the Chinese community and locals go. They have a big, modern interior with lots of tables, booths, and high ceilings. My favorites dim sum dishes that I tried were the Creamy Egg Yolk Baked Bun, Mi Jiu Tang (mochi ball soup), and Stir-Fried Rice Noodles with Beef. However I found all of their dishes to be tasty. If you're looking to try some WuHan classics, try the Dou Pi and Zha Jiang Mian. I enjoyed the dim sum at Q by Peter Chang better than the mass produced dim sum cart restaurants in Northern Virginia. Within the DMV, the best Chinese food is in Maryland (Rockville/Bethesda). The servers were good and they checked on us many times to ask if we would like to put in any additional orders since we got their all you can eat special. We stopped by Q this past Saturday evening to celebrate our friend's birthday since we heard the duck here was the best in the DMV. The service was quick and attentive -- our server made sure we always had enough water. Food came out pretty quickly, too. SCALLION BUBBLE PANCAKE (葱油泡饼) - 6 The pancake was a huge bubble that had to be popped in order to be eaten. It was pretty thin with a chewier texture. The flavor reminded me of the colorful shrimp chips that you sometimes on Chinese dishes. Not a lot of scallions, though. Just a lot of pan-fried batter. The curry sauce on the side was pretty watery. I could have gone without it. CHANG'S PEKING DUCK WHOLE (北京烤鸭 - 全只) - 80 This is definitely what they're known for here. If you're down to splurge on a tasty duck, I'd recommend. A whole duck is a lot smaller than I thought, but the portion was plenty for the four of us. Each order comes with the duck, two sauces (hoisin sauce and this really watery beet sauce?), toppings like cucumbers and scallion whites and a steamer basket filled with crepe skin. The crepe skin was thin and chewy, and the duck wraps were delightful. The duck skin was thin and flavorful, almost like eating chips. The duck meat was perfectly cooked. I can see why this is one of the best ducks in the area. SNOW PEA TIPS W/ MINCED GARLIC (蒜蓉豆苗) - 26 There wasn't a big portion of snow peas, but it was well cooked and seasoned with lots of garlic. The texture of the snow peas were perfectly crunchy. I would definitely recommend this, but unsure if it's worth it for the price point. BEEF STIR FRIED WIDE NOODLE (牛炒河粉) - 19 Out of everything we ordered, this was probably the most disappointing. I feel like I can get stir fried wide noodles at basically any Chinese restaurant, and there was nothing special about the one here. I thought the flavor was pretty bland. There was a good amount of beef in each portion, but the overall portion size was small for the price. I wouldn't recommend this here. Overall, the food was quite good but expensive. Q started its AYCE dim sums on the weekend. It's $28 for adults and half price for kids aged 5-12. Kids under five eat for free! The dim sum menu had 35 items. Our party of six adults and four toddlers must have ate at least twenty different dim sum dishes. We thought the taste was, in general, pretty good. The price was amazing for what's given. Some dishes were better obviously. Here were some of our favorite dishes: #27 stir fried wide noodles with beef. The dish can easily be ruined with too much oil. But Q delivered with a manageable amount of oil. #1 soup pork dumplings. We all thought this was really good. The soup inside the bun mixed really well with the filling. #21 roast duck sandwich was special. It was a pineapple inspired bun with a slice of roasted duck inside. Every bite was a mix of the sweet and the savory. #13 triple layered doupi (bean curd skin). It's hard to describe this dish. It was just really good! Basically, there were rice and smoked meat beneath the bean curd skin. #35 pumpkin fritters. This was essentially pumpkin fries! It was great! The service was super slow. I signed up for this dumpling making class with a friend and was extremely excited to meet Peter Chang. Is there anything better than learning how to make dumplings from one of the experts? Yes, it would be actually making dumplings with one of the experts. I and other's were a little upset to find out he did not show. Seeing that's the only reason why a lot of us signed up for the class because since it was stated he himself was going to be there. I even double checked the event details. First let down. We arrived early prior to the class and enjoyed some eats. This was the best part! I tried the flounder fish sour cabbage soup and is more on my must have list! I ended up visiting two other locations within that week and ordered it again because it was that good! Another honorable mention is the beef wide noodle. My friend ordered it and don't know if it was because it was someone else's food it was amazingly good or it was just great! I tried to figure that out but the other locations Columbia & Baltimore do not have it on their menu and none suggested making it fit me either. Go figure. . . Lol You know those dishes you order whenever you're close to that location, yup another one. The class wasn't arranged very well. The food we were making was left out and uncovered. People were asked to wash their hands before they were trash to cook so they became dirty again. It ended up being family style but all of the dumplings were come together so unless you designed/made/shaped/formed yours a specific way, you couldn't tell which you made. Went here with friends before a show at nearby Round House theater. Had seen mixed reviews but decided to try for convenience. It's a nice atmosphere and our waiter came quickly and often before we ordered. My husband got the Mapa tofu and my friend ordered the eggplant. Her husband got the shrimp fried rice and I got shrimp with asparagus and snow peas. The eggplant was the best and on the sweet side. The tofu was fairly bland and the tofu itself was soggy...it should be pan fried or sautéed before adding the sauce. Both the dishes had too much oil. My shrimp dish was very bland. I added some of the sauce from the vegetarian dishes to make it more palatable. We had to get another waiter's attention to get the bill, and then our waiter's attention to get to go containers. I was able to try this place for the first time with friends and overall enjoyed the experience. Since it's the weekend we did the all you can eat dim sum which had a decent variety of options. The portion sizes are similar to the tapas served at other Peter Chang establishments. I particularly enjoyed the Wuhan sesame noodle, stir fried green beans, Sichuan chili wontons, and Chinese sausage with snow peas. The scallion bubble pancake was also quite fun to try. I had a bowl of the West Lake Asparagus Soup which was served quickly and just at the right temperature. Dragon eggplant with spicy garlic sauce Chang's Mini Lions Head (meatballs) - tender and full of flavor Rice Crust with Tomato Beef Tenderloin - very original dish! I love the crispy rice paired with the tomato beef and gravy! Whole Branzino (fish) - one of my favorites! They have four different sauces that you can opt for -- soy, original/ spicy, pickled peppers/ sweet-and-sour/ soy chili. I've had both the sweet and sour as well as the soy original, and my favorite was the soy original! The service was very cordial and courteous. The dining area has a sophisticated ambience with a dragon overhead, very cool to look at. There is the more open side of the dining room, and then a more cozy/secluded side of the restaurant. Both have booths, but I prefer the more secluded side. They also have a private dining room, if you want to have a party there. Parking is a short walk away. I usually park on the Montgomery Lane side, just before you reach Pearl Street. Or you can enter the garage on Waverly Street. Either way, it's a short walk, so just keep that in mind. NOT ALLERGY FRIENDLY! Online ordering includes a checklist for allergies including mushrooms. Ordered a dish that typically doesn't have mushrooms in most restaurants but put in mushroom allergy just in case. My carryout garlic spicy eggplant is full of woodears, fortunately I had only 1 bite before I saw how many were in there. I called and asked how this happened as its clearly on the receipt in English and Chinese. I was told the chef doesn't consider Woodear mushrooms to be mushrooms (my immune system would beg to differ) and was offered an apology and to remake it (the reason for 2 stars) but its unsafe to drive with allergy meds and frankly I'll be ill the rest of the night. We expected an upscale version of PF Chang's. What we got was disappointing food at inflated prices. My wife and I shared their Honey Riblets, Lettice Wraps, and 1/2 of their Beijing (Peking) Duck. The riblets were fatty, sickeningly sweet, and too hot from having been just heated in a microwave. The wraps, usually a favorite of mine, were greasy and with only a hint of their expected flavor. The duck was flavorless and seemed like it had been cooked a long time before. Also annoying was the presentation. I love the curry dipping sauce and we had to ask for more. They came back with a slightly larger container of the sauce than the initial offering! For our entrees we got the seafood curry in clay pot and the wagyu beef with asparagus. The seafood dish was also available at Mama Chang's in Virginia. Not all items are the same at each location which is why I like visiting the different ones. the wagyu beef was thinly sliced and very soft and tender. It was a excellent piece of meat. Few random notes: The restaurant has spacious seating. The air conditioning was on full blast. I really needed a sweater or jacket to keep from shivering. Attentive service. The hot and sour soup was the best of the three, but I'd rate it no more than a C+. The brown rice was a very small portion, especially given that I ordered two entries. I don't believe they include free rice with the order, but they don't say that, they only give the price of white and brown rice, so that's my assumption.
