Back in 2020, the CEO of Kroger was caught off mic saying that the pandemic could be a real opportunity for the company (referring to raising prices more than they needed to.) How do we know this did this? Kroeger went on to have windfall profits that year. They're at it again with the increase in oil prices. Looking at some of these price increases, which are so large, you just know you are being gouged. Most of the staff is helpful, but there's two cashiers who -- perhapos because they are so overworked -- are rude, short, and impatient, they really ought not to be serving customers. I like this QFC, it's got a large grocery selection and stuff is usually pretty fresh, clean and organized. Prices are better than other nearby stores, especially w app and coupons. I can pretty much get whatever I need at this store. Buy lately, this store likes to close early... like 20 min early. I get it that it's late when they are supposed to close at 1am.. but that's their posted closing time. What else are we supposed to go by?! So when they close and lock doors before 1245, it is frustrating for someone that rushed to make it before closing only to get turned away when you should still have 15-20 mins to get in and out. It has been quite convenient to have this QFC as the closest grocery store from home. What I like most about it is that price is mostly reasonable and there is sales going on for some staple items always. Produce quality is pretty good and I've never had anything go bad in too short period of time. They also have a small international food section where I sometimes buy Asian snacks and ramen - I usually do my shopping for Asian groceries elsewhere, but when I'm in a hitch or randomly craving Asian food, I have an emergency stop at QFC. I also buy Japanese condiments like mirin and cooking sake from their alcohol section, which is a big win too! I saw another review about the deli section closing early and I did notice that - I asked what the operating hour is to the lady working there one day, and she told me on a good day it's open until 4 pm but they are generally understaffed. I haven't visited the deli section in months so it may be different now, but I hope the issue has been resolved. I always go through the self cashier but QFC staff are polite and helpful whenever I have issue with the machine. Some sale items wouldn't show up discounted, so you should watch out for that. When I ask the staff if they could correct the price, they are more than willing to fix it. Another pro is that the wifi game is strong - it's interesting to me because I feel like wifis weren't a thing in grocery stores in New York. Without the wifi you can't get any cell service, but once you join the wifi network, it connects immediately every time you enter the store. read more

This is my local QFC and I like it. Very convenient to get to it has some things that I really like. To start I'm always looking for a good deal, so the near expired produce rack is always my first stop. They may have bananas, avocados, potatoes etc. that are not fresh off that palette anymore, but good enough for me and at half the price, while preventing food waste. Count me in. My next stop is the actual manager's special rack which has all kinds of stuff in it just because the packaging might be damaged it's a fraction of the cost. I've scored drink packs, surface cleaner, an ice scraper and even some automotive oil all for half off or more. Yup. What can I say, I like to save money. The supermarket itself is good. Well stocked but the aisles like all the rest seem kinda tight. The staff I've interacted with have been very nice and I can generally find what I need here. This review is for the Instacart delivery service that QFC uses. I think the QFC is great (staff, food quality and availability), but Instacart has got a great scam going. You order your food for delivery, they charge you a number of fees to complete the order, their delivery person does not deliver all the items ordered, and rather than send him out again, Instacart makes you submit another order and then CHARGE YOU FOR THE FEES AGAIN. You, as a customer, did everything correctly. Instacart's delivery person does not, but YOU get penalized. For my particular order, they charged me an additional $11.99. It's a great way to earn money, I guess. But if I was QFC, I'd rethink this customer service opportunity. Guilt by association is a powerful tool. read more

Without this QFC, west Ballard would be far less walkable, and basically any grocery run would require a drive to the Ballard Blocks or 15th. The staff is always friendly and hard-working, and I appreciate all they do to keep Ballard going. read more

This store in Ballard is mainly just convenient, as such its obvious that they increase the prices by about 25% compared to close by stores like Fred Meyer or Safeway. There is always homeless people trying to shake you down for money the moment you enter or leave the store , its rather hostile at times but they are never asked to leave and in fact they seem to just tolerate them rather than deal with it so they closed multiple exits off permanently. The irony in this comment is they send security trailing after you at random no matter how you're dressed, you can hear them call them over the loud speaker and its never for the obvious people sulking around, I've watched people just walk out with 12 packs completely unabated. The least appealing aspect of this place is the full lack of staff just in general around the store, you will see maybe 1 cashier and an 80 year old bagging, the rest of your options is usually 4 out of 6 self checkouts that have a line of people 12+ long on average and one stressed out standing cashier assistant being pulled into multiple issues around the store, they seem to do the most work and have what appears to be the least amount of support. The only people you can rely on are in the deli area and seafood area they are always there. This store also recently removed appropriate checkout machines and reduced the bagging area by 50% furthering the burden on the customer to just encourage you to not buy anything more than a handful of items and make you play Tetris just to buy simple things, If you want something typical like toilet paper that better be the only thing you're getting as that's the only thing that will fit on the checkout shelf you're provided except maybe a few cans of soup, seems like a poor strategy for a store trying to sell you as many things as possible for profit. This place is as backwards as you can get for a store, its goal seems to be providing you with as little convenience as possible and reducing sales as much as they can. read more

Came in. First greeted with having to put a quarter into a cart to shop! Who Carrie's quarters on them anymore. You have to hope you can find someone at customer service to get one and that's only if you have cash which many don't carry due to Covid. After waiting 7-10 min finally found someone. By then there were 6 people in line all try to get a cart or change. What a bonehead solution. WTF. Then not one single cashier working. Had to take 30 items to self checkout. Management I really hope these ideas were thought to increase customer experience?? Never coming back here as your competitors seem to have it figured out what customers want. read more

Don't shop here at night. The homeless/crackhead shoplifting problem is out of control. It happens so often that the poor cashiers and security guard don't even bother to intervene. It's too ghetto and dangerous here after dark. Just avoid if you can. As for the good points, they have a good seafood selection, great cheese selection (though u can find the same cheese at Trader Joe's for half the price), a big selection of wine and beer, and decent sushi. First time in this QFC and I was pleased to find how spacious, clean and modern it is compared to my go-to QFC. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the supply abundant. Well, I guess I lied when I said I wouldn't visit any other QFCs besides the one in U Village. But you'll forgive me right? It was new, shiny, only three blocks away, and had some amazing deals because of the grand reopening! How could I pass up deals like $0.99/dozen large AA eggs, $1.49/4pk muffins, and $0.69/12oz frozen veggies? Prices which are supposed to be good for another two or three weeks as of this writing. What's more is that the store is nice, bright and clean, the staff are friendly, and the underground parking lot is convenient: in fact, the stairs and elevators take you straight into the store itself. Though one thing I found a bit unusual was that they had four or five employees working an almost empty lot when I went in Thursday night, only to have them all disappear when I came back out half an hour later. Like others have said, they do not offer public restrooms, so remember to use the restroom before you come here. [-1] They really need to do a better job of removing expired goods. It's a really big store compared to most grocery stores in the area, and they have a good variety of brands. This QFC is really bad. Stay away. I was there at 5 pm. Only 2 check stands and. 2 self checkouts open. The lines have 15 plus customer lined all the way down the isles making it difficult to shop in those isles. I chose to not do my regular shopping because of the hassle of lack of staff at checkout lines. I decided to grab a container of sushi from the deli as I was in a hurry in hopes I could pay at the deli....that register was down as well. I decided to leave without groceries and sushi. Tough to give it 3 stars. I go here often, like 3-4 times a week often. Decent wine selection, decent meats, good beer selection. I do not recommend buying the delis pre-made food. Poorly made. I also agree with another recent post about the bathrooms, they state closed but don't tell you there is another option. I will have to verify this next time I go. The produce is also hit or miss. Tomatoes can go bad within 3 days, green onions have wilted in 2 days. Peppers are typically wrinkled at the store. And if management is reading this, bring back cotton candy grapes please! A little light on the produce, but all the basics are there including a decent variety of apples and seasonal berries. This grocery store is expensive and I'm not entirely sure why. Is it because this chain of grocery stores is just more expensive in general? Is food in general just more expensive in Washington? In Seattle? Is it more expensive just because of the neighborhood? Is it some combination of all of the above? I didn't go to any other grocery stores during my time in Seattle, so I couldn't test most of my hypotheses, but I was consistently shocked by how much more expensive regular items were here than in my local grocery stores in Texas. Claussen pickles? Two dollars more here than in Texas. Prosciutto wrapped mozzarella? Three dollars more expensive here than in Texas. Deli items? Two-three dollars more expensive per item. Deodorant? Three dollars more expensive. Some items were the same price, like Luna bars or this one chia seed drink I like from Mamma Chia, but everything else had a mark-up. Some of this stuff was at a Whole Foods level of price mark-up, except this isn't Whole Foods. This is just a chain grocery store. We went here because it was only a three minute walk from our friend's apartment complex and because we needed breakfast foods and snacks for hiking, but I would have preferred somewhere cheaper. I know that most people shop here because it's convenient, but I am so glad I got to return home to my beloved H-E-B and their low prices. The one cool thing was that they sell liquor in the grocery store. Yes, dear fellow Texans, in other states they are not backwards and you can buy liquor in a grocery store. It's ginormous! This is a big QFC. I've recently started swinging by here as I'm taking my workout buddy back to his place in Ballard. The facilities are clean, well lit and well stocked (even at the time of night we shop). The other night we were looking around in the deli section and even though they were closed the guy behind the counter, who was cleaning up and getting ready to leave, still hooked up us with some goodies from behind the counter. He could have said no and we would have been understanding but instead he supplied us with the delicious food we desired. A plus to you, man! Bottom line is this is a grocery store. It's a nice grocery store but it isn't going to do anything amazing like teach you how to make an origami triceratops or rebuild an engine. I'm a fan. read more

I would give this six stars if I could. Why? This is a regular grocery food chain owned by a large company... and they did an amazing job! They have a gluten free dry goods section (only a few feet wide, but STILL). Seeing gluten free options presented in a mainstream place feels great. I can now walk a couple blocks and find gluten free pasta and flours to take home and cook! Also, great selection of vases for sale by the flower area. Very unique and of great value. I was so excited to see the QFC open just a few blocks down, literally right when we moved into the neighborhood. I've always found QFC to have a higher quality and selection than Safeway. I know that people say it's way more expensive, but I really think it depends on what you're buying. I have found that when I need just a few simple things, QFC seems ridiculous, like I can't leave without dropping $20. Strange... (brew)... They do have great seafood and meat, and always, always something on a good sale. Some notables that I've picked up here: $5 / lb for NY steak. $5 / lb for crab legs. Pretty great. The produce always looks amazing, but is way expensive, like, way expensive. I think avocados last time I went were $3 each. I head to Top Banana for the produce. It's not as pretty as QFC's, but a fraction of the price ($.69 for the avocado). Pretty great customer service, too. Everyone is pretty friendly and tries to be helpful. Good stuff. A special shout out to Aaron, who is on rad (prehistoric) checker. Check out the sales, but for cheaper mainstays, try Fred Meyer just down the road a mile or so. read more

I had to go see it, the new, recently (re)opened QFC. Though I just finished writing my loving review of Ballard Market. Am I fickle?? Nah! Having established that : It was exciting driving into the parking garage under the building, and even more exciting seeing the mural on the wall and then - drumroll, please! - seeing the mural artist himself, at work before my eyes! Hey, I get off on art. Go look for yourself! And the store itself is a work of art: colorful, nicely lit (I didn't THINK about the lighting, unlike when I'm in nearly ANY Fred Meyers, where the dreadful warehouse lighting annoys me), nicely arranged. Prices just after the Grand Opening I'm sure are better than they will be in the coming months, but still... The "scene" down in the parking garage was exciting. Lots of energetic employees, directing traffic in the huge under-the-building lot, while, though there were many cars and many folk, the quiet down there was very unexpected! Slightly low, and highly insulated ceilings keep the parking area from having that awful, echoing and empty, somehow futile and futuristic feel of many underground parking zones. What, you don't feel that way?? Update: On revisiting my beloved Ballard Market, I couldn't help but notice that their bulk section is much more - well, more everything! - than QFC's. This gorgeous, huge new QFC doesn't carry bulk organic brown rice...... Weird ommision, eh? And only one kind of quinoa, which is nearly $1 more per lb. than at nearby Ballard Market. So enjoy the Grand Opening Specials - and then go back to Ballard Market, regularly. Balance - balance is good! read more

I live above this QFC so I go there probably 5-6 times a week. It's pretty standard, clean, well lit, good selection and all that. The reason it gets 5 stars from me is what happened to me one time in December. I had gone to a holiday party for work at a restaurant nearby. Everyone from my office proceeded to get totally hammered at dinner, myself included. Hey it's been a stressful year, don't judge us. We finished up the night at a bar, which is where my memory of the night's events get pretty hazy. What I have been able to piece together from my brown out state is that I left my coat (with apt keys in the pocket) in the bar so I could not get into my apt building. I must have fallen on my phone, possibly while running because it was wiped of all my numbers when I finally found my apt. Also I had a broken toe (which I found out about the next day when I couldn't walk without limping). Anyway, since I couldn't get in to my apt and had no phone contacts, I decided to wander into my friendly neighborhood QFC (which is open 24 hours) and plop down in one of the comfy chairs by the fireplace. Yes, this is the area where the bums usually hang. I positioned my chair directly in front of the fireplace, soaking up all of that sweet QFC heat. I woke up 8 hours later, with people working on laptops sipping Starbucks all around me. I then wobbled home on my broken toe and had the maintenance man let me in so I could shower before going to work to see if I had gotten fired or something. I hadn't, yay! Props to you, QFC, for recognizing that I was a loyal customer who was clearly in a rough state. I appreciate you not waking me up to kick me out. Also, those chairs are very comfortable, I might sleep in one again someday just for fun. My one gripe about this place is that they don't have blankets to use when you want to sleep there. I had to use a newspaper to cover myself, which was kind of embarrassing. read more

Not seeing what my neighbors are... I don't know if I'm jaded from having lived near the University Village QFC before living in Ballard, but I think this might be the worst QFC in the city. They have minimal selection all-around (which likely has to do with how small it is), the staff are all either unhelpful or busy scowling/gossiping, and their perishable food items are stocked in such a way that everything is 'Manager Special - Expiring" on a two week swing. Don't even get me started on their lackluster deli and meat section. I'll keep going here because the alternatives are Safeway (even worse), Fred Meyer on Leary (too far) and Ballard Market (too expensive)... but, meh. read more

Finally, a decent grocery store in Ballard! I used to go between three grocery stores just to get everything I needed (and was still never able to come home with lamb burgers) and now I only have to shop at one, lamb burgers included. Standout sections are definitely the produce, meat and fish departments; and the staff is very friendly and helpful. I completely agree with Cici G's statement below. They're so friendly at times it's concerning... there may be something in the break room water. Only cons: 1) I think Ballard Market has a better wine department over all. They offer better discounts on higher cost wines and a better bulk wine discount than QFC. (So I have to make a separate trip to a second grocery store for my weekly case of wine.) 2) I love the deals in the floral department but the main woman that works at this location is surly and abrasive.
