Loved the location right across Hagley Park, convenient to many places, and they provide free parking. Even though this hotel is a bit pricier than other places I searched, it is well worth it. Many places aren't as nice, not conveniently located, and overnight parking will cost you $$, which you factor into the cost, it's actually the same price. Once we stepped into the lobby, you can feel a certain level of comfortness, elegance, and sophistication. This hotel is not modern, but doesn't feel outdated. There's a distinctive quality. We were warmly greeted by the concierge/front desk person. He was very friendly, helpful, informative, hospitable, and made us feel very welcomed. Our room was a decent size with a lot of natural light coming in. With the park across, you have excellent privacy. One of the perks was the heated bathroom floors! They also FREE guest laundry. That was another reason why I chose this hotel because it was our last stop, and we could do laundry before heading home. One of the housekeepers was really nice and kind. The staff overall were friendly. It's the small details and kind gestures that made our stay memorable, even if it was just for one night. Providing complimentary coffee or tea when we arrived, the extra care and effort when we needed something, and giving us a free teddy (George) bear too! I'll definitely come back to stay at The George on my next visit to Christchurch!

We stayed in an apartment across the street from the main Manor. Our unit was 3 stories. There was a master bedroom with en suite bathroom on the first floor. The second floor featured a cozy sitting area, kitchenette, and washer/dryer. (Unfortunately, the washer and dryer were surprisingly difficult to use and slower than expected.) The third floor contained two additional bedrooms (one with a queen bed, and one with two twin beds) and a shared bathroom. The set up is great for two or more couples (or families) traveling together. The coffee and tea provided was plentiful, and the light breakfast provided (a variety of cereals, milk, bread, and spreads) was very convenient and helpful. The location is convenient - a 15 minute drive to the airport and close to the Merivale Mall. The hosts were warm and welcoming, and we really appreciated the fact that Gwyneth took the time to bring us our milk and bread personally, and showed us around the apartment. These are great accommodations at a reasonable price!
