Tony and I spent the night at Quality Inn in Mount Airy, NC. I chose it based on ratings on its website, Plus I needed to stay at Choice Hotel chain to get my Free $50 Gift Card. I am Gold Status so I'm allowed late and early Check In and Check Out. The lady at the desk on Check in was nice but she didn't acknowledge my status. We opted for King Smoking Room because Tony Smokes. Normally he goes outside, but this hotel allows it in certain rooms. We were given room #147 in 2nd Building. When I opened door, the smell knocked me down from old smoke...They need Febreeze immediately! They can use it on the carpet, couch, bedding everywhere to dissipate that bad odor! Also carpet fresh goes a long ways too!! Also some room air fresheners would help. Half my lights didn't work, but the ones I needed did, also remote didn't work and was nasty sticky. I called front desk, she was a lone so I walked it up to her. She changed it out with another remote. The beds were clean and comfortable. Bathroom was small but clean and adequate, great water pressure and plenty of hot water. Price was higher than I normally would like to pay, but for the area and high tourist body count the rates acceptable and reasonable. No bugs found, no mold found, I would stay again if in the area. read more

We checked in for a two night stay in December 2025. The front desk suggested the first floor room because the heat was already on. ‍ Upon entering the room there was a terrible smell. We found food in the refrigerator and a pair of dirty black (and crusty, according to my lady ) socks on the floor. When I opened the bathroom floor and turned on the light, a very nice looking little cockroach scurried across the floor. There was what looked like a mashed fly on the toilet seat. Now I want to be clear; I did not make this reservation. My lady was looking for a "good deal" for a room. I informed her that if an establishment uses adjectives such as quality or comfort, they are probably not quality or comfortable. Well, fortunately we were able to work with Expedia to get a refund and moved on over to the very nice Hampton Inn. The lesson here is real quality cost 3.5 times what a Quality Inn costs. read more

My wife, kids and I recently stayed and everyone went above and beyond for us and the kids. Crystal Boehmer made sure we had everything we needed and more for the room and it was always super clean. In my opinion, some of the "less than flattering reviews" mistakenly treat the Quality Inn Mount Airy Mayberry as a "high-priced/high-class" hotel. That it is not. However, for the price, this option is MORE than adequate. In fact, considering the service and cleanliness of the facility, it exceeded my expectations. The room did not smell, as some visitors insist. I do not deny others may have experienced issues, but I did not. The room was large and roomy. The bed was exceedingly comfortable and the amenities sufficient. While not a "Lazy-Boy" recliner, the loveseat was adequate as well. Again, this was not supposed to be the Taj Majal. The facility was clean, both inside and out. While the exterior could use a bit of sprucing up, the rooms themselves were clean and relatively modernized. The website advertised a hot breakfast, and that's exactly what we got. The breakfast area is very roomy and the food choices more than adequate. As for the staff; they were beyond just cordial. Dawn and Amanda were extremely polite and very helpful. Check-in was a breeze. The accommodations were comfortable and clean, especially for the price. A rating of no less than above average for the Quality Inn Mount Airy Mayberry has simply set unrealistic expectations for this selection. Left happy, well rested, and well fed. We had Crystal (housekeeper) check up on us constantly and was very helpful. She made sure we had fresh towels every day of our stay and this just made us very happy. Our room was clean and water was warm. We couldn't have picked a better hotel to stay at after a 6-hour flight from California. Book here!!!! Pool was also clean sparkling clear blue read more

I just stayed here last night, there was burn holes in the pillow cases, which wasn't too big of an issue since there were multiple pillows...i continued to check the towels and wash cloths and some were dirty. the sheets were clean at the time i looked at them but as i'm waking up at 4am there were bugs in the bed. i don't recommend anyone to stay here. read more

This is a terrible place. The workers at the front desk were uninterested at best. Our room had a dead cockroach on the counter by the sink. Their was trash all around the building. The worst thing, by far, was the air conditioner. It was so loud it kept us awake. It did blow cold air but our sheets and blankets were too small for the bed so our backs were cold all night. read more

BEDBUGS! We stayed one night and got bitten...both of us! I'm allergic to them, so I know! That and found a few when we got home. Had to hire an exterminator! Bedbugs are disgusting! My confirmation number was 16334195 and we stayed April 21 to 22nd. We stayed in I believe room 101...handicapped on first floor in rear of building. Room appeared clean but evidently wasn't. One star is being too generous. I have been a Choice club member for several years and by far this is the worst experience ever. We stayed two nights and spent $249, don't make the same mistake we made. The first room they gave smell horrible from cigarette smoke and we had to ask for another room. The second room needed some serious updates. The bathroom--had two TP holders, the bottom one had been ripped off the wall and jagged metal pieces extended from the wall. The tub had pubic hairs, so disgusting. The door to the bathroom had been notched out so it could have enough room to open and close. In all my years staying in hotels and never seen a door notched out to close and open. The lamp stand between the two beds was in terrible shape. One lamp shade was cracked and splitting and the second lamp you could almost pull off the base. They advertised a hot breakfast and that wasn't available. The dining area was blocked off and if you wanted to eat you had to take it to your gross room to eat. The hotel stay was totally disappointing, I highly recommend looking elsewhere and spend a few more dollars. read more

This is the most disgusting place I have ever seen. The rooms are dirty and smell of stale smoke. The grounds are in poor condition with unkept landscaping, weeds, debris and trash everywhere. The employees walk around smoking. The linens were torn and stained. The curtains were ripped. The carpet was disgusting. The lamps were broken. The light above the vanity was yellow smoke stained and full of large insects. The air conditioner filters and vents had an inch of dust on them. There was dust and dead moths in the corner. I would have asked for a refund however we had this booked for months and were already checked in and the other motels in the area were booked. It was beyond dirty and old. read more

Two stories, exterior entrances, former Comfort Inn. Facility is well maintained, neat and clean. Room had hi def tv, sofa and coffee table, strong wifi signal, comfortable bed, microfridge. Our room had a weird smell and there was mold in the shower. The linens were clean at least but glad we only stayed for one night.

I stayed here one week ago & time hasn't made the memory of the night any better. I arrived around 5pm, check in was fine. My room was in the back building, on the back side of it (female, traveling alone). The entire parking area & surrounding buildings looked sketchy, and there was a guy working on his extremely loud carburetor right in front of my room. The curtains in the room looked like moths had eaten them, as there were small holes, & there were dead bugs inside the bathroom light cover. The bathroom floor looked very dirty. The absolute worst part though was motorcycles and other loud vehicles coming into the hotel at all hours of the night. I think the last one arrived around 1:30 AM. And then the car with the loud carburetor started up at 4 AM and he proceeded to let it idle outside my front door for 30 minutes before leaving. After he left, a variety of other vehicles started up and left so there was no sleep at all for me. After getting NO SLEEP, I drove to Cleveland, OH. If I could give less than 1 star, I would. Horrible hotel.... super dated. Bathroom and shower is something out of the 50's - definitely never renovated. Shower pressure was horrible. Towels ("clean" ones) smelled awful. Bed was not comfortable whatsoever. Chair in room looked very dirty. Nothing smelled clean at all. TV and remote (again) - super dated. Made this reservation online while driving the Blue Ridge Parkway. I'm a Choice Hotels member and the rate seemed reasonable and they take pets. When we arrived and I told the desk clerk I needed a pet friendly room she seemed annoyed and said I hadn't indicated I needed a pet friendly room. When I mentioned their website didn't have a place to indicate I was traveling with pets, she chastised me for not calling the property directly (also not suggested on the website). She did have a pet friendly room available and she handed me keys to room 146. I opened the room and despite the strong odor of smoke - in a room indicated as a non-smoking room - I unloaded the car. The bathroom had grime and when I pulled down the covers on the bed I was greeted by a bug. I loaded the car back up, drove to the front desk and told the desk clerk we weren't staying, described the condition of the room and asked for a refund. I showed her a photo of the bug in the bed and her only comment was to ask what kind of bug it was. I told her I didn't know, but it was unacceptable. The only reason for one star is that the desk clerk agreed to cancel my reservation and issue a full refund....I'll see if that actually gets credited to my card in a week. read more

I just wanted to take a morning swim and all other hotels with pools here in Mayberry will open the gate so that I might get wet. No lifeguard, no reason to keep it locked at 830am. I stayed at this really dirty unwelcome hotel so I could take a morning swim. So for me this hotel is not good. Of course with its cleanliness, its no good for anyone. So we won't stay here again. Was a once a month visitor. Seems like a loss when all the y had to do was turn a key. read more

I had the best stay at the Quality Inn in My Airy. I had a nice fluffy bed, a clean bathroom, and a place to drink beers with my friends after a wedding in town. Wasn't expecting much and it surpassed my expectations for a motel in the middle of nowhere! :) read more

I am quite surprised by some of the reviews, as my experience has been largely positive. Check in was very easy and the front desk clerk was very kind and professional. The lobby was lovely. My room was around the back and all the rooms have exterior corridors (which frankly, I don't Iove). My room was very clean and was larger than I expected. The wifi signal was strong and the king size bed was very comfy (I especially loved all the pillows). I was not crazy about the road noise and the people yelling back and forth to each other in the parking lot at 10pm while I was trying to sleep but neither of those was the fault of the hotel. I would certainly stay here again (maybe just bring some earplugs next time as I am a light sleeper). read more

Horrible experience. We requested pet friendly room for which we were charged $25 extra which was fine. However, the room was disgusting!! The sofa had horrible brown stains on both sides. The carpet was nasty. The door was rusty. The smell was awful; we even went out and bought room spray, but didn't help. We discussed leaving around 1 am because of the smell, but toughed it out until 6 am. Worst place we have ever stayed. read more

So sorry, can not recommend this motel especially if you have pets! The front of the establishment looked really nice but when we checked in, we got a room in the back, and we cannot say anything nice about the room except we felt violated! The room was not clean, the first room we were given the refrigerator had a high shrill whistle (had to get in the car and drive around the place to get another key)! The second room's door lock was falling out of the door. When my husband walked our small dog, he had to be careful not to step in other dogs droppings. We have mostly been pleased with other Quality Inns we stayed at. My husband and I feel it worthwhile for the corporate office to look into this facility where people pay a premium for their beloved pets to stay.
