If you ever find yourself in Parsons, KS, do yourself a favor and stay any where else. Entering…read morethis hotel assaults your senses with an over-sweet odor that you can't put a name to, but it's not very pleasant. The Manager of this place is about as lazy as you can find and all she did was complain. She brought her niece in for a few days, apparently because her mother was ill. All we heard whenever we interacted with her was how long she had to work, how tired she was, and any other inconvenience to her person. At breakfast, she left her ten-year-old niece in charge while she went to the front desk and played on her I-Pad. The other woman who was there, was busy doing something else, but it wasn't clear to anyone there what. I'm not sure it was really legal to have a ten-year-old serving people breakfast, which by the way, was awful, but I doubt the manager felt it was her responsibility to figure that out. The appearance of the front desk was messy, disorganized, and the appearance of the manager and other desk person was totally unprofessional. They looked like they were going to the beach, not running a hotel. Why the young girl was allowed to participate in any of this is beyond me, but I can assure you I will not be staying here again. The manager and her assistant could really use some classes in professionalism and customer service. The only person who was really helpful was the housekeeping staff person, a delightful young woman with bright green hair, who was willing to bring us extra towels, soap, or anything else we needed. I have to say, it was absolutely one of the most disappointing stays at a Best Western I've encountered.

Came into town for a funeral and stayed here. We usually stay at the Quality Inn, but…read moreunfortunately it was completely booked this time. Arrived late after driving 10 hours and went to our room that smelled musty when we opened the door. We turned the AC on and hoped it would help with the smell. Next day we noticed black mold all over the ceiling of the room. Staff apologized and moved us to another room that had a smoke alarm chirping every minute due to a dead battery. Made me wonder why they would wait to change out the batteries on the smoke alarms until they are dead. A much better practice would be to change them out periodically before the batteries are completely dead. Anyways, asked for a discount on the first night since we slept in a room with black mold and the clerk told me they don't give discounts and I should have informed them sooner! What a joke! How dare you place the blame on me for something your hotel neglected! He said they were already having the issue remediated. I noticed dehumidifiers in the hallways, so it seems like humidity issues have been a problem here for awhile. I'll never stay here again.

Surprisingly good experience!…read more We reached Parsons, KS around 7:30pm on a Monday and decided to pull over and find a decent room on Priceline (they have an iPhone app now!). The reviews for this spot seemed pretty good on Priceline and pretty bad here on Yelp. I really needed a shower and a bed to sleep in, however, so I decided to just go ahead and book the room (~$80 after taxes and fees). We arrived about 15 minutes later (plenty of parking spots available!) and checked in. Cassi was friendly and told us they didn't have any normal rooms left, so they'd have to give us a free upgrade to their suite (#127). Sweet! The living room had a/c, a fold-out bed couch, a mini fridge, a window, and a flat-screen tv. The bedroom had a/c, a giant bed, a chair, a window, and a flat-screen tv. The bathroom had a huge jacuzzi tub and all the usual stuff. Everything seemed clean and the bed was comfortable. We only spent about 20 minutes in their tiny indoor pool, but I'm still glad they had one and that it was open until 10pm. It was a bit cold but felt good because it was a hot day. We had some dirty laundry and had never used a hotel/motel laundry machine before, so we decided to get some quarters and buy a $1 Tide laundry detergent powder box from the front desk. The laundry machine was $1 but they got a new front-loading machine the next day so it's now $1.50 per load. The dryer was $0.50 and we had to run it twice even though our load was pretty small (so dryer also ended up being $1). I woke up around 7:30am so we were able to make it to breakfast (ends at 9am). It was probably one of the better motel breakfast experiences I've had because they had juice, hard-boiled eggs, a lot of bananas, and yogurt. They also had things like waffles and cereal but we chose to eat the rolled oats and almond milk we brought with us. Check-out is at 11am and was really easy. We just handed them the key cards and got the printed receipt. Other amenities: Ice machine, Mrs. Pac-Man arcade game, vending machines, in-room safe (costs extra?). Noise: We could hear the rain and thunder outside! We could also sometimes hear people walking (upstairs?) but it wasn't too bad/loud. Small issues: The bathroom sink plug had detached from the control rod, but my favorite chemical engineer was able to temporarily fix it. The bathroom ceiling had some round water damage markings. Improvements: They're putting in new hallway carpets right now. They hadn't quite reached our room (long hallway) when we were there but they'll probably finish the first floor today.
