We stayed there 2 day. The room was good but my arm got eat up by something in room. Breakfast was HORRIBLE paste gravy for your cold biscuits. No waffle mix and when you asked them to get it. The guy in the cafeteria area got a severe attitude and slammed stuff around. They had a half cut open gallon of milk set, in a cooler area. Absolutely no fruit and the bread was very limited. There was nothing else in there. The coffee was also completely out. And we when breakfast around 8am. We also tried to use the so called heated pool, which was very cold. Absolutely not Heated false advertisement had multiple spiders in the bottom of the pool. The hot tub was very murky, and the jets did not work. No towel in pool area or anyone at front desk to get some.We tried to address the problems with the front desk. The first night, but there was no one at the front desk. Multiple attempts were made. Owner was a very rude man when we was addressing the problem to his worker he cussed my sister over us speaking up about the problems. Video added.. This is the worse hotel we have stayed in. We got here late traveling for a volleyball tournament. The room was ok. not the cleanest but we cleaned it up and dealt with it because it was late. They knew we had three guests on reservations. They gave us two rags and two towels. When asked for more he jumped all over my daughter. ok whatever. After we got back from the tournament (7:30pm) they had left all our dirty towels and rags in the room and threw two clean ones in the sink knocking all my stuff over. I asked th man at front the desk for one more rag and towel and he flat out said no. He wouldn't give us anymore. I explained we didn't even have enough for the guests in our room he didn't care. When my daughter went down to the pool an there was no pool towel she went and asked he told her no he would not give any pool towels out. I have never stayed in a hotel where you couldn't even have wash cloths and towels to shower!! A few extra complaints the hottub isn't a hottub it's a spa with no jets. Gross. There were a lot of pubic hairs in the bathroom. There were pubes on the shampoo bottle. Then there were pubes in the tub. Then there was pubes on the spigot. I'm talking big, black, noticeable pubes. It was so nasty. Breakfast ends at 9am, which I thought was ridiculous. That is way too early. The guy wasn't even friendly when I checked in. He didn't tell me anything about the hotel. He should have advertised the pubes, since they were such a prominent attraction. I discovered a jacuzzi. But it was dirty and lukewarm. The fridge was loud. It roared while you were trying to sleep. I asked the guy when I checked in was he going to put a hold on my card and he said no. Which that was a lie. They did. I went down in the morning to discuss the hold and no one was there. Literally. The housekeeper told me there wasn't anyone. There were four of us waiting for someone. They are horrible! Needed to book an extra night with a pet and they told us we had the move rooms. They gave us a room that wasn't clean! I complained and they said they would just give us a refund and no reservation. When I said I hope we can find a room the man at the front desk said "I hope you can find one too"! Management was very accommodating and a hot breakfast is served every morning from 6-9. We have stayed there now 3 times in a little over a year. Negative stars for BED BUGS and the worst customer service from the owner I have ever witnessed. I broke out in dozens of bed bug bites (red, yellowish center, sore/itchy) about an hour after waking up and checking out. Was unable to speak with the owner for almost 24 hours. When I finally got her in the phone she raised her voice, spoke over me, denied the bug problem (so clearly it won't be exterminated or bombed) and refused a refund then she HUNG UP ON ME, after saying that I was full of myself for asking for a refund. We booked a king room on hotels.com in January 2024 for the weekend of 9 Nov 2024. We checked in last Friday afternoon. The young man at the front desk was originally pleasant, until we went to our room and it was not a king room and it smelled bad. We returned to the front desk, waited about 20 minutes for him to finish a UHaul rental, and asked for him to honor our original reservation. He became belligerent and said he did not have to honor our reservation as presented in our email from hotels.com. He threatened to cancel our reservation outright. Given that it was a football weekend, we would not have had a place to stay. I asked him for a business card so I could have his name, at which point he decided to switch our room to a king room after all. This transaction took about 45 minutes which meant we were late to the basketball game we had tickets to. The second room was adequate, but it too was musty upon entry and the refrigerator was so loud you could hear it at the door. We have stayed at this hotel before many times and it was okay. The beds are not comfortable and the air conditioner is loud, but it is usually clean and the staff is usually pleasant. The breakfast is nothing to write home about, but the biscuits are ok. We cancelled our reservations for the last football game (3 rooms) and will not be returning to this hotel in the future. read more

I stayed here because the drive had drained me, and just needed to stay...will make a point to keep driving. I saw the building and thought this looks like a great hotel, it must be fairly new. The lobby looks like it has been updated very nicely. Front desk was nice, she knew her job. The awakening happened when I went to my room. Instantly in the hallway was an overwhelming spell of what could be Chinese food. It was obvious that updates are needed. The doors evidently were different colors...maybe? It looks old. My room appears to be OK...clean everything in its place. It's not the worst room but had that dorm room feeling. Sitting in my room, the feeling of being baited into thinking the hotel was nicer that it actually is came over me. I was never refunded for this. I eventually got in touch with a regional manager. They made such a huge deal of refunding me less than $100. It was the principle of the thing. They agreed it was wrong, a big mistake was made, but I guess I'm not high profile enough for them to care. On top of that, my card info was stolen that night and someone used my info to buy a couple hundred dollars worth of make up. Maybe the woman they gave my room to who was booked under my name and card. Who knows. Lesson learned though, we've not stayed at a Choice Hotel since this incident and they lost our business indefinitely. read more

This morning, however, we woke up to ants all over the dresser/TV stand, covering my water tumbler. It was disgusting. Everytime I checked it seemed like more had appeared. We told the woman at the front desk who told us that the exterminators had been there multiple times last week and that she would call them back again. She did not apologize. We did receive $20 off of our room. If it weren't for the ants, I would've given this place 5 stars honestly. I'll be honest, I'm a Hilton girl. BUT, Last minute travel i needed to find a place to stay for the next few nights. I was being cheap, I even had a coupon for like $20 off a night. I Figured as long as they don't have bedbugs, which I would check for, I'd be fine. (For the record I did not find any bed bugs.) However, I now have a really itchy rash on my complete body. Not sure what caused it, I didn't go in the pool. I took a shower before I went to bed and again the next morning. (Because I felt icky) Their ad says complementary breakfast. So I assumed breakfast. Breakfast to me is actually hot, eggs, toast, pancakes, etc. I had asked if I missed breakfast because I didn't see any food LOL. I saw oranges and apples which I can't eat, and yogurt, which I cannot eat either. I opted out for the only other option other than Froot Loops, oatmeal. After my three day trip, my loving husband insisted I spend the money and go to a Hilton for my last evening on the road. Finally I feel clean and can relax. I almost don't want to go to sleep because I got here so late and I am so comfortable. Still, I've set my alarm to get up early and have a really, real nice hot breakfast. Hilton definitely gets five stars! UPDATE: I just read a post about someone that stayed at this place, and they posted a picture of the bedbug! I am so upset right now. Not a bad hotel, but not the best either. The front desk staff was pleasant and helpful. The hotel is definitely older with minimal upgrades. The room itself was clean, but older. The shower is very small and the sink counter sits very low. The a/c heating unit is very loud and old. There was a church youth group that was extremely loud at very late hours of the night. Unfortunately when I called the front desk to complain, they said they'd come up, but they never did. At 9 am the next morning we received a call from the front desk asking if we were still in the room. Ummm.. yes. All in all, it was a decent place to sleep but would probably not return. read more

This was undoubtedly the most vile hotel I've ever been in. I was so exhausted after a long drive coming from a funeral that I didn't have the energy to find another hotel and I had already carried all my stuff to the room. I had my own cleaning supplies and when I wiped down the room, every wipe I used was brown afterwards. I cleaned the tub then decided it was still to disgusting and didn't use it, there was feces on the toilet seat, the sheets had stains all over them, luckily I had my own flat sheet to put over top and had my own pillow and blanket. The towels were so worn they were almost torn and they smelled like smoke. There was also hair all over the bathroom. If this place wasn't conveniently located next to Radford it would be bulldozed. I cannot. I also woke up in the morning with a strange bug bite that still hasn't gone away so it definitely wasn't a mosquito. read more

I read all the other reviews and decided to see for myself if they held water. Here are my findings: The room doesn't smell or anything, and there are no bugs, so off to a good start. Nice flatscreen, air conditioner works well, bed is comfortable and bathroom is decently big. There is a bit of a musty smell in the hallway, but not the lobby. The staff is nice and helpful. Now, the negatives: the restaurant was closed at 6 when we went there for dinner. If you want breakfast, you'd better get in there before 9, because we went at 9:09 and were denied even so much as a leftover muffin and bowl of cereal: "We close at 9, get out!" (Okay, it was a little nicer than that, but I was starved and it wasn't a good start to the day.) The Wi-Fi was super slow, but at least it worked I guess. No worse than most shoddy hotel Wi-Fi at places I've stayed. Would I stay here again? Yeah, probably. It's a decent enough deal and there's nothing I really object to that much. Has room for improvement, for sure, but doesn't everything in this price range? A solid three stars. Could have been four with any of the listed problems fixed. read more

We were visiting Blacksburg but because of a football game, we had to stay in Radford and Best Western was the best option because it is close to freeway. We were greeted by a nice hotel employee, and offered free popcorn, which tasted really good at past 9pm. We checked in. Room was very clean. It took a while for me to figure out the remote and run the TV, it wasn't functioning properly. Other problem was that the heater was an old fashion wall unit; there was no sensor to stop it, it ran all night long, or I had to got up to stop it when it gets too hot. I also hated the pillows but they did not have any other type. I used gym room, equipment was broken but they worked somehow. They offered free breakfast, which I liked because there were many choices like scrambled eggs, oat meals, fruits, yogurts and many others. They have free WiFi in room, and also fridge. I don't require luxury when it comes to staying in a hotel, far from it actually. I do however expect the previously mentioned hotel to be a simple, functioning establishment. Best Western Radford does not fall into this category. Following a 5 hour drive on a school bus containing 40 high school students who smell of stale farts and body odor that could knock a horse unconscious, I enter my room 226 to catch up on some sleep, only to discover I was not alone. Lurking on the wall directly beside the door lies a centipede of sorts. This centipede however is none like any I've ever seen. It seemed to have been within half a mile of the Hiroshima nuclear bomb drops as there were a dozen long antennae protruding from it's hairy abdomen. After finally recovering from the horror that this creature spread through my mind and body, I crawled into my bed, placed my head on a pillow that contained feathers that molded into clumps and proceeded to flatten to the same level of the mattress. At some point that night, I eventually fell asleep and woke up at 7 am, ready for a steamy, hot shower. Again, disappointment showed its horrible face to me. The water in the shower refused to heat up over 45 degrees, this is not a exaggeration. I wound up assuming a stance resembling a downhill skier as to not get water on me anywhere I didn't have to. Luckily I spent very little time in this hotel and am very happy to now be home in my hot shower. read more

I frequent this hotel for two basic reasons: first, my in-laws live in Radford and second, because I am a Best Western rewards member and I get points when we stay here. Breakfast is good and free: scrambled eggs,toast, biscuits and gravy, various juices, and make-your-own waffles. My only complaint about breakfast is the lack of vegetarian (or even healthy) options. Not much selection in that area. In regards to the rooms, they are spacious and new (or at least recently renovated) which is nice. I always forget they have a pool, so we've never been in. Parking is ample, no restaurant on site and not within walking distance to any. Price is always great. Book EARLY if you are coming for a week that is popular with the college (family weekend, Highlander Festival, Alumni Weekend) because they sell out and the price shoots up. I was not pleased with my experience here, but I checked in so late at night that finding another option was close to impossible. The lady at the front desk was a bright spot. She was accommodating, friendly and kind. The first room I checked into seemed fine at first. Although I didn't want to use the washcloth because of the brown stains on it. Around 2 AM as I worked my feet under the covers at the foot of the bed, I felt something scratchy. It looked like it was some crunchy crumbs of something. Yuck! About ten minutes later I found what looks like a bed bug crawling on my pillow. The lady at the front desk was apologetic and moved us from room 211 to their own other available room 229 at 2 AM. The pillows were either pretty dirty or stained and had a variety of hairs on them. I am not unrealistic and do expect occasional hairs from housekeeping, but not a variety. Fortunately, 5 of the 8 pillows were ok. Neither of the 2 bedside lights worked either, (and they were plugged in). I honestly would not have stayed if I was traveling alone, but my husband was exhausted and didn't want to try to find a new hotel at 2 AM. I had already paid for 2 nights prior to checking in so we ended up staying a second night, too. Housekeeping did change the sheets for us for the second night and they were much cleaner. I appreciated that. Breakfast was ok. We showed up at 9:00 AM (breakfast ends at 10) and the breakfast attendant was just bringing out fresh eggs. That was nice to see. Although the hot food was in warming land, the burners were not lit below the pans so the food didn't stay warm. Once housekeeping cleaned our room for the second night, our experience was better. Like others we visit this area and hotel a few times per year as there aren't a lot of hotel options. This visit was subPar - they put us in the under renovation wing #127. Between the overwhelming paint smell, the dirty linens and half completed bathroom we moved rooms at 930pm. The second room was better but half done as well. Spoke to the manager upon check out when she overheard me say I have a list of things you need to know about. After some back and forth she agreed it wasn't rental worthy, still charged us but promised some extra points. We shall see if we return. She actually encouraged us to write a review. The renovation was due to complete May 1st but as you can see it's still in progress. I do hope they get this mess squared away soon or their renovation will be for not. read more

Lesson I have learned tonight- Looks are deceiving! This hotel was lovely on the outside and TRASHY on the inside. Let me begin....it all started when my family walked into our SMELLY room. Expecting a nice clean room was definitely NOT what we got. 2 water bottles HALF EMPTY and a bar of soap in the shower WITH HAIR all over was present in this so called "clean" room. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL!! ZERO out of ZERO...Arrived 5/27/21 at 9:30p; checked into room 120; first thing I saw was a water bug on the wall (ok, could happen). About 11:45p got into bed and felt as if things were landing on me...sitting still I saw small flies on the pillow next to me. I recorded several of them in the bed; went to the bathroom seeing two more in the sink (took photos). At front desk, night auditor didn't seem surprised saying "oh yea, I see one on your key card". Unable to issue a refund she advised I needed to talk with manager Melissa Bolling in the morning. I drove to the Sleep Inn in Dublin VA & stayed the night. 5/28/21 at 9a I called Melissa, she stated she went to the room and saw only two "knats" in the bathroom sink. I sent her the video and pictures; she advised she'd have to speak with the owner about a refund. 6/2/21 she called stating the owners would only refund 30% of my stay. I called corporate and they also called the Melissa directly; and was advised there was nothing more they were willing to do; corporate was kind enough to offer me 8,000 points for my inconvenience. Ok,for starters, this place was way over priced. BW aren't usually this expensive. Turns out, it was the weekend after VT n Radford colleges had their graduation ceremonies before so they almost doubled the prices. Although the staff was very nice, the cost was not . They must have run out of towels because what we got could in no way be called towels. Mine had holes and my foot got stuck in the thread. The bed was hard, n pillows, well, glad I brought my own. The area was great for dog walking, the beakfast good. The area was very nice and we found a great restaurant. This hotel is not worth the money or the risks involved in staying there. It is easily the worst experience I've had as a consumer in the hospitality industry, and I wish I could rate less than one star. My family and I were placed there a couple months ago after a house fire. The second floor, where our rooms were, was not air-conditioned, it was dark, and it smelled of mildew. The ice machine was out-of-order indefinitely. The rooms appeared and smelled as though they hadn't been cleaned or updated in years. The tub had mold and soap scum, the carpet was sticky, the walls were very dirty, there was peeling paint and tiny holes in the ceiling, the headboards had handprints and residue on them, the furniture was coming apart, the AC was filthy, noisy, and didn't work right, and the toilet seat had a cigarette burn. The bathroom ventilation was filthy, clogged, and non-functional. The indoor pool was cloudy, the kiddie pool full of debris, the hot tub wasn't hot, there was no ventilation so it was unbearably hot, the area was poorly lit, all of the sliding glass doors were terribly broken and non-functional, and the handicap-accessible pool chair was completely broken. Several children ended up with bloody toes after walking barefoot on the rough deck area. The laundry facility was alarmingly filthy and stifling hot. The vending machine had many overpriced and expired items. Worst of all, the owners made a fraudulent charge on our card about a month after our stay, without authorization, out of the blue and without attempting to contact us, leaving us with no idea why we had been charged about 650 dollars on top of the cost of our stay, AFTER being displaced due to a HOUSE FIRE! After some research, making some inquiries, and reading every review I could find, it seems that this has happened many times before. Many former guests have complained that they also incurred sudden charges well after their stay, without authorization, and for substantial amounts of money. It seems that the majority of instances were attempts to collect for pre-existing damages, of which this hotel has plenty. This institution has also had a well-documented, chronic issue with bedbugs and other pests. One of the proprietors is also aggressive, argumentative, and flagrantly unprofessional when addressing (valid) concerns from guests. PLEASE be advised that this hotel is poorly maintained, potentially hazardous, well known for committing fraud, and not worth doing business with. The room appeared clean, but the hotel is obviously old and is in need of renovation. The hallways smelled stale, the pool water appeared to have a film over it and the wifi signal is lost when you enter your room. When we left , it was raining and the roof at the entrance was leaking. When we approached the front desk about the wifi, we were told that it was working for them. read more

The manager LIED to our faces! Our first rooms had an overwhelming sent of PAINT because they were painting, to top it off they hadn't even bothered to clean the rooms. There was trash on the floor and made beds when we walked in. You know.. they didn't even bother to prepare the paint scented rooms. When we switched rooms they were messy, a little bit of "junk" on the floor, clearly hadn't been vacuumed... oh and PUBIC HAIRS in the beds. YUCK. When we asked for a refund the manager charged us but promised to investigate and call us... two weeks later and we haven't heard from her despite calling a couple times. INCREDIBLY UNETHICAL AND DIRTY HOTEL. My brother and his wife live in Radford so I've been there a few times. Stay at the Quality Inn across the road.. they aren't "nice" but they won't lie to you and leave their pets in your room, and pubic hairs and all the other things they did to us. Just stayed here a second time against my better judgement. First time, a few years ago, I didn't like it but couldn't remember why. Bottom line -- this hotel is the pits. Stay away!! And this is not a criticism of the staff it's a criticism of the OWNER and the owner's miserable greed and mismanagement. The hotel is horribly noisy at night. The walls and doors are paper thin. We had the bad luck of being surrounded by multiple large groups of guests who acted like drunk banshees who had just been let out of their cages. This went on until 2:30 am on a Friday night/Sat morning ..possibly longer. I don't know as the hotel front desk clerk finally relented and let me move to another room on the 1st floor which was somewhat quieter. The hotel is in disrepair despite a recent facelift. The refrigerators in the rooms (I was in two rooms and both had the same problem) cycle on and off with a motor that is louder than most cars. So good luck sleeping through that. The business center was "out of order" (the whole center, not just one computer). The seats in the eating area are booth-style seats that are not bolted to the floor for some odd reason, so you rock back and forth while eating as if on a see-saw. I could go on. Seriously, even at $85 night you will feel like you were ripped off. The lobby is pretty with its field stone fireplace. The outside looks nice. Those are the only positive things I can say. Note to management -- re: your front desk clerk's comment that there is "nothing they can do" about loud guests -- here's an idea: State a quiet time policy of 11:00 pm - 8:00 am to guests when they check in. Make them agree to it in writing. Remind guests of the policy with signage in the elevator. Have the policy state that you're allowed one noise complaint from other guests. At 2+ complaints, the noisy offender's room rate is increased by 50% and goes up 10% with each additional complaint. Problem solved. Charge people extra for excess noise just like you would charge them if they checked out six hours after checkout time or smashed the TV. read more

I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about? We booked on hotels.com and it got good reviews on there and like Yelp, they can not be influenced. The price is decent if not a good deal compared to some hotels I have stayed at. They seem to be doing major reconstruction to parts of the hotel, which made my slightly outdated room understandable. The bed was comfy, the room was clean, the staff was friendly, the pool was nice, and the wifi was decently fast. The one thing I'm not pleased with? Breakfast ends at 9! Unfriendly and untrained staff! Interesting(for lack of a better word) smell in the lobby. I travel to this area quite a bit and have found another place across the street that is clean and friendly. Would not recommend in any setting. read more
