    Banh khot
    Denise L.

I'm not in this area often and had to get my hands on some banh khot. I got it to go, and they do charge a little more for to go. I appreciated all the fresh veggies they give for 7 pieces of banh khot. However, possibly because it sat in the car for 15 minutes but they weren't super crispy and not the best banh khot I've had but pretty tasty.

Hands down best banh khot I've ever had in my life. It came with so much delicious leafy greens / assorted herbs. It was perfection. I WILL be back.

I used to like their grilled pork rolled rice cake so much until i ordered one this morning, and there was a hair in my food. Furthermore, the service was so disorganized. I'll never come back

    Bun rieu

I heard good things about this place, so I asked someone to pick up a portion of bun rieu for me. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The soup portion was quite small, and the toppings were not very diverse. Because of this experience, I don't feel motivated to visit the restaurant in person. I hope the quality can be improved.

first time trying banh khot! took about 15m wait time for the food, appreciated that they took apple pay. came with a generous portion of greens as well. liked the crispy exterior of the banh kho, very fun appetizer to try.

One of the few places in town that make banh khot well. Unfortunately, it is overpriced, but it is good quality! Crispy exterior and the perfect amount of batter-to-shrimp ratio. They have many other Central Vietnamese dishes, but I only come here for the banh khot. If only it was more affordable, I would come here more often. FYI - 7 pieces of Banh Khot is $16.50 ***They accept Apple Pay :)

Not many places in San Jose offer banh knot, but Quan Hue is one of the couple of places that does! Located in a food court, you'll have to navigate through a corridor of shops and then a courtyard from the parking lot in order to reach Quan Hue in the back of this Vietnamese shopping plaza. The Banh Khot (also called Vietnamese Moon Cakes on their menu) consist of nine pieces and served with greens, mint, and a dipping sauce. These seemed to also be filled with a mung bean filling inside and topped with a shrimp. We also got some Shrimp and Pork Spring Rolls that came three to an order and were served with a peanut dipping sauce with sriracha on top. These were pretty sizable, and I really liked the peanut sauce! They ran out of Banh Beo, so we decided to get something else that was somewhat similar. Their Banh Uot Tom Chay are rice rolls with ground shrimp on top. They come with a side of bean sprouts and fish cake, as well as a dipping sauce.

I was craving banh kot so badly since I had it in LA. This place had high ratings, so my husband and I ventured out to this food court area in East San Jose. The food court was absolutely bustling which was a great sign the food was legit. It's quite packed inside and the bathrooms were out of order. My husband found a table outside which was a little chill. My hubby ordered Bun Bo hue and I went for my banh kot. My husband's soup came out in 5 minutes looked tasty with all the trimmings. Mine was a 20 minute wait as they were making it fresh. When it finally arrived, I was famished and it was piping hot. It looked so tasty and came with tons of greens to wrap up my little banh kot pieces. There was an abundance of mint, romaine, cilantro, ram rao, and some other leaves that were tasty. I also had fish sauce which I requested no chili. When I put it all together, the flavors exploded in my mouth. Everything was so fresh and these were just as good as the ones I had in LA. I wish I knew how to make these at home! Overall an easy 5 stars! I'll be back!

Banh uot thit nuong or BBQ pork wrapped with rice cake and the dipping sauce (to go order)

A stall or spot located in the food court area of Lion Plaza. This place feels family owned and operated and has been here for years. The folks here are friendly. They specialize in Vietnamese food from the Hue area or central Vietnam. I haven't really tried a lot of their dishes, because the first time I got the food here is when my brother brought me here to pick up some of their banh uot thit nuong or BBQ pork wrapped with rice cake before heading to a UFC event in the San Jose arena years ago. My parents and I were having a Vietnamese food day and this is one of the places I insisted on stopping by because I wanted it their rolls. I'm sure the rest of the food is delicious if it's anywhere near the quality of the BBQ pork rolls that we had. I hope to try more items on the menu in a future visit. On this visit, though, we had to reserve some stomach space lol. Such a nice gem located in a crowded Vietnamese food area.

Found this gem by accident. Bo Ne was so busy that a lot of customers who don't want to wait 40-50 mins for the order (me included) have to venture around and check out other options. This little place caught my attention because of its bahn beo on the picture menu. I had it one time in Vietnam for breakfast on the street and it was soft and delicious! Let's backup a bit. We were planning to try the Bo Ne, which is inside the same food court and take note, this is not the Lion Market food court as i originally thought. Park on the Lion Market supermarket parking lot, then as you walk towards Lion, you'll see an alley (could be blocked by the merchandise the vendors set out), walk pass the alley and you'll enter another court yard with more shops. Look for a door and enter as it's the food court. This place is inside the food court! The whole ambiance is as authentic as going to Vietnam. Don't expect clean utensils or sanitized ways of food handling. As I was waiting for my food, I saw the lady cooking in the kitchen dumped the food from a plate to a take out container, then without gloves touched the food item by item to rearrange the plating, then took it out to the front counter, and slid the fingers across the door frame as she walked back to the kitchen. There was a clear black patched area on the door frame that marked probably the daily touchy wear and tear. They give a cup of hot tea with the order and there's no free water in the food court. Now back to food. Bahn Khot is also good. It looks like deep fried and I was worried it would be too hard and dry, but no, the circular shape bite size tart was soft in the inside with a taste of coconut milk. It's delicious. The salad is universally the same across all dishes which has a few kinds of herbs and a few pieces of lettuce. Those herbs are not my liking but do look authentic. The bahn beo which is steamed rice cake with sprinkled shrimp on top is very soft and flavorful. Very lovely to finally eat it here again. It seems their other popular item is #9, BBQ pork in rice roll. I see people order a whole party tray of it. By 1pm, when customers wanted to order it as a lunch item it was all sold out. Next time I will want to try this, which looks like a spring roll but thinner with BBQ pork and lettuce inside. They take credit card and if you pay cash they give you a small 3.8% discount. But they even take American Express credit card. So all is great! Happy we found this dingy place!

banh xeo, cold beef salad, and Banh uot

Anther go to for Vietnamese food craving spot & the lion plaza. There's not a lot of places we've found that sell banh uot thit nuong, so we always return. We also love the banh xeo! Since nothing is premade it takes a little bit for things to be cooked and for her to ring the bell to let you know it's ready. Service is sharp and straight to the point because there might be a language barrier, so just point or say the number you want. Credit is accepted, but cash is cheaper and they charge for to-go containers as an FYI. Prices over the years have definitely gone up, but the quality seems to remain the same. They sell a variety of other staple Vietnamese dishes and sometimes have things off the menu (leftover for sale from catering orders).

Finally had a chance to try this place after having it bookmarked for years! All I have to say is WOW and I'm addicted. The thit nuong rolls were absolutely delicious and you can tell they were made fresh. The perfect amount of rice wrap to filling ratios. And my personal favorite was the banh khot. Omg I'm still drooling over these perfect little "pancakes". This place is a must try if you're in the area.

The banh khot here is pretty good! It's a bit pricey, but I think it's one of the better banh khots around here. The outside is crispy and the inside has a soft texture-- reminds me of the ones I had growing up. They also do catering here, FYI. They have other items on their catering menu that isn't on their normal menu.

Despite it being in a big lot, parking still took a while to find. Thankfully, we had thankfully just beat the lunch rush and not had to wait longer than 10 minutes for a table. My friend and I shared a Northern spread (Bun Cha Ha Noi) and a Southern style Goat Curry (Banh Mi Cari De). Service was definitely on the slower side that day, but thankfully we were proactive at getting the orders in. The Bun Cha Ha Noi was delicious - pretty much a DIY spring roll - all the fun, all the mess, with none of the clean up other than licking the plates clean. The pork belly was delicious; I was surprised how much I liked it, since I'm not a fan of pork. I devoured numerous rolls, and we also had some extra vermicelli to finish off the rest of the protein. This single meal was definitely more than enough for two! The Banh Mi Cari De (goat curry) was unfortunately quite the opposite. The goat was cooked very well - tough, gamy, and difficult to eat. There were probably six pieces in total, our first was tender, our second had bone, a little harder to chew, and the last was best compared to rubber. The curry was a bit watery, which made the banh mi soggy when dipped in. This was probably an adventurous try, but not a dish I'd ever consider ordering again.

It's a grilled tumeric fish dish that packs a ton of flavor, and you add noodles and herbs to make a delish spring roll (or in my case a fat burrito). It comes out on a sizzling plate so you have to let it cook a bit to render the onions and dill to get that perfect texture. Tip: on Wednesdays, this dish is only $28, whereas the OG price is around $36. The fried rice here was surprisingly super flavorful! If you can't find parking in that plaza, there's more parking across the road where the Target is. After spending about ten minutes on the written wait-list, our names were called. It's definitely a little easier communicating with much of the staff if you speak Vietnamese, and I find that waiting right outside the restaurant is best because they default to calling your name from the door once it's your turn. The interior is crammed with tables; the atmosphere feels busy and warm. There is a single room women's bathroom and men's bathroom in the back as well. The decor leans toward being classic more than trendy, which I liked. The menu is pretty big, offering a variety of items ranging from mainstream Vietnamese options to ones I don't encounter as often. I recommend eating family-style for many of these dishes, including the Bún Chả Cá Lã Vọng, which I enjoyed with my partner. The prices are pretty average, and their portions are generous. That said, they are cash or Zelle only. There is an ATM that you can use if you forget to bring cash, but this is still something to keep in mind. Overall, I can definitely see myself coming back. I wish I had the stomach capacity to try more of their dishes at once, and I 100% recommend that anyone give this place a shot.

I noticed cobwebs that appeared to have been hanging in place for a long time, along with dirt and grime collecting in corners throughout the dining room. Even the menus felt sticky, with a visible film of grease and small food particles still clinging to them. The faded print and worn condition made them look as though they hadn't been replaced in years. Those details created an impression of neglect that made it difficult to relax and enjoy the meal.
