My brother got a bacon omelette which he was not particularly impressed with and said he could make the same quality at home. I got the hangover brekkie which consisted of a pile of potato wedges smothered in cheese, a fried egg, 2 slices of bacon, a sausage, and herb cream cheese. This.... was so incredibly heavy - I love potatoes but couldn't only eat half of it. Part of it is because the chef puts the entire plate into like the microwave/oven once everything is plated so the cheese hardens too quickly and the potato wedges were mouth burning hot the entire meal. Even 15 min in, I was burning my mouth on them. The sausage also had an unusual texture and taste to it, I guess I'm used to American sausages but it just did not fit my palette. Also cream cheese is a strange pairing with this dish, something like ranch would have been better. The only redeeming quality was the bacon was perfectly crisp. The cappuccino Dihei was just the boost of caffeine I needed but when I read orange zest as part of the ingredients, I was expecting like finely grated orange, not a thick slice of orange peel hanging off of the cup.

The outside seating was just about full, there were folk and bikes dotting the bit of blocked-off roadway running in front of the place and people sitting on the edge of the fountain with drinks in hand. The whole scene was very relaxed and inviting. Given the warm weather, I was in the mood for a brewski and chose a tasty German lager in bottle. C du B, of course, also offers solid Swiss beers on tap, among other libations. Our next visit was this morning and we were in the mood for coffee and a nibble. Brunch is offered between the hours of ten and two, I believe, but we decided to go somewhat light and chose both a croissant and choco-croissant to share. The espresso drinks (we drank a couple of capps followed by a cafe au lait) were excellent and made with care. The baked goods were top-notch and washed down well with our lovely cafe au lait (in a bowl, naturalmente). Beyond brunch, an a la carte dinner menu is offered in the evenings and I look forward to returning soon to C du B to sample their fare!

It's not that the staff are downright unfriendly but they just behave as if they couldn't care less about the service they provide. Smile, don't smile, who cares? It does not make you wanna go back. At all. The beer is beer and the soy cappuccino is nothing special at all unfortunately. Haven't dared to try the food, lest the kitchen staff are as passionate about their job as their colleagues. Yasmine was an incredible host and took much time to explain to us the unique teas and courses of our meal. We also learned a lot about the cafe and owner and how the dishes were created and inspired. The food options were incredible. I loved the savory and the biscuits especially. The desserts were unique and fun. Each tier of food was paired with its own tea that was selected specifically for us and our meal by our host. We loved the tea made with tree bark, the light matcha stem tea, and the three fused black teas. Such an incredible experience and they take so much care! They are especially accommodating for celiacs and allergies.

It's located just across the famous Abbey and is a good choice to grab some coffee or food. Especially now in winter when you need a warm place. The restaurant has two levels, downstairs a bit less formal, more like a coffee shop. And also a bakery. The menu has some interesting items and also a daily menu. It was pretty cold the day we visited and were happy to get a nice table right in front (a couch!). Great to watch the world go by. Service was friendly and helpful. Food-wise it was solid. Nothing outstanding, but not bad at all. We ordered a "Gersten"-soup (with sausage) and the roast with mash and veggies. Soup was hot and pretty filling. Roast was fine, mash pretty good. But the veggies pretty boring and bland. The bakery had some interesting items. Good stuff to take out and enjoy later at home. So, food-wise an average place. But with the lovely interior and nice seats / couches / tables it deserves the four stars.
