Its quite a small shop, but seeing as they don't actually have stock to sell thats not a problem. The staff in there are always friendly, there seems to be a family feel to it. I went in last year and they were very helpful, helped me with every aspect of my journey so that I could save the most money, booking trains seperately rather than all in one go turned out cheaper! Because they are a local, one off business, you don't get the impression they're in it for the money as much. Obviously they have to make a profit otherwise it wouldn't work but they don't have targets for sales etc like major companies. They can usually find you a good deal as long as there is one available. Would recommend to anyone.

An excellent Tourist Information Centre…read more Pickering is not the biggest of places, but the Tourist Information Centre is surprisingly large -- there's a goodly-sized main room and another room off it. It seems a very modern building and is certainly pleasant to use. As you might expect it's packed full of leaflets, booklets and so on to help the visitor to the area. The information available isn't just restricted to Pickering as they've got stuff for York, Leeds, Harrogate and so on. There's also a shop with a small range of postcards and other stuff. The staff are very helpful and certainly in the holiday season it's open long hours, including on a Sunday. All in all, an excellent resource for the visitor to the area.

The special thing about this office was that the member of staff who dealt with me was friendly, consise and clear in her information and seemed to hold a great deal of it in her head. her recommendations and suggestions were accurate. I hadn't a clue what this would involve but they were able to tell me everything - what jabs I would need, when and how to get a visa and what a Lonely Planet book was. Yes, I was that clueless. Previous and since I have popped in with the idea that I wanted to so some kind of inter-railing thing and they have been more than happy to give me information about student-priced options. I went so far as to ask about getting a boat to Holland. The staff were happy to chat to me about their own well-travelled experiences. I recently popped in to ask about insurance for a 3-6 month trip to Asia and their options, unfortunately, were an absolute rip-off. So my revised view of STA travel is that they are good for somethings but are also cashing in on those naive yet wealthy gap-year types.

I wanted a travel agent that specialised in student holidays, as being young and naïve I didn't really have a clue as to where I wanted to go or what I wanted to do when I got there. One day after a particularly hectic day studying, I popped into this branch for a bit of inspiration and motivation to get a holiday booked. The really friendly assistant chatted with me for ages about what sort of thing I wanted to get out of it, what sort of budget I had, how long I wanted to go for and what type of person I was. They then gave me loads of suggestions, good and bad points about each suggestion and a realistic estimate of what I could expect to pay. I left with a clear idea of where I wanted to go and went back in after a couple of days and booked my trip. They were great in that they talked me through everything I would need to do before I left, if I needed a visa or any injections and gave me tips on what to do once I got there.

Why, as a sighted person, go on holiday with blind people...? Believe me I was asked the same question repeatedly when I decided to go on my first trip but now I can't wait to save up and go again. First off you get to go at a reduced rate which is always a bonus but mainly it is an amazing experience sharing your sight with someone who has lost or is losing theirs. I can remember my trip so much more clearly because i spent time looking at the interesting things to describe it to my partner of the day. On the other hand some people didn't want or need that much description so I remember encouraging them to do things they wouldn't necessarily do normally. I went to Andalucia with travel eyes and loved it. I got to meet lots of new genuinely nice people and have already received emails from some to stay in touch. We ate good food, I practiced my Spanish translating the menu; visited places, for free jumping queues; wondered around soaking up the atmosphere and of course did plenty of excursions and activities. I would recommend this company to anyone who likes to chat and meet new people... in fact I would recommend this to anyone shy to encourage them to get out of their comfort zone in a safe environment. LOVE IT and CANT WAIT for my next trip :)

Traveleyes are a great concept and I had 3 holidays with them. The first 2 holidays were brilliant…read morebut, logistically, things went wrong with the third. The company was at fault in booking a questionable contractor for our transport, then not being able to sort it out on the ground, and finally adopting a hostile attitude towards those of us who complained on return because of the impact on our enjoyment. Sometimes things do go wrong on holidays. However this company needs to learn basic PR and how to deal graciously with complaints. They have a monopoly on the market for visually impaired holidaymakers, and in my view are complacent as a result.

You are always going to be happy when you are booking an epic adventure…read more What this place does that is impressive is remember you even 4 years later when you have saved up enough to go away again and have specialists that know the countries well enough to give you local advice. Really prompt at answering emails and anyone will help you even if you booked with someone else.
